Thread: Microsoft Considering Ceasing Marketing of Xbox Consoles in EMEA, Shifting Focus to Game Pass
I'm gonna just be honest here, I get a little triggered by PC gamers simply because I hate how they want PC gaming to take over everything. It just really irritates the fuck out of me. Plus, the implied superiority of their community tends to tick me off too. I'm not saying every PC gamer is like that, or that all of the PC gamers on this forum are like that, but it's something I notice a lot in the online community.

I'm all for people playing games on PC if that's what floats your boat but I'm tired of this "PC is the end game" bullshit all the time.

Consoles and arcades are what has really propped up gaming for several decades. Gaming got popular in a big way with arcades and consoles in the 70s and 80s, that's a fact not an opinion. Console gaming also hit the pop culture in a big way too during the console wars of the 90s and the rise of the Playstation brand, not to mention the success of Nintendo's Wii and its handheld lines. PC gaming has never penetrated the pop culture like arcade/console gaming has. What are all the big successful gaming movies? Mortal Kombat. Tomb Raider. The Super Mario Bros. Sonic 1 and 2. Wreck it Ralph was a tribute to console and arcade games, so was Scott Pilgrim. Gaming begins and ends with consoles and that will ALWAYS be true.

Consoles are never going away. Nintendo could quite honestly maintain the console industry BY THEMSELVES at this point, even if Sony and Microsoft left the gaming industry, and I don't realistically see Sony doing that. Sony is still making boatloads of money despite all of my criticisms of what they're doing these days, and they have a massive ego (just ask Nintendo about that and they'll tell you).

The success of PC gaming has and always will be built on top of the success of the console industry. That's a fact. Console gamers are the REAL "master race" and always have been.

I think objectively now there's a really good case for PCs being the endgame for *enthusiasts*. The reasons for this being it's the one place you can play nearly everything and hardware wise can focus on a machine specifically for your needs.

Now that's not to knock consoles as they are amazing for saving both time and money. Gaming can't be the primary hobby for everyone and so consoles are perfect for just being able to chill and enjoy without all the research and know how required to get the most from PC gaming.

I love PC gaming but it's probably too much of a commitment for most, and I totally get that.

The reason why you see these pc master elitists everywhere is because you focus on them.

When I spent 95 percent of my game browsing on GAF I really really hated playstation players.

Miserable gamers that doesn't care about gaming in general, only likes games Sony makes, and by all means have to trash talk Microsoft and make Microsoft the reason for cancer in the world.

Thankfully changed my view when I started to read on Reddit instead, and also saw people like @Hostile_18 in here who especially showed me that you can have an avatar of Nathan Drake without being a Sony dickrider, and just like gaming in general.

I just think it's easy to point out why pc is considered better on a technical level and its many benefits over consoles. I just guess pc gamers are enthusiasts rather than just gamers.

Even if they went third party have they shown a track record of regular release cadence and/or with well met critical receptions? An ability to handle and manage multiple studios?

I don't see anything that shouts they would make a good third party at the moment. Plus giving 30% of their revenue to Sony would be a bitter pill to swallow.

I have no skin in the game as the last time I actually bought a Xbox console was the 360 but would still hate to see them leave the console market .
They just need new leadership that actually knows what gamers want not what they think they might want .

If you don't think there are high end enthusiasts on console, then I'd recommend you look at the retro customers, especially those who hunt down CRTs for the refresh rate.

I think enthusiasm is ultimately tied to hours invested, regardless of platform. Some people just don't care about PC, that's all it boils down to.

If we wanna make the enthusiast argument, I'd argue that any so-called gamer who ignores handheld platforms like DS or PSP isn't an enthusiast either 🤷‍♀️

Imo there are two types of console gamers.

The modern and the retro.

The modern doesn't really care about bells and whistles and just want to plug and play.

Retros does everything for getting the genuine experience, no matter the cost.

I'm a pc gamer myself, as I don't care at all about the current generation, but I love old games and plays them regularly, even though it's through emulators.

There are more nuances to this

Even with retro gaming it depends where your priorities lie. If you value the original experience it's on the original platform of course. For me it's being able to play it in a superior presentation (on PC). I personally hate things like jaggies and I'd much rather play something like Silent Hill in 4k. As per my original post though that still relies on the time investment learning how to setup emulators etc. You get more out of PC, but you have to put in the time. It's definitely not for everyone. :)
