I wish I took a screen shot so i didn't have to type this.

Basically about a week ago I saw a post on 4channel were a poster was claiming to be wealthy and also was on an acknowledged autistic quest to ruin vpns for posters who use them. (By posting child porn so that 4chan range bans the ip)

Ha claimed he has done this for almost all the major VPN providers as well as multiple free vpns.

I have Opera on my laptop but only 4chan post by phone. This shit stuck in my mind for a good week until I finally tried to post from opera on laptop and yes, all the free vpns had perm bans dating back to 2018 but not for cp.

So is it possible, if you have the money to burn and the autism to take them time, to actually do something like that?

I tried to google it but had no luck

I mean this was happening for years on /tv/. Constant spam of not sea pea but close enough for them to ban the ip forever. Always done on a VPN too of course. Thought it was paid VPNs though but idk.
That was literally the thing I have been thinking about, I would always ignore them but those threads were common as fuck and I never really put any thoughts into if it was one guy or multiple.

Now im curious. If they have people who can find Shias flag by the stars im open to believing a one man crusade against VPN users

Any VPN service worth its salt has quite lot of IPs it rotates between and randomly assigns different users per server. So while what this guy is doing is technically possible, it would require A LOT of time and money to do effectively, especially with ipv6. It's also worth noting that it's fully possible for VPN services to just discard old IP's every once in a while and make available a whole new batch to their users, as more VPN ips are identified and mapped by various hosts it would make a lot of sense to do this, though it would cost them a bit.

I also expect we'll have a mainstream-ish blockchain based VPN service sooner rather than later which would make this really hard to do.

As long as the VPN company has a limited pool of IPv4 adresses, it would work yes. Lots of cloud providers have their IPs blocked by twitter, YT, and instagram due to people creating VPS hosts with anti-botnet frontends (nitter/invidious/libreddit).

The reason most sites that ban fun like 4chan and Resetera use ipv4 exclusively is because ipv6 blocks have a varying size depending on the ISP they're after (comcast is especially guilty of using nonstandard ranges) and banning addresses individually is usaeless as you only have to reset the network interface (not even the modem).

It might work agaisnt vpns but if dpns prosper don't think it can work against dpns. Not only will dpns eventually have 100s of thousands of ips, but some are also using ai to block bad actors from using their services.

This wouldn't work all that well for any "good" VPN service. They'd would have such a high number of IPs to rotate through and eventually discard, replacing them all the time with new ones. I find it hard to imagine anyone being determined enough to make this type of effort a big success.

btw while on the topic of vpns, in privacy sub reddit I think they said several vpn providers as well as several vpn reviewers sites were bought by a prior malware company.
