Thread: Jeff Gerstmann is leaving Giant Bomb
Stopped caring about game journalism when videos and forums allowed to assess the quality of a game better than said journalism.
Gaming journalism, gaming stuff in general be based on personalities, isn't for me.
While there's truth that there are better ways to find out about a game these days, I do still miss the days of good quality journalism in games magazines. They exposed you to games you might not otherwise know about, and sometimes the reviews were well-written enough to grab your interest. I miss the days of Zero and PC Zone for instance which were always good fun, even the games that I had no intention of buying. They were simply a good read. Even in the online era RockPaperShotgun used to be fucking fantastic, until they swallowed the woke poison and became insufferable. I enjoyed reading that stuff, and it sucks that there isn't anything out there for people like me who enjoy the written word.

Can't really argue with that, and perhaps I was being too general. It's nice to have an overview of games, short descriptions and some screenshots. I read movie and anime magazines for this reason actually and I can do that in a relaxed fashion before sleeping, Indeed, watching youtube videos or reading a forum on smartphone isn't really a substitute for that.
What made gaming journalism insufferable to me were the loud personalities, the shilling, and indeed later, the woke content, although by that point I've already avoided it mostly.
