Thread: New Squid Game 2 Teaser
Are you happy it is a direct continuation of the story from the original? Or would you have preferred an altogether different story?

I would have liked a new story myself. That could still progress the understanding of the games and continue the story in some ways without continuing Seong gi-huns story.

I think the main issue is lack of character development before the games begin.
Whole time was wasted on Gi hun and traffic cop, who become less and less likable.

There is no character except may be the pregnant girl whom you feel shouldn't die next. In the 1st season, you would be either worrying about a character to die or find them too obnoxious and want them to be eliminated.

Worse thing, every side character feels cheaper version of someone we had in 1st season.

In the first season tension was palpable, people voted to end the game exited but still came back seeing life outside isn't any better. This felt real.
Now they get to vote after every round, people around them are dropping like flies and yet side wants the games to go on gets more support.

It felt like not just gi hun, but every guy has seen the season 1 so they want to go on.

Yep. I agree with everything you shared there. This season isn't hitting like the first, and perhaps that is to be expected. But there are definite elements to the story that could have been handled with some more care and attention.

I think I would have liked the story getting rebooted with someone like.....mother-son duo, finding their way in to the game
and then gi hun and traffic cop part to get back to the island could've been rushed.

The female guard who is slightly going rogue could've been another interesting character.
But that part is also not sufficiently developed.

Howver, I see Netflix having a greater say in things this time, which has resulted in a transgender (ex-soldier) coming into the game.
The hardships they mention seem overstated and not serious cuz they definitely didn't live through the experience.
South Korea while conservative has somehwat liberal laws for TGs compared to many countries, so I felt it a lot made up.

This is ultra-cheap version of Ali, brown guy who was an immigrant worker in S1.
Ali even with the so less screen-time made sure he is likable. We wanted him to live, he had a purpose to play the game which felt real.
And when he was cheated in the game of marbles....it was heartbreaking but helped to evolve character of gin-hu's friend.

People probably aren't watching Squid Games because of the point they are watching it because it's entertaining

Find it so difficult to agree with critics these days.

Watched Season 2 and was a bit disappointed, feels like it's not a complete season as it's also shorter than S1 in term of # of episodes. Really just left me disappointed with how it finishes.

The trans inclusion just feels like weird forced wokeness for no reason in a show that really didn't need any virtue signaling. Not to say it was the key factor in my disappoint but I think the unnecessary inclusion of that persons gender as part of the overall story is at a complete detriment to the immersion of the show.

I'm glad they didn't do the cliche trope of

Front Man does a face turn and helps Gi Hun and his brother take on the VIPs....or it turns out he was good all along

But there's still time....they'll probably do it in s3.

After seeing S2, I cannot help but give a shout out to Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul writers, it's very difficult to improve the perfection..they did.

I wish they never made season 2 or they had used all new characters. Season was very disappointing

I really hated the way they left S2 a incomplete season......starting to wonder based on several other Netflix projects.....lots of S1 shows are complete smash hits but the time/production it takes to do a full fledged season takes so much time for a complete S2.

Arcane, Cobra Kai, and Squid Games come to mind as shows they're releasing segments of versus taking the time for full seasons.

Wondering if this is a direct reaction to what happened with Stranger Things

Made me laff when he says. "I was SF."

Of course you were.
