Thread: Nintendo Direct June 18th @ 7am PT (40 mins)
Gonna be honest, loved it till i got to the part where the colored parasites started fucking everything up and the game became a eace against them. Like hell naw I'm too old and distracted for all this rush. 🤣

For being a Metroidvania, it was quite linear, like Fusion, which automatically knocks it down 1 point for me. A Metroid game should be the class leader in the genre it is named after for exploration, backtracking and sequence breaking. Too many indie devs have ran with that formula and showed Nintendo up.

Which is sad.

Nintendo honestly believes Metroid is about maternal instincts at this point. Not surprised they can't match the competition in the genre they helped create.

Nintendo has never been about Metroid. Japan doesn't care about the IP, it is a Western-beloved franchise and they add it on, irregularly during hardware releases, to keep people like me putting money in their pocket when it drops. I then buy Pikmin games or maybe a Mario/Zelda depending on my mood when I do.

I'm the least fan of Nintendo on the planet, or in that group, which will still buy any Metroid they release. And I will point out when they fuck it up. Which they tend to do. The last great Metroid game Nintendo developed was Zero Mission, imho opinion. They have farmed out the rest of the IP to others like Team Ninja or Retro, or MercurySteam. Sometimes it is awesome, like Retro, sometimes it misses the mark like the other two.

Such is the way of Metroid's history. See here for more: https://metroiddatabase.com/

Got around to watching it.

Overall it was great. Way more I want here than have time to play, and god damn do I want that Zelda Switch Lite.

The new Mario and Luigi Brothership game comes out on my birthday, so I'll probably be getting that from the missus, and I'll see about a few others on sale, but overall that was an easy 9/10 for me. Vastly better than what Playstation and Xbox managed, and just embarrassed the other 'E3' presentations.

Switch is going to walk that 160m sold to be the best selling console of all time, and it's going to have thoroughly earnt it.

Man, awsome Direct.

Hyped for DQ and Mario and Luigi. And Fantasian with a bigger screen. And Romancing Saga 2. And Metroid, kinda simple underwhelming show up but cool. And Mario Party, gonna be fun with the nephews. And Capcom collection, please fucking work tight on Switch! And... hell, all that was cool!

What a banger!

I forgot about Fantasian... twice! And the Marvel collection with the MvC2 training mode!?

Not sure if I'm in the minority here but I loved Dread... I got like 60 hours on it; just kept on playing through Hard and then to 100%. It definitely favored speed over exploration, but once it clicked I really appreciated that in this world of Metroidvanias every week.

Yeah Samus has that, but she also tends to leave obliterated space pirate forces/evil entities/shattered planets in her wake (mostly by accident I think). Likely only out done by Kirby and the various incarnations of Link over thousands of years.

She has some of the absolute worst personal misfortune I've ever seen, possibly only exceeded by people unfortunate enough to live in the absolute nightmares that are Alien, Dead Space, Silent Hill, Berserk, any Dark Soul or Soul like and 40K/Warhammer Fantasy. Knights of Sidonia, that may be the worst one in a lot of ways actually.

Kinda bummed they didn't announce Super Non-Binario

DON'T GIVE THEM IDEAS!!

Link might have an epic off-screen showdown versus Ganon or maybe he's just been trapped or frozen, immobilized and kept hostage by Ganon? This is the first adventure where Zelda or maybe that's a relative of Link's [?] is the protagonist
