Thread: Lords of the Fallen |OT| Soul Reaver

Performance is absolute shite on current gen consoles. First game I refunded in years. Will play it when it's inevitably on Gamepass.

Odd, I'm playing on PS5 and only saw significant drops in the Pilgrams Reach zone while in the umbral realm.

However I'm kind of 'cheating' with a VRR set and oddly enough I like how motion blur looks with UE5.

Exactly what I came here to hear. As expected, I'll wait a few months for a patch and a sale. Game does look awesome though.

PS5 and PC had two patches. Whereas Series X was still waiting on its first 24h after those dropped. 2nd patch is also pending on that system and Epic Game store version iirc too (isn't that just a PC version? Wtf is happening in this industry?).

That's strange. Maybe each store has a different certification process. I've heard the PC version has made some good progress with performance and some setups.

I've made some good progress in the game and I do hope people give it a solid chance sooner rather than later. It's pretty damn good.

So is this worth getting if you like Souls games? Release kind of passed me by, but the reviews look half decent.

If you have a good PC (or ps5) I'd say yes, they fixed the majority of small issues I had with it. Targeting is still a bit finicky though.

It's one of the better souls-like out there. Certainly better than the original.

From what I've seen and read of people who have played Lords of the Fallen:

Pros:

Patches for performance improvements are going out, though consoles are behind PC.

People have said it's good enough to be a spiritual Dark Souls 4.

Insane graphics and visuals.

Lots of customization, gear, and the ability to change gear appearance to match.

Level interconnection aims for what Dark souls 1 did but "bigger."

Magic is awesome and easy to use, it should be the standard going forward.

Grim, definitely has that Demon Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne "everything is absolutely ultra fucked" vibe.

Dual wielding is supposedly good.

Cons:

Seen people say this has the flaws of Dark Souls 2 but even worse up to eleven.

Performance but that seems to be the normal for released games unfortunately. At least patches are ongoing.

Reused monster designs.

Very high and aggressive mob density/ambush traps are one of the biggest complaints. Bad enough to the point it discourages exploration. Seem people say the ganking is actually about as bad or even worse then Dark Souls 2.

Ladders can be hard to make out.

Boss rooms can have little to indicate you are entering them and are about to suddenly be in a boss fight.

Not sure what can be done about stuff like janky combat animations, floaty combat and hotboxes.

30% off for digital right now. I am tempted. Already picked up Dead Space and F123 from the sale today. I held off on this to try and get a few opinions first.

Hated the original btw. Up until a few days back I had the wrong impression it that this was simply a remake.

I'm constantly close to buying it but it seems so rough. Some really like it, some hate it. Can't make up my mind.
I finished the game with the "light" ending and certainly enjoyed it. It's a very solid game with a few minor flaws, but the dev team have been listening to feedback and adjusting the game quite a bit. They show a passion for the game that's pretty rare nowadays.

As a souls-like , I would say this is one of the better ones. I wouldn't put it in the 'top tier' but it still above quite a few of them. The dual world lamp mechanic is certainly unique and using the lamp to pull stronger enemies off ledges is welcome.

Also beautiful art direction. The normal world looks like a typical Dark Souls game while the Umbral world has a Bloodbourne feel to it.

The only real gripes I have with the game are a few annoying bosses (small rooms, camera issues) and the lock on target cycling is still a bit finicky. Other than that I really enjoyed it.

This is what I wanted to hear. I liked the first one a little bit but didn't finish it due to boredom. If this one is better then I'll put it in my wishlist.

Same here. I made it about halfway through and put it down. This one has more of a Dark souls 3 feel to it, and the fact that I finished it shows it's a much better game.

Just noticed that the game got a v1.6 release.

Pretty wild. I jumped in at 1.5 and I got up to level 30 and then restarted via the NG+0 option, once I did that the game felt great, but it was like a 15 hour tutorial, lol. The balancing is just wildly off at times, and not in a Souls type way, just poor design really.

It's a good game though once you can juggle the mobs instead of running erratically through whole sections. I set the game aside though because my buddy and I are gonna coop it at some point. The combat and movement speed is awesome in this game.

There's all kinds of additions with this update, I just pasted the ones below because I typed the above before reading the article, pretty funny that the first is basically what I described, lol. It's pretty fucking awesome how much support it has received post-launch.

  • Mob Density – Based on your feedback, we've fine-tuned certain mob encounters to create a smoother, more immersive combat experience by isolating instances to prevent mobs from stacking up. Returning players may find it worthwhile to start anew, as we've added a few fresh surprises along the way! (Original enemy distribution and density can still be accessed via NG+ modifiers.)
  • Ranged Enemies – We've adjusted the perception of certain ranged units to correct instances that felt unfair or unrealistic.
  • Jumping – Platforming in Pilgrim's Perch has been refined with improved indicators, making jumps clearer and navigation smoother.
  • Player-Versus-Player Scaling – To elevate skill-based play in player-versus-player, we've rebalanced scaling mechanics, particularly where magic-infused weapons and spells are concerned. These tweaks apply exclusively to player-versus-player, so player-versus-environment players can continue with their current builds unaffected.
  • Attack Displacement – Some weapon attacks have received slight adjustments to reduce displacement, providing a greater sense of control while preserving effectiveness and supporting your playstyle.

From, Capcom and the rest of the industry could actually take lessons from some of the things Lords of the Fallen is doing.

Including reverting back their character selects (Elden Ring, Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Wilds) from nonsensical dehumanizing body Type A and Type B to proper Male and Female genders.

Support for the second game has been outstanding. Very promising if they keep it up with the sequel, and that may allow the series to start gaining serious momentum.

Yea, LOTF is great. I jumped in at 1.5, it was still pretty rough with various things, mostly just enemy placement and mobs. Felt slop as hell and frustrating because you were more or less forced to run through large sections. That isn't fun.

I know those complaints had been addressed though, even before 2.0. The game is probably a dime across the board now.

Three hours in and I guess I've killed two bosses. Really not sure I understand the stupid lamp and the other dimension you can go to yet. Probably just need to take time to read the tutorial pages.

I chose the guy that wears a wolf skin on his head. Just pumping strength and health stats. I like just bashing enemies with big weapons so I guess I chose the right class.

Really not sure if I'm liking it much but it seems like there's a pretty cool world in this game.

I was seriously about to start another Dark Souls remastered run and actually use my Xbox for a bit and decided on this instead.

I tried using a pre made character like the knight instead of a depraved person with rags. What a difference.

I may have done this with every other Souls title, including Elden Ring. Perhaps why I burn out by the time I start getting decent gear and have yet to beat any of them. Though the sense of going from rags to full plate never gets old.

I heard the sequel to this one is Epic exclusive. Shame, though if they make the same leap from 1 to the sequel, and keep up support Lords of the Fallen might start getting big. Probably not Souls Tier unless they smash the next two games out of the park, but the series could establish itself as solid mid tier franchise.

Pieta is awesome by the way. Aside from being the Filter boss, if you speak with her at one point she even gets giddy over theological historical record,
that is aside from being a blood stained angelic abomination who had people crucified to a gate and their blood drained into her so she could help save the world from the demon lord.

Urgh. Stutter.

Traversal hitches and first time using the lamp at some environment, big stutter.

Game runs at above 120fps, even locking it to 60fps doesn't make it smooth, still noticable hitches.

Come on, game has been out for a long time, I have a high-end rig, fuck this. Coming from Star Wars Outlaws to this is just jarring. Outlaws has huge scale, crazy advanced beautiful visuals, super smooth with no stutters. Then this, bland flat lighting, small scale areas, stutters.
