Every day we are here on this earth, we go in one of two directions. We are either getting better or getting worse.

As I get older, it becomes more evident that we have a finite time to achieve our goals. One more thing that made me realize it was this summer, I participated in a corporate challenge for my job where many companies across the city compete in sporting events. Not having any intention of competing in the mile run event, I signed up as an alternate for my age group since there were only two other guys that signed up. No problem, the other guys agreed to compete since they had better times than me.

Just so happens that I find out on the day of the event that one of the guys can't make it, so I have to fill in. Well, I actually raced not only with my age group but with the one group up to ten years older than me. I came in second...from last. And I had to really push myself to not let that last place guy beat me. My mile time was 9:43 seconds.

This was a bit of a wake up call to me that I really want to improve myself. Seeing guys there in there 60's and 70's running miles in less than 6 minutes was inspiring and motivating. And I am always trying to better myself. Not only with my health, but with faith, raising my kids, becoming financially free, and with my job. Sometime succeeding and sometimes struggling. But never giving up.

So as I go on this journey, I want to post things that I have found motivating. Things that have picked me up and inspired me. And I ask that you do the same. I always tell me kids to hang out with people who are smarter than you, that way you can learn new things and good habits. With this thread I want to both learn and help.

So not only post motivational content, but put some of your goals out there. Let's help each other grow and learn together.

My short term goals for this year:

  • 8:00 mile run (current best is 9:43 and I felt like my lungs were going to explode)
  • 10 chin ups in a row (currently at 4)
  • Get mortgage debt down to under 300k (currently at $332,142)
Some current videos I like to go back to every once in a while:

How tf do you cope?

Let's do this!

I'm going to embrace the dilapidated - once magnificent, temple that is my body and stop saying I will get back to fighting form.

My best years are behind me, my future years involve sliding toward the grave at an unknown time, for an unknown cause.

I don't have time to live in a life of wondering what an idealised version of current year best-me could be, and instead sit on my arse in my garden and drink tea.

Thx, exactly what I needed.

I haven't updated my weight loss progression because I fell off it again. To be precise, I had something super weird happening: Three days in a row I felt like I was eating really not a lot, I felt like I was starving myself ... and yet these three days in a row, the scale would show me heavier than the day before. :/ Super frustrating.

I've now decided to watch even closer my portion size and maybe, if this thread is the right one for it, I will start making photos of everything I eat and post it here, so you guys can give me feeedback on whether it was too much or alright :>

Anyway, motivation, yay .... >_>

It's water weight dude, dont sweat it.... or do sweat it literally ;)

Don't starve yourself, just eat real food, you have to think of sustainability in the long haul

cheers

a job will help with motivation I promise.

Good work on the wake up call. Lotta people are still sleeping and wondering why their life isn't moving in a good direction. I tell myself all the time that I am the pilot, my body is the mecha. You have to disassociate yourself from the process of self-improvement, viewing yourself as a "specimen" to experiment on, seeking after the results while ignoring the emotional/physical hardship to get there.

That feeling of Motivation is nice but it's more like an occasional bonus-round when you are already living a disciplined life.

Get disciplined, and motivation stops mattering.
