Thread: MMA - Mixed Martial Arts |OT| Don't be scared homie.

Just checked the betting odds and it looks like DDP is the favorite at about -215 and and Strickland at +175. To me this seems right to me...though I would personally bet Strickland (If I gambled on fights).

Strickland is such a specific fighter, with his unique style he's a wild cat. But I think this match up isn't too great for him.

IDK, I only watched their last fight live, so I could be misremembering, but it seemed like neither really ever had the other in trouble. Here are the stats:

As soon as DDP broke Strickland's nose it was over. It stayed competitive, but Sean was clearly protecting.

The kinda awkward style of DDP vs the predictable steady style of Sean is what made the difference imo

Weak UFC tomorrow. But will probably watch the main event to see if Cejudo still has anything left in the gas tank. He SHOULD steam roll Song, who is 3-2 in his last 5 and has zero wins over any top contenders. But he is >10 years younger, 4" Taller and has a 3" reach advantage.

If Cejudo does not win this convincingly, I think he needs to re-retire.

His loss to Merab has aged very well but like you say, if he doesn't get past Song, it's time for introspection.

Even with low expectations, last night was a let down. Sucks that Cejudo got poked in the eye. He was sort of getting a groove going. But Song was getting the better of most exchanges due to the height/reach.

Not sure what Cejudo let the fight continue and lose on pts when he could have just not continued and it be a NC. Seems like a lapse in judgment to think his vision would improve given 90 more seconds.

Henry should probably retire. Yea he might have won last night. But he should have ran right through him. At best he can be a gate keeper to the top 10. That doesn't pay well enough to justify the damage he will endure.

Last fights conclusion was a bummer. Sigh.

Alex Morono (171) vs. Carlos Leal Miranda (169)

6:30 p.m. ET Early Prelims begin on Fight Pass and ESPN+ before moving to
Mairon Santos (145.5) vs. Francis Marshall (146)
Chris Gutierrez (144.5) vs. John Castaneda (145)
Djorden Santos (185.5) vs. Osman Diaz (185.5)

Prelims:
First fight (Diaz vs Santos) was a barn burner. They fucking THREW! I was tired just watching it.

Second fight was a straight robbery. Santos got beat, clear as day. I smell corruption with teh TUF prospect getting the 'gift' like that.

Fight 3: Leal beat the breaks off Morono!

Fight 4: Good win for Ferreira, but he needs to learn how to get inside on bigger fighters. He was getting picked apart on the outside most of the fight.

Fight 5: Tsuruya had nothing but wrestling for Van....and Van stuffed 99% of it and made him pay for it.

PPV:
Fight 1: Ruffy sent Green to the Shadow Realm out of NOWHERE with that swift wheel kick!

Fight 2:....lame

Fight 3: Short, meh. Turner got caught in a nice triangle. Good win for Bahamondes, but not gonna gain any fans from it.

Fight 5: Money. Justin and Fiziev both looked great. Especially since Fiziev was a late swap and not in camp. Justin needed that win to prove he still had it.

Main Event: Was a meh fight. Poatan looked hesitant and Ankaleav had moments, but mostly a boring fight....cuz Ankalaev. Lots of Leanding against the cage. He is going to be BORING champion. Notice there are NO HIGHLIGHTS from this fight.

Prelims for UFC Fight Night 225 are starting (RIGHT NOW!!!). Its an 'early' card since its in London.

Overall looks like a lackluster card, but I see at least 4 fights that should be worth watching.

Yet another meh card from the UFC tomorrow.

Moreno/Erceg might be fun, but the rest is flat on paper. I may watch that fight, but the rest of the card I am skipping.

BUT Rizin 50 is this weekend!!!!
Saturday 03.29.2025 at 11:00 PM ET.

That should be a lot of fun. But will probably have to catch a replay in the morning due to the time difference.

Just when i thought my respect for Mark Hunt couldn't get any lower.

