Thread: Horizon Forbidden West Preorders Live (several editions)
Note that the really expensive versions only come with a digital code in the game case.

Ps4 version does not upgrade to Ps5 version for free.

The expensive versions coming with a case that has no disc is beyond dumb.

Having to pay more for the ability to have both version is a joke when you can't keep the systems in stock. At the very least include an upgrade path. At the absolutely very fucking least, if you get the PS5 version you should have access to the PS4 version. Give people the ability to pay now if they plan on getting a PS5 instead of making the shell out even more.

This is far more complicated than it should be. You buy the game, you get both versions and be done with it you greedy fucks.

For people who want to play it now but dont have a PS5 yet and plan on getting one.

Strikes me as trying to get two things for the price of one tbh. Buy the game you want to play for the system you have.

It is nice when I get a free upgrade like Doom Eternal, but I don't expect them.

Im sorry what? Its the same game. You wouldn't be getting a free upgrade in either capacity. You are already paying the PS5 price.

Two skus of a game are not the same thing imo. It's like saying you deserve the 4K disc version of a movie for free in 3 months because that's what you really want, even though you're buying the standard BR disc now because you can't wait.

Thats why 99 percent of 4k discs come with blu rays already. You pay the more expensive price now for that ability.

Nobody is asking for anything free.

Considering Sony themselves offer a bundle specifically that has both versions of the game for more money, but conveniently say it has more features with extra cosmetic DLC, shows their greed in this scenario. If it wasnt a big deal then why offer both versions in one package but not the others?

The Ps4 version is $10 cheaper right now so I don't think it would make sense to offer an upgrade for free. Everyone would just buy that version over the Ps5 version. They should offer a $10 upgrade though, which they don't appear to be doing.

PS5 should also come with the PS4 version since it is $70. My 4k discs come with blu rays, digital copies and sometimes DVDs.

I don't get why they do tbh. I buy BR discs and sometimes buy those versions because they are cheaper than the standalone BR lol. But in general I buy the version of the thing for the hardware I have and understand that isn't a floating licence.

Its done so that way people will feel the inclination to upgrade to 4k. If they already have the disc and dont have to purchase anything else than the player to take advantage of their collection its a much easier ask than saying, you gotta rebuy your entire collection again.

Its not about a floating license its about being fair to your consumer. Digitally it makes for more sense as well to offer upgrade paths as it gives the consumer value to their original purchase. As technology evolves so does the consumers choice and options.

Again, not asking for anything for free but the content in Horizon Forbidden West will be identical on PS4 and PS5. One has more bells and whistles which I can understand Sony's justification for charging more, (while I think its crazy greedy I understand it) but not offering any type of upgrade path, which they have done before, but instead charging an additional $20 is gross.

Man, I can't stand this shit where you need an excel spreadsheet to keep track of which editions come with what.

Indeed, it's ridiculous. And who the fuck buys these ridiculously overpriced and ridiculous looking toys?
The number of manchildren in this world is just ... weird.

I don't get it at all, personally. I don't know what I'd do with a giant toy robot buffalo. It's all so confusing, though. So the special edition comes with an actual game disc, but the much more expensive versions come with a digital code?

I remember buying the Resistance 2 collector's edition. It was $80, so $20 more than the base game. I really liked the first game and thought I was "supporting the devs." LOL. That fucking thing just months later was in the discount rack for $20 total. In the end I had some plastic alien toy I'd never have a use for and no real idea why I bought it.

If I had the money I would buy these special editions all the time I would love to have a shelf with these dumb statues and toys on it.

The expensive edition that doesn't have a game disc is the worst not quite as bad as the new destiny 2 expansion which has a $150 version which won't even give you a digital code never mind a game disc you have to buy the game separately from that $150 you spent on their special edition for a game they don't give you.

As far as the free upgrade stuff though I saw this coming it's eventually going to be more prevalent the more easy it is to get a PS5 they expect to be able to sell a lot of PlayStation 5s before the end of the Sierra and the scheme is out in 2022 so they probably think they'll have enough of a customer base to justify it. Not sure if anyone saw that but they said they have enough materials to get to 22 million by the end of the year I think was the number. A 22 million install base hungry for new games that actually look great probably sounds good enough to them and they know impatient people who really want to play the game will get the PS4 version anyways.

But that's the thing right now Sony has the strategy that they have prestige games that are worth more whereas Microsoft is aiming for consumer friendliness and ease of access to games. Considering they both sell out entirely of their consoles every time they become available neither one of them is hurting from having different strategies.

Looking forward to this game, but it's not one I plan to pre-order. Will wait for reviews to decide how urgent it is I play. Also with delays being the trend right now, no point in giving your money til you can receive the goods.

What's nice too is the price on the PS4 version, new and/or used, could potentially dip faster than the PS5-specific version. Like it may get cheap on Ebay for a PS4 disc pretty quickly, for example.

Which is why I'm wondering if Sony is going to figure this issue out, like they're basically charging a dumb person tax on people who don't figure out what to do here. I first noticed this with the Terminator resistance game which was $10 more on PSN for the PS5 version but if you bought the PS4 version it instantly upgraded to the PS5 version so it was just a tax on being too stupid to realize this.

It's a bad look we might not like what the solution ends up being to this but there should be a solution because I'm not sure the optics are great on this.

It does say that all future titles have a $10 upgrade and that they are only giving this one away because they worded it as a promise when they thought this would be releasing during the launch window. So I guess that's the "figuring this issue out."

I'm personally just hoping they stop making all their games fucking cross-gen at some point and that this whole thing becomes moot anyway.

Oh okay I totally missed that.

They seem really confused …

PS4 + PS5 = $60
PS5 only = $70

Sony doesn't make any sense.

What happend to Sony.. yet another back track. Remember the assuredly confident Sony from the majority of the PS4 gen. I knew the tide was turning that's why I bailed along with Layden 🤣. I firmly believe the responsibility lies on Jim's shoulders. He's just a business man that dosnt know the games industry well unfortunately.

On the plus side though it means I'm getting the games on PC now, so the good out weighs the shit now I'm out of their ecosystem.

I was tempted to preorder the Collector's Edition (I have the CE of the first game) but I honestly don't know what's going to end up happening on the PS5 front; it could be another year or so before I actually own one and I don't know that I want to invest $200 in a box that gets chucked in the closet until then.

So the "Fuck your inability to find a PS5" tax is now $20, do I have that correct?

I will freely admit to thinking 'Smart Delivery's was just PR bullshit, I was thankfully wrong.

Stuff like this is them fumbling the ball but I don't understand abandoning them over it. It's all about the games for me always will be.
