I've had this issue for years. I get to the end of a good game, and I feel like not ending it because I dont want it to end. Am I alone? Obviously this is for single player games, just to head off a smart ass.

I'm close to the end of Ratchet & Clank and yet again, having these same feelings.

Yeah I did it for a lot of games.

Especially something like Mass Effect 3 when everyone said the ending ruined it.

That is me after any long game or story deep driven game. RDR2, ME2, BOTW, GoT and so on. Of course at this point I can step back and see that I need to let go so I can experience the next superlative game title.

I did it a ton when I was younger. So many JRPGs on PS1 had a save file before the last dungeon/boss. Just did not want them to end. I always planned to go around the world doing the extra content and come back to finish the ending, but just never did.

I have this issue with TV shows more than games. I have stopped at the last episodes of a lot of seasons of things only to never finish it.

I remember getting to the last boss in FF9 and stopping for whatever reason but I eventually did go back and finish it.

I have a problem... I youtube endings if I get sick of a game I'm playing.
Me too. In my case it was usually because I wasn't leveled enough for the final boss and I couldn't be bothered grinding when I just wanted to finish.

Did you ever try, ya know, git good?😎
I usually finish games but some RPGs have such a steep difficulty increase towards the end that the time taken to grind at the end would be better spent playing another game. I played the first final fantasy and first 2 dragon quests and they were paced just right. Some games are just stretching the end game too thin.

Many games feel like a slog to me now. The replayability of (many) games fizzled out for me after the ps2 era. The netflix model of gaming makes each experence less important to me now for some reason. Like I should play this rather then I want to play this if I downloaded it from ps plus or steam!

I'm complaining about having too much access and too much choice which sounds counter intuitive I know. It's not as if games got worse or anything its not the devs fault, maybe i'm just older and more jaded?

Put it this way, I play more red alert and rollercoater tycoon (20 year old games) then my ps5, maybe i'm just a nostalgia chaser and cant appreciate what I have?

This , I never replay most new games and it's usually more one and done and on to the next one.

Only game that happened to me was Dark Souls.

Nowadays I want games to be shorter and feel like many games tend to drag towards the end. Like the recent two games I've finished, WD Legion and Metro Exodus. Real drag queens.

I never particularly loved Final Fantasy X. In its launch year on PS2, when it was at the most hyped it could ever be for me, it didn't live up to how I felt about the PS1 FF games. I got to nearly the last part and stopped. I started it over years later, got to the big open area somewhat near the ending point and stopped again. It was the quintessential "I will do this side stuff before beating it but then never beat it" part of the game.

Many years (and generations) later, I bought the FFX/X-2 HD remaster on PS4 for like $8. You will not believe this, but I got to the point were you board Sin or whatever the fuck. And I stopped again. Maybe it wasn't because I didn't want it to end, I think I had just gotten tired of the formula and other games were out. But god damn, I've gotten to the end and not beaten it 3 fucking times in my life. Meanwhile, I did 2 100+ hour playthroughs of FFXII...you can't explain this shit

Sometimes? I tend to get this more when finishing a really good book series. Like, one I've been reading for weeks or months. Likewise, this only happens if a game has a really good story and characters that I've grown attached to, which is pretty rare these days.

I do the exact same thing, not just with games either, with TV shows (per season, only watching the last few episodes of a season after the new one is out), movies, and books. To this day I haven't played the last two hours of GoW, the last 6ish hours of RDR2, and countless more. I also haven't seen the last few episodes of Mandalorian, The Boys, Mindhunter (please, please give me more), The Witcher or Loki.

I'm not sure it's cause I don't want it to end though. I'm the same way with anything not just entertainment, as soon as I get comfortable and feel like I understand or can predict something I loose interest and move on to something more new, challenging or mysterious. The trailer for the next season is more interesting than the ending of the current one. I guess I like asking questions more than getting them answered. I constantly have to fight against that instinct at work or we'd have endless feature creep.

Anyone who does this is stupid. Seriously what's wrong with you.

you get so much satisfaction by seeing something through to the end and being able to reflect upon it.
And like someone else mentioned new game plus (if the game has it) should encourage you to complete the game.

Yeah I had that for resident evil village most recently so I played through it about four more times on different difficulties and aiming for different trophies. But eventually I had to stop and the problem is getting into a new game, especially games these days because nothing is pick up and play anymore it feels like.

Yea, I definitely know the feeling. Took me 2+ decades to finish Albert Odyssey on the Sega Saturn.

My older brother and I played it when we were kids while our dad was dying of cancer. It was a nice escape and the game is really special to me and him. Playing it as an adult was never sad or hard to play, I just liked the thought of being on an adventure with it. I finally played through the whole thing last winter and was glad I did. It's not like I needed closure, the game was never like that, but it was cool to see it through. Very fun by-the-numbers JRPG, but it has the entertaining 1990s Vic Ireland translation. Working Designs was an awesome publisher back then. The game goes for like $300 now which is pretty ridiculous. It's not that good but the OST has some amazing tracks.

Other series is Mass Effect, 1 & 2. I just enjoy them so much that I have a hard time completing them, lol. Someday I plan on getting to ME3 also. I still don't know the ending so NO SPOILERS!!! lol.

Promised myself that I would finish Rygar on the PS2. Lost my old save and am about a quarter of the way through. There is no real hand holding in the game and I retread areas all the time looking for where to go. I will finish it.
