Thread: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet - Reveal Trailer (new Naughty Dog game, featuring the Pet Shop Boys)
It has been 5 years since the console launched and ND still hasn't made a PS5 game…

They probably thought they were gonna put out Factions as a live service moneymaker, keep that going for a few years, then launch the lesbian space game.

Instead, they've missed an entire generation and the only thing they have going is an incredibly expensive new IP with a main character no one even likes so far.

100% Jim Ryan and his new leadership team fucking up again. The damage that cunt has done to Playstation is astronomical and is going to be a millstone around the platforms neck at least halfway into next gen, if they can even pull themselves out of the the decline spiral he put the platform into.

The effects have been somewhat mitigated so far because Phil Spencer is an even bigger fuck up and PS5 has been able to cannibalise market share from XSS/X this gen, but even then they're down on PS4 sales and that's not a trick they can do twice.

There's a real opportunity for Valve to seriously cut into the console market next gen with their rumoured Steam Deck console, and I don't think anyone doubts Switch 2 is going to blast past the PS5's sales in the same way Switch 1 did the PS4.

Ironically I'd argue the PS5Pro has aptly demonstrated that chasing high end, expensive hardware is a fools errand in this era of undeniable diminishing returns. It failed to deliver significant improvements to graphics, cost a Bomb and is already falling behind PS4Pro sales, showing that even on the enthusiast end of sales the limit for price point tolerance has been exceeded.

We need 'good enough' and cost effective hardware, and Nintendo and Valve have both proven they can provide that.
But they've released a bunch of remasters. Story of the PS5 itself, really.

I'm curious as to how the TV series goes in the sense of whether it will prove to be Druckmanns exit strategy from gaming. Last time around it rightfully lost out to Succession come awards season, so HBO are probably banking on it cleaning up come awards season because 'HBO'. However, if it fails to deliver Druckmann's not exactly going to be lauded and Intergalactic honestly doesn't look like it is going to set the world alight either. I can't imagine Sony can continue to bankroll a Studio or a Studio head who is not delivering Gold, versus trading on past glories at this juncture.

Agree with most of it - just gotta defend the Pro a bit, it does deliver a clearly better experience in many cases where you can have the Quality mode visuals from Amateur running at 60 instead of 30fps on Pro. Which is a very good achievement. And for some games like FF7 Remake, it has been transformative in regards to image quality.

Buuuuuuut of course there were significant fuck ups as well with games that even looked WORSE than on base console because of fucked PSSR integration. Like wtf holy shit what are you even doing. Back when DLSS launched, Nvidia curated every game and made sure the implementation was at least ok. Sony just released it without proper quality control.

So I'd say, somewhat rocky launch but there's no denial that it can offer significant improvements. Hopefully, the now fixed PSSR will provide more consistent results.

Oh I'm not saying it does nothing, but it's a far cry from the clear improvements the PS4Pro provided, including to frame rates in many games, while costing half what they're asking for the PS5Pro.

Hell, in most crossgen titles we're still getting the PS4Pro is continuing to provide great looking and more than playable gaming experiences.

Beyond a certain point now, all more powerful hardware seems to do is allow worse bloat and inefficiency to be excused as a hardware failure, not growing incompetence across the industry.

The improvements from PS4 Pro are comparable with the PS5 Pro, at least when comparing 60fps modes (30fps modes on Amateur have often very nice image quality already). But key factor here is pricing. While the PS4 got cheaper and the Pro took its place, it was a way better value proposition than PS5 actually becoming more expensive than on launch and Pro going nuts with the pricing.

Sad state of the industry. You get basically the same level of improvements as last gen Pro but at double the price. Not great.

Back to topic:
Someone at Sony really needs to reign in development costs and times. The studios are barely even making one game per generation.

Honestly Naughty Dog used to be the master of this.

Uncharted 1 & 2 cost 20 million each to make, which was extremely cheap even at the time, while 3 got given 50 million and failed to be a significant improvement over 2, even with a much larger marketing campaign.

Really Playstation need to get back to their late PS3 era philosophy of small budgets and blue ocean genres, catering to market gaps that aren't usually given the big budget game treatment, while keeping costs lower and sharing resources and knowledge between small teams again.

That's what produces the surprise hits and draws in the enthusiasts that will work as free marketing, not bloated AAA slop that competes with all the other bloated AAA slop.

Yeah, every manager should look at Helldivers 2 vs Concord and understand that many smaller projects with a few potential hits is the better option here. Compared to only doing a few super high investment projects with questionable results.

What's a few hundred million lost though when virtue is on the menu? Why, I bet most here if you polled them were asked what they'd rather have, a game made for the Chuds or one made to support all the indigenous, underrepresented, non-patriarchal, LGBTQ, BIPOC people in the world AKA THE NON BIGOTS? Everyone would vote one hundred percent in favor of virtue and inclusivity. Virtue and inclusivity have a cash value, sir!!!!!!

Exactly, gotta see the bigger picture. Sony are out there in the trenches fighting the good fight against 'The Man'. I'm sure their Shareholders understand the mission.

