IGN: 8/10
With its elegantly simple combat and beautiful world, Kena: Bridge of Spirits harkens back to the days of the N64/GameCube-era Zeldas, Okami, and Star Fox Adventures, while also adding modern sensibilities and a distinct personal touch.

PC Gamer: 65/100
Looks better than it plays, but it's got a good heart.

Games Radar: 4/5
An agreeable adventure that's transformed into something special by its enchanting aesthetic

Game Informer: 9/10
The world is fun to explore, and your time is rewarded with secrets galore and hats for your little Rot followers

Destructoid: 8/10
I wouldn't call Kena: Bridge of Spirits overly ambitious. More like "strategically ambitious." Ember Lab avoided biting off more than it could chew with its first game, and I dug it.

Game Rant: 4/5
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a short but sweet action-adventure game with a heartwarming story and great graphics that make it feel like a Disney movie.

ACG: Buy

Press Start: 8/10
As an indie effort and a debut game, Kena: Bridge of Spirits makes a good impression. It balances simplicity and challenge while weaving a neatly-paced story into something that can be played over a chill couple of days. Despite fantastic production values it's still far from a AAA title – so it's important to keep expectations in check, but anyone looking to lose themselves in a charming, gorgeous world ripe for exploration should look no further. It's exactly what I needed right now – perfect cozy weekend entertainment.

TheGamer: 4/5
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a very good game that feels like it's already been left behind by modern genre conventions. There's nothing all that frustrating in that - we shouldn't expect games, especially those made by studios the size of Ember Labs, to be constantly groundbreaking, but so much of Kena feels borrowed from elsewhere that it's difficult to call it great. It's a solid, enjoyable experience, and charming enough that you won't care that you've played versions of it before. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it's a pretty nice wheel nonetheless.

GameSpew: 10/10
Kena: Bridge of Spirits truly is something special, and I can't wait to see what Ember Lab does next.

DualShockers: 10/10
I really can't recommend Kena: Bridge of Spirits highly enough that will see players partake in a meaningful journey absorbed in a vibrant world filled with fluid animations that cries out to be explored. With the game's added photo mode, expect to add on a few more gameplay hours as you fill up your gallery with lots of cute Rot pictures, too.

The game has some serious Overlord vibes (which I loved) and it's landed on my wishlist after the recommendation from Karak. :) Too many other games coming out right now to give it a shot and hopefully the retail version rumors are true.

You'll have to tell us whether or not the PC Gamer review score is an overreaction, 65 is just as extreme as the two perfect scores
It's not perfect, but no where near a 65/100. Especially considering it's not a full retail price game. That 65 sounds idiotic.

The game is only 10 - 15 hours? Fucking perfect length! Makes me even more interested.

Also, pretty good reviews. Will wait for some more impressions here and then possibly buy it!

New content for the screenshot thread incoming.

Yeah TBH that seems like a healthy length for a game of this sort. Something you can play over a few days and doesn't outstay its welcome.

Just watched parts of a video review, explaning some of the gameplay mechanics. He said it took him 9 hours to finish the game.

I'm sold. After Days Gone, I want a colorful and light game, that isn't too long. Will buy it after work.

Always glad to support these kind of devs. And yes, I'll buy it on EGS because I'm not a drama queen cunt.

Very nice, love to read that. Just give me a straightforward action/adventure. I don't need all the bells and whistles that we see other studios pack into the gameplay.

I'm gonna get this on PS5, looks like a pita to get running at 60fps at 4K on a GTX 1080, would have to mess with settings a lot and 4K30 Ultra is probably not quite locked either so getting PS5 for HDR + Dualsense support + no hassle setup.

Feels locked 60 in performance mode. At least to my untrained eyes.

Nice to hear, I was talking about PC if that wasn't clear, but I realise you could also just be telling me its locked on PS5 so I know its a good buy.

I want to buy it right now but I have too much else to play, I need to stop spending goshdarnit.

Yes, specifically talking about PS5. There is a small hitch every once in a while that feels like a few frame drops when running. It's hardly noticeable however.

Looks like a fun game. I want to pick it up but I will lost a portion of my life soon to D2 so time says wait for a sale. Congrats to the team as its reviewing quite well.

The comparisons to Okami are interesting. Okami is an amazing game, but it's also quite large from what I remember, actually on par with some Zelda titles in quality. Kena from what I've heard is around 9-12-15? hours which would only be around a third to a fourth of Okami's 30-40 hour size.

Feels much closer to Beyond Good & Evil for me than something like Okami
