I'm going with the right choice here!

A Link to the Past was great back in its day, but nothing can challenge the might, grandeur and majesty of Dark Souls III.

I'm not sure if its better than Elden Ring or not though... man having to choose that would make me cry.

After playing previous Souls games, DS3 kinda felt like a best off. While I didn't find it to be incredibly special or unique like Bloodborne or ER, it's still an amazing game overall, especially on its own.

Dark Souls 3 is amazing, and I'll admit better then Link to the Past in a lot of ways. Combat, graphics, QoL, build variety, character customization, gear, ect, ect.

Link to the Past was among the best games ever made for a long time after its release and still arguably is, and also laid the Zelda formula framework refined in Link's Awakening and then perfected in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask which would go on to influence just about every 3D game, including Demon Souls, Dark Souls, and it's sequels like Dark Souls 3, spiritual spin offs like Bloodborne, spiritual successors with Elden Ring, great Soul influenced games like Nioh 1/2.

Would love a HD-2D Remake of Link to the Past, (A Link Between Worlds is amazing, but it's graphics are far too cartoonish. Ditto Links Awakening Remake, and everyone thinking the reveal trailer would be the actual graphics which would have been too good to be true.) but alas I doubt it. There still has been nothing on Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake since it's reveal.

LTTP was my most played game as a kid. I beat it dozens of times. DSIII is a really good game, but it is hard to beat out the nostalgia from LTTP. I still play it every few years too. One of those games that manages to hold up well throughout the decades.

This would be much harder if it was Dark Souls vs Zelda LttP.

Dark Souls for me is the quintessential Souls game, and its impact has never been bettered. Completing Dark Souls was one of the most enjoyable and memorable gaming experiences of my life, and I banged on about it to other gamers who hadn't played it yet and converted them. I haven't completed Dark Souls 2 or 3, but played both, but to be honest they felt like 'more Dark Souls, but you know what that is now'.

So gonna go with Zelda for this one.

Another good face off @Hostile_18!

Another super easy one for me. Love the shit out of LttP. It is the foundation of what a good top down action adventure game should be. It took LoZ and turned it up to 11 with a layer of tasteful filigree.

Have played it a half dozen times on multiple platforms. It has aged very well IMO and still a delight to this day. I am gleefully waiting for a remake (a la Links Awakening). Between Worlds was a decent pseudo sequel.

LttP is my first Zelda game, I never had NES. Was one of the first games I played when I was able to buy SNES with my own money.

One of my favorite game of all time.

LttP even tho wasn't an outright RPG. It had enough similarities that it became a gateway to many JRPGs I played on the SNES. FF6, Chrono, Evermore, Mana, Breath of Fire and many more!

LTTP is more fun.

These are tough. If you ever watch people debate the NBA, they always talk about how it's hard to compare eras. Like if you stuck Lebron in 1978, he would seem like a space alien. That's what this is like.

Am I supposed to pretend both games got released yesterday? Because in terms of graphics and complexity and variety and features, it's clearly DS3. But if you are evaluating LTTP in its era, it's firmly one of the best games ever released and set the standard for modern adventure games.

It's like when people talk about Wilt Chamberlain. He definitely wouldn't average 50 pts a game today. But he did in his time. LTTP is like that. If it was released today, it wouldn't be looked at the way it is. It would still be a fine game, but it's legendary in its time. DS3 isn't legendary. It's just the evolution of the original DS, which I feel like would be a better competition for LTTP.

Right I'm gonna download this game. I wanna see if half the forum is right that a Snes game is better than Dark Souls frigging 3 😉

LTTP is the most vanilla Zelda out there. Each subsequent game improved and added something to it. I'd rather replay them than LTTP.
Do you like Spirit Tracks more than LTTP Mr. Ketchup? 🧐

A lot of us probably played LTTP when we were 10 and it opened up a whole new universe for us. For many of us, before LTTP video games were one thing and afterwards, we learned they could be something else. It's hard to compete with that.

People are free to use whatever criteria they want to evaluate games. Personally I will be evaluating all games by today's standard. Which could make things difficult as I haven't played many of the older games for decades, but I think I have a decent idea of what would hold up.

Won't be voting this round though. I found both games just ok.