The "you're not a fighter" shit is peak cringe. It is like screaming "i'm insecure!"

Do you see me dressing down people over their game opinions? What about your doctor doing it to their patients?

Only fighters can talk about the UFC! Peak logic.

Two fights in and this is great. First fight was blah. But damn were they throwing in Tulio/Gore!

Gore is tough as shit… cuz he took a shit tone of clean strikes. Tulio looked sharp.

Has been terrible since. Just match up after match up with giant young guys vs weathered veterans. And these young guys are not impressive at all.

Overall 314 was a dud. But it was bookended by two good fights. Started with Dominic Reyes getting that sweet KO and ended with a war between Volk and Lopes.

Everything in between was weak size/age mismatches.

Pimblett with some nice shots, that knee was really good. Entertaining fight.

UFC Fight Night..... damn that was a lot of blood from Anthony Smith's head. I mean that shit poured.

God damn

Francis Ngannou lost control over his bike, hit a 17 yo girl. He carried her to the hospital and paid for everything, but she died.

This comes after his 15 months old son died last year because of some brain issue.

Funny MMA story. So I was watching PFL on a stream last night. And when they showed around the ring I saw one of my best friends sitting in the front row. Or at least I thought I did. And it was in Orlando where they live. And they are a (somewhat) a bigwig at EA Sports (Tiburon)... so it seemed possible.

So I text my buddy. And he sends me back pictures of the fights from his amazing vantage. Motherfucker was there! And got ringside seats due to the EA Sports marketing team hooking him up.

Yea, it was an Apex level environment. But he got to "high five" Moldavsky, JDS, Nemkov, Couture and Phil Davis! Too bad Fedor wasn't there corning Moldavsky...cuz that would have been so cool to fist bump the GOAT.

I can honestly say I didnt see RDR beating Bo Nickal by a KO to the body. Those knees broke Bo. He looked done even before that final knee to the liver.

I lost a lot of interest in MMA, in general now that it became so..... Normal.

It's the frequency of the events. Back in the days, every upcoming event was huge, you waited for it, always a bunch of huge fights and great iconic fighters.

Over time, more and more content was created, more events, more fighters, TUF and Contender seasons.

It's not special anymore. At least that's my perspective.

Unfortunately it's been this way for over a decade. I mean we are literally a generation since TUF, almost as long since the end of PridFC. UFC has been "mainstream" since just before UFC 100 and the rise of Brock Lesnar. Not long after we started getting "fight night" and all the non-numbered cards flooding the event list.

For years there were orgs like WEC, Strikeforce and Bellator in the west to watch to get out of the mainstream…. then they all got bought up. At least in the east we have Rizin and One. Both put on spectacular cards… but don't have the best fighters in the world. Especially at higher weight classes.

Fortunately the "normals" only following casually watch and only know a handful of fighters (including Connor McGregor) And they are fare weather fans. So they are easily ignored as the shy away when you begin talking in depth or about history.

True

Brown truly believes the skill level for women's fights just isn't on par with the men and that has resulted in disinterest from a lot of the overall UFC fanbase.

"I don't know how to say it politically correct, but women are just not as good as fighters as men," Brown said. "I don't know if that's a controversial thing to say. They're in a different division for a reason, right? They're just not as good. I think when people get past all the drama, and the excitement and all that, and they start getting into it, they're like I want to see the real motherf*ckers fight. That's kind of my guess.

I think the UFC is gonna try hard to make Nunes' return vs Kayla Harris a big thing… but i honestly don't think anyone cares. So i expect it to be a co-main event. This weekend Shevchenko is defending her belt against a game Manon Fiorot and it's only a co-main event. And to the not fan favorite Balel!!

So Matt is right. The honeymoon is over. People are done with this "equity of outcome" bullshit in MMA. And WMMA will go back to being filler fights to pad cards.

Least til they get another hottie with a body who can actually fight.
