Thread: Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5 for $449 (Update: Pre-orders begin April 24 in the U.S. and Canada)
Physical games bought today become a retro library in a decade. It's fine that people have the option to go digital but all these "key cards" means I'll be buying mostly first party and not much third party on SW2.

Increasingly, the problem is that there's less difference between the physical game-on-disk and the key-card because v1.0 is often buggy and incomplete when all said and done. You would need a later written disk to have anything representing the actual full release.

Now if they want to start releasing carts that can be updated as patches and dlc come along, that would be spectacular!

Maybe it's because my house isn't the biggest and we have 3 kids, but I feel a lot more secure with digital purchases being on my system rather than filling a bookshelf. I like the idea of having everything on the system if I ever get an itch to play rather than dig up a box. If my system ever breaks or a company decides to shut down servers or whatever, I'll just pirate it. There is no place for physical games for me, literally and figuratively.

I'm kind of in that mindset as well. I would much rather have a downloaded collection of all my favorite games from all the past consoles and on PC than to have a bunch of carts, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. As a matter of fact, I've still got discs that I burned from 20 years ago that I'm quite certain will not read anymore. Even if they will or did, I no longer even keep a powered drive going for them.

So what now? Flash cards and drives? Why even bother??

People worrying over physical media nowadays should probably worry more over game design that relies on internet connections and continuously phoning home.

I care about OG hardware, but not the software. Flashcarts and mods do the job and save space.

Did I also hear that Walmart has continued to have preorders off and on as recently as yesterday?
Seems like they are cancelling bulk orders from scalpers so it's going in and out of stock. But it seems to be random on territory.

GameStop will open preorders! After they cancel double and bot orders!

Or, you know, they could've just launched it differently. It's not like they weren't aware of all the scalper bullshit from the PS5 launch, nor is it really any surprise that the S2 is a bigger launch and more sought after. GameStop is just retarded. They should've just said, "Motherfuckers if you want one come get your ASS IN A LINE." This isn't Covid anymore, there's no reason to have a mostly online preorder launch when you know damn well in advance it's going to be abused.

Walmart still taking orders in some areas! I finally got mine in! Woot!! 😊

Appears mine is grocery bag. Looks like shipping from store nearby!

My order has neither icon, just a box.

I don't think mine is coming before 9am as promised. There aren't Walmarts in LA for some reason, so the nearest one is about 15 miles away and would have to service about 4 million people from one store, literally thousands of switches I'd imagine.

Both of my orders are grocery bags :D hopefully that means it will arrive in the morning rather than evening

Just confirmed that mine isn't being delivered by Walmart. So it's not going to be by 9am, but that's fine because I'm going to be working anyway and that would be a distraction. End of day is the less fun but probably better solution for me.

The grocery bag icon is usually reserved for, from local store deliveries!

It's a good sign you'll get it launch day!

This is gonna vary greatly based on what games you play, but I find it to be an overblown issue. I have a fairly large physical Switch library and every game I own that doesn't have every patch/update plays fine without them. Case in point, Super Mario Bros. Wonder got a completely useless update after its original release that does little other than add some names to the credits and "supposedly" makes some gameplay improvements. I say "supposedly" because those dipshits can't actually tell you what those gameplay improvements are. Oooooh, soooo seeeeecret. We can't teeeeeell you:rolleyes:

Also, an increasing number of games do come out with all updates now. I have quite a few of those as well. Nintendo does tend to re-release their first party stuff as well (as do a few other companies). So inevitably, there WILL be a physical version of any particular first party game that is complete on cart. The problem is being able to identify them. You would need to buy second hand off someplace like ebay and ask the seller to take clear pictures of the numbers on the back of the cartridge.

Also, DLC in most games is generally pointless crap so I don't even mind if I have a physical release of a game that is missing DLC. I appreciate that The Messenger recently got a physical re-release that includes the DLC, but to me that release is more significant for making a physical copy of the game more widely available than it is for the DLC as the game was already a pretty complete experience even without the DLC.

Physical is still much better than digital...unless you sail the seas and don't need something on your shelf to look at. Then digital is just as viable as physical. Ironically you have to go through shady means to actually own your digital stuff rather than just buying it legit. Our world is so fucked up.

I like making back ups of my physical games, so I've got both a physical AND a digital collection that I OWN. It feels good.

The whole v1.0 version of a physical game often being buggy and incomplete seems to be more of a symptom of AAA games. As someone who mostly buys retro, indie, and Japanese stuff it hasn't been an issue for me.

Is there any new stuff on this thing except Bananza, Metroid4 and MKworld?

Seems like everybody and their mothers are dumping their old crap on this to have an easy payday.

Some 3rd party stuff like Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion, but thats also on Xbox and PS, virtual console GC? To be honest it's pretty much on par with most next gen launches post xbox360

Can't forget the welcome tour. :p
And the DragxDrive thing.

There was also a new Hyrule Warriors. Also Kirby Air Riders and Duskbloods, but that's further in the 'upcoming' category.

Can't wait to start up a file on TWW and Super Mario Sunshine when SMS makes its way to NSO. I have unfinished business with Super Mario Sunshine, I think the Piantas were plotting against me
