For the 3rd season in a row, we will not have a clean season. 2020 shortened Covid, 2021 still huge chunks of time for portions of the rosters because of Covid. Now 2022 as well.

I guess we are locked out as fans same as players. With nothing to talk about except disappointment. We are all collectively Miami fans now

We all seen it coming years ago, assuming you paid attention to how long term contracts over the last few years were being structured.

And I can't blame the players

I can't believe they actually lost games. It doesn't seem like an agreement is coming anytime soon. They were in a much stronger position with the public in 1994 (before the strike) and it still took years to recover. Will they ever recover from this?

How long do we think this goes on? I don't think we get any baseball until mid-May, wouldn't be surprised with a June start. I don't think April is happening though
 
They're not even close to an agreement - it's not like they're haggling over amounts, they reject each other's ideas wholesale. Unless one side completely caves I could see the whole season being lost at this point.

MLB introduced new terms late in the bargaining game, including rule changes.

On the topic of those negotiations, Blue Jays right-hander Ross Stripling lobbed some fairly eye-opening accusations toward ownership and the manner in which their proposal suddenly changed late in the game. Stripling tells Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet that, as the two sides spoke late Monday evening and into the early hours of Tuesday morning, MLB's proposal suddenly included notable changes regarding the luxury tax. Stripling implies that the changes extend beyond mere alterations to the threshold levels and penalty rates — instead featuring completely new items that had not been previously presented.

"It got to be like 12:30 [in the morning] and the fine print of their CBT proposal was stuff we had never seen before," says Stripling. "They were trying to sneak things through us, it was like they think we're dumb baseball players and we get sleepy after midnight or something. … They pushed us to a deadline that they imposed, and then they tried to sneak some shit past us at that deadline and we were ready for it."

Stripling's comments, to an extent, also mesh with concerns raised by union leader Tony Clark at yesterday's press conference. Speaking in the wake of Manfred's cancelation of games, Clark revealed that during the late stages of negotiations, the league sought to enact a series of rule changes for the 2023 season that would see defensive shifts limited, the size of bases expanded and the implementation of a pitch clock. While Clark noted that the players were not necessarily opposed, the fact that MLB raised them so late in the process left the union with little to no time to discuss them — an obvious point of consternation.

I side with the players to begin with but pretty scum move by the owners to try to sneak things in at the last minute. I also don't know why Manfred has such a raging hard on for implementing shitty rule changes, he actively dislikes (bordering on hates) the game so why the hell is he in charge of the league

Sorry been busy.

I don't know how long this lasts.

However I think how MLB handled 2020 has played a significant role in all this. Any trust between the 2 probably was killed there and then.

The union had been losing every battle as of late. But that was a big one imo.
