History and Development

krtdr.jpg

The game known as Kirby's Return to Dream Land was initially announced to be released for the Nintendo Gamecube in late 2005, however, the development focus was shifted for the Nintendo Wii. The game was presumed to be cancelled until 2011 when Nintendo decided to release the game later that year for the Wii. At the time, Kirby's Return to Dream Land was actually the first traditional Kirby platforming game to be released for a home console since Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, which released in 2000. It's the ninth mainline title in the series, sold 1.31 million copies by the end of 2012, and received an aggregate score of 77/100 at Metacritic.

Synopsis

kirbydeluxe6.jpg

One day, a spaceship called the Lor Starcutter crash-lands on Planet Popstar. The captain of this airship is a small cosmic traveler named Magolor, and he hopes to repair his damaged flying vessel and return home. Magolor notices that five vessels and 120 Energy Spheres are missing, and kindly offers Kirby and the others a trip to his homeworld of Halcandra, if they can aid him in recovering the missing materials. And so our adventure begins. Kirby, King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee agree to trek across and travel the planet in search of the lost spaceship parts to help their new stranded friend, Magolor, in Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.

Kirby

kirby.large.jpg

He may only be eight inches tall, but you should never underestimate this little pink hero. On the planet Pop Star, Kirby used his elastic body and his uncanny ability to absorb enemies to save Dream Land from the mischievous King Dedede. Since then, he's gone on countless other adventures and even become a force to be reckoned with in the Super Smash Bros.™ fighting game series. Kirby has the ability to inhale enemies and objects; spitting them out as projectiles or eating them. Depending on the enemy consumed, Kirby can sometimes obtain the abilities of the foes that he eats. These are known as Copy Abilities. Getting to know Kirby a little bit better: Kirby is a jolly fellow, with a positive attitude and loves eating. According to the Kirby wiki fandom, "Kirby is happy, polite, honest, jubilant, delighted, optimistic, cheerful, blameless, trustworthy, and innocent. He loves to eat, dance, defeat enemies, and play, especially during the day. His favorite food is Maxim Tomatoes, which fully restore his health in the games, although in the anime series Kirby: Right Back at Ya! his favorite food appears to be watermelons and he eats them whole." Kirby hails from the peaceful planet, Pop Star, and is known as an extremely skilled technician. Also, a highly versatile and adept adventurer. And although he may appear tiny and cute, it's worth noting that Kirby is an astonishingly powerful Star Warrior, capable of great feats when his enemies put him to the test!

Magolor

Magolor is a short alien with no feet and detached hands with cream colored mittens. Magolor hails from the planet Halcandra, which is located in a different dimension, and is the commander of a dimension-crossing starship called the Lor Starcutter. Magolor, like Kirby, is also very tiny. He can fly, is a learned mage capable of casting spells, and is known to be a bit melodramatic, at times. Magolor is enthused by challenges and particularly enjoys races. He's also a bit of a trickster, and has been known to pull a prank or two for his own amusement; for a good laugh. All in all, Magolor is a skilled technician just like Kirby, a powerful magician, and a remarkable creator, having built his own theme park dedicated to Kirby and his friends.

King Dedede

maxresdefault.jpg

The greedy, portly, self-proclaimed king of Dream Land, King Dedede is Kirby's "arch-frenemy." Armed with a giant hammer, King Dedede often causes trouble, but sometimes helps Kirby out in a pinch. King Dedede is known to partake in troublemaking often, but he is also known to perform more noble deeds as well, as can be seen throughout the Kirby series. Although the king fights against Kirby at times, he is not completely opposed to joining forces with Kirby; sometimes accompanying him on adventures. And while it may seem that he's an egocentric, stubborn, and gluttonous ruler; this is not always the case as King Dedede is not evil. When aiding Kirby in his adventures, King Dedede has proven himself to be a kind and reliable leader, willing to step up and fight in order to protect Dream Land from any looming threats.

Meta Knight

ss_1.jpg

The mysterious swordsman is rarely seen without his iconic mask—and when he does lose it in battle, he runs away! He likes to test his sword techniques out on Kirby, but sometimes serves as an ally. Meta Knight respects a code of chivalry, to the point where he'll almost always offer Kirby a sword to fight with, insisting that he protect himself with it before the two engage in battle. Meta Knight is a fierce swordsman, equipped with his sacred, golden sword, Galaxia. He's enigmatic, a very stoic character with motives that are often ambiguous. Honorable and full of might, Meta Knight is a strong commander; the leader of an army known as the Meta-Knights. Also, Meta Knight is the captain of the Battleship Halberd, an airship that serves as the base of operations for Meta Knight and his warriors. Meta Knight can be described as a well-intended extremist and the relationship between Meta Knight and Kirby is unpredictable; the two can go from bitter rivals to steadfast allies to one another, and it can change in a moment's notice.

Bandana Waddle Dee

Waddle Dees are the most common inhabitants of Dream Land. While mostly harmless, some Waddle Dees have been known to loyally serve King Dedede. Bandana Waddle Dee, sometimes abbreviated B.W. Dee or called Bandana Dee, is an ally of Kirby's who commonly wields spears as his weapon of choice. He is one of the Waddle Dee species, and his navy blue bandana sets him apart from the crowd. He's a steadfast ally to Dedede and later on in the series, would also become an ally and great friend to Kirby as well. Bandana Waddle Dee is a fearless and loyal warrior, willing to push himself to his very limits in a fight if it means defending those he believes in.

I really really enjoyed Forgotten Land recently but I'm guessing this isn't the same jam? Sorry I can't watch the videos where I am, is this much better with buds?

I haven't played either yet, but this should align with traditional Kirby, the adventure will be comparable to Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards except more story, more allies to work with. 4-player co-op is probably my favorite aspect here, both in the adventure and the sub-games. I wanna check out Merry Magoland too, looks great

If you decide to play with others then the adventure will likely be a breeze. Kirby games are usually easy anyways, imagining others helping to clear the levels — yea this game will be cake if you play with your buds. Probably still a lot of fun though