I actually think long term that Jim Ryan is going to have leveraged more damage to Sony than Phil Spencer has Microsoft. How these companies don't see that bad leadership is cancer is beyond me. Both of them should have been fired after a couple years.

Exactly. Shit, I'll say the quiet part out LOUD, TLOU2's story sucked balls. I can't imagine how the showrunners of the HBO show are going to polish that turd of a plot, or somehow make Abby an appealing protagonist. And with Sony saying no thanks to a third game in the series and that's all she wrote for this IP. I can imagine Cuckmann is desperate for Intergalactic to be a hit but given the reception the trailer got it seems unlikely.

Correction, The Orange Man. And his filthy sidekick the Muskrat.

She mocked gamers and then cried

And I hope she basks in the same warm reception that Bella Ramsay is receiving for The Fail of Us Season 2. I'm pretty sure Cuckmann also prepared her for that, except now it's the normie tv audience who are letting their displeasure known rather than gamers.

Seriously though, who the fuck attends fan hate boot camp? If you're so goddamn sensitive about fan response then don't partake in the creative entertainment industry. People who work for a living and are subject to public scrutiny don't get this much preferential treatment.

It's been astounding with the TV series that they've been running with this hate narrative and review bombing and blaming the gamers. I thought TLOU2 sucked, and I didn't see the point in even watching the series. I honestly thought that with Craig Mazin as the main showrunner that he'd probably round it out enough to sort out the rough edges of the game, but from I've read that didn't happen and as soon as Joel got offed, the ratings plunged off a cliff. I believe they already committed to a 3rd season so that's gotta suck for HBO.

Not watching the series either, so all I'm going on is what other's have said regarding it. Somehow, the showrunners took Cuckmann's shite narrative for the 2nd game and somehow made it WORSE in the 2nd season. Here's what Critical Drinker and crew had to say about it:

I anticipate that Druckmann and Co were thinking with Succession wrapped up they would be winning all the awards, but I fully expect that Andor will be eating their lunch come awards time.

It seems mad to me that they didn't account for the poor reception Joel's death had on the second game. Not making changes to that particular part of the story seems at odds and I am glad that TV audience are also voicing their displeasure at it. If the writing team could have left Joel's demise to be a season-ending cliffhanger or something perhaps it would have been more compelling. Offing him so early was utterly misguided and the weird change of having Dina be there and not Tommy didn't seem necessary?

Druck hopefully learning a few lessons here. though I fear he's too far up his own arse to ever come out.

The 2nd game's poor reaction was just due to gamers being racist bigot Nazis. The viewers of the TV show aren't racist bigot Nazis, so they would completely welcome and love the 2nd season of the show being the same as the 2nd game. And when the ratings skyrocket and they win tons of awards for season 2, it proves that they were right all along about how the gamers were wrong all along!

I haven't been watching as I said , but the fact that they still had any witnesses to the killing Joel, and they left them alive afterwards versus just double tapping them to cover their tracks still blows my mind as one of the most retarded plot holes ever.

That makes total sense to me. She only wants revenge on Joel. Killing someone innocent would make her just like he was. Plus they were about to dissappear forever with her group.

Joel letting his guard down so easily is however, a real groan worthy moment.

Probably didn't expect 18 year old 40kg girl to be able to hunt them all down and murder 300 people.

Exactly. The death of a main character like Joel deserved to be at the end of the season, and not done at the beginning of the sequel just to incite shock value. Shit, another HBO series did it properly and it still stands as one of the most haunting moments in TV history:

90

Nowadays we make fun of his writing and laziness, but back then George RR Martin (who is himself a former TV writer) knew how to keep readers on their toes so that they were in the dark as to the fate of Ned Stark until the very end of A Game of Thrones. And the showrunners were wise enough to follow Martin's blueprint in the adaptation.

He didn't learn the last time after the backlash to the TLOU2, so why would he change course now? Doing so would be admitting gamers had a point and no way is he going to give those alt right bigot nazis any sort of credit!

What's even more retarded is Abby's reaction to meeting Elle again.

Like what the hell you roided up bitch?! You kill her adopted father and expect her to be grateful and just accept it? Or has all that muscle gone to your brain blinded you to the fact that you did the very same thing in traversing the hellscape that is the of TLOU's United States just to find the man who killed your own father?

Dude. Abby is supposed to be one of the WLF's top Scar killers at this point. The idea that her being merciful is some baller move is dumb as hell. In the game, they haven't even reconnoitred Jackson when they arrive before things kick off.

For all they know Jackson could have an Apache Gunship under a tarp somewhere and they're about to find out just how utterly fucked they are.

There is no good argument to leave witnesses that could identify them, versus execute and make their escape, given they are in hostile territory 800 Km from Seattle.

The only reason for it to happen is simply because Druckmann wanted feelz over realz.

Also, wouldn't they want to know about the girl with the cure Joel absconded from Salt Lake with? Wouldn't they at least be curious as to what happened to her? Might they not wonder who this girl is screaming bloody murder at them is after they kill Joel?
