I am a lot more forgiving of diversity, women being able to do stuff that makes no sense because of Sci-Fi. It can all be explained away via futuristic tech, human expansion among the stars etc... As long as they abide by the rules of the physics they set up. Best and clear example I can point out is anything in Star Wars, but specifically Gina Carano's fight with The Mandalorian. She punches the Mandalorian in his helmet (made of Beskar Steel which is supposed to be able to stop Light Sabers), with a bare fist and knocks him down. No. Not buying it. Luke Skywalker couldn't pull that off without the Force. Girl Boss bullshit and even I like Gina Carano's character, but they break the rules of the universe in a way that is slap-stick nonsense.
Many such cases.
What I cannot get on board with is when they shoehorn modern sensibilities and ideology in what is supposed to be a futuristic aesthetic. This is most notable as the Porsche, Addidas and CD Roms being bandied about. I don't want to think about Earth in the past in this way as much as I want to think about the possibilities of the Human origin story on Planet Earth as we explore the stars in the search of ourselves. Even worse and something I will never get on board for is post-modern political identity bullshit. This is Naughty Dog and you are damned sure that will be a promise and a premise, right down to the behavior of the protagonist acting like a petulant victim being [oppression]-splained about something as they suck on their empty soda in protest; Modern Audiences. There will be intersectional messaging and it will stand out and I will point it out as it appears.
You are going to have to deal, too bad.
Nobody cares if a woman is a protagonist, but everyone understands the message today because the useful idiots have overplayed their hand and companies like Naughty Dog are happy to infuse slop at every level they can for their California Message. It is as stupid as Jennifer Lawrence putting her foot in her mouth when she made a controversial comment about "nobody had ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie" during the filming of Hunger Games. She implied she was the first female action star, ignoring all that have come before her from Alien to Tomb Raider to the movies like "To Catch a Thief" from 1955 where Grace Kelly defied the supposed gender stereotypes the modern era decries, because she kept every bit of her femininity intact.
You can get away with a lot in Science-Fiction tales that you cannot in Fantasy. Sci-Fi is more forgiving, I am more forgiving in Science Fiction universes, unfortunately the powers that be know what they are doing, they are leaning into it, and there will be the pixel masturbators who will eat it up because colors and lights WAOW!, while the rest of us are rolling our eyes at the message that is all pervasive. What I find funny is how they finally got a modern era Car manufacture into the universe, as if Porsche would be the go to space barge people want instead of something a lot more creative and with it's own lore.

I've got alot going on at the moment. I haven't even seen the trailer. This is what people wanted, not another Last of Us, a new IP etc.
In any case I'm day 1 for any Naughty Dog product. Never had less than a 10/10 experience, the studio has my complete trust.

Never trust any game company based on their previous output.
There is such a high turnover of staff and ever ballooning amount of bloat, that in the intervening half decade or more between one game's release and the next, it may as well be a completely different studio, even before you take into account western studios promoting based on superficial characteristics and politics rather than talent.
A studio is only as good as their next game, not their last.

naughty dog has been on a downward trajectory since the start of the ps4.....lets be honest.....last of us 2 played great but the story/pacing/structure of the game was allover the place and you can clearly see why.....
Neil Druckman was not kept in check and allowed himself to become the white kojima..........since then we have had numerous remasters/remakes of their good games and the first new IP game that comes out straight off the bat features a deliberately diverse main character that you can already see the internet groaning about.
kojima had a great run with Konami because he was kept in check....im not saying Death Stranding was a bad game but there is defiantly no shortage of people that hated the game
and his new xbox exclusive game looks even more out there.
im not saying going back to a big titty brunette with guns is the way to go but the studios track record outside of people being able to keep Neil D in check isnt the best and my guess

Well you should be, not only because that's fucking awesome and a selling point in it's own right, but because the only way you're getting that in a game is without the talentless grifters and political activists that make western AAA an endless cavalcade of slop.
All normal people love sexy women, even women, and anyone who doesn't is a disgusting spiteful mutant who has thankfully most likely already taken themselves out of the gene pool.

I think ultimately we all want our favorite studios to focus on what they are good at and not overly focus on bringing in new audiences. In this example it's Naughty Dog, I totally get why this won't be for some people..think of a game studio you love would you want them to cater to you as a fan or the critics?

ND has gone deeper into this woke DEI ideology. I draw the line there. I know absolutely nothing about this game other than
1) The studio has a recent history of pandering to the DEI crowd
2) The game character is off putting.
As a gamer, how we relate to a character affects our continued interest in game and this includes physical features. As I said earlier I don't know much about the game or the depth of its character
But the initial design is off putting and the person they are basing it off is also off putting given what she has put out there. That formula TYPICALLY leads to a woke, DEI mess.
Take the Snow White adaptation recently. We all know the character of Snow White, most of us grew up loving the story but the lady they have playing Snow White affects the product of the game.
These small nuances leak into the final product which affects the overall experience because of course the actors and actresses do have some input and sometimes writers fashion a story around what's suitable to those actors and actresses.
Now I could be completely wrong, ND ignores everything and gives us a fantastic game with good story, deep complex characters and awesome gameplay. They certainly are excellent in the game play department but their story making is questionable and LOU2 burned ALOT of good will.

Look man, as a fellow (former) big ND fan, there's really no good way around this one. I guess you somehow enjoyed Tlou2, but I really don't see the appeal of playing a game with such a smug and unlikable protagonist like the trailer is showcasing, and don't give me "but that's not the whole game!" bullshit, I take whatever they put out in promotions as their intentions for what they want for the game, and what they want based on the trailer just seems like pissing people off at the cost of the quality of the game (another TLou2). I guess one can go away with "I can just try to enjoy the rest of the game if it's good" which is fair of course. For me, it's just over.
This doesn't discount the fact some users do spend way too much time hyperfixated on this crap, like you do you, but I already moved on the second I saw that shiny dome. The game went straight to the don't buy blacklist (it was automatically there since this is modern ND, just that it has an ugly face to attach to it now). I would rather spend my limited time online talking about games that I enjoy, not the opposite.

I'm glad the way I felt about the trailer is being echoed here. This game will be a total pass for me as far as buying this game.
I seriously wonder when all the backlashes that transpired in 2024 will start taking effect in development. This character and everything that went into development probably happened 5-6 years ago. Would this still be their ideal MC having seen very specifically how the clear majority of gamers feel about this growing trend.
For a business that's grown so big you'd expect it to be run by accountants I'm trying to find any IP in the history of time that became more successful replacing the male MC with a female....... Movie/Cartoon/Game/Anything help me out here is there one?
