Thread: Horizon Forbidden West |OT| Robots in Disguise
Official Thread
I'm just not sure how I'm feeling about this one so far. Visually, it can be incredible at times. The character models are probably the best I've ever seen. Even the performance mode (with the newest patch) looks fantastic a lot of the time. I can even live with the 30fps mode if I turn the motion blur back on to smudge out the jittery camera panning.

But...I'm fucking bored. I think maybe I've just had too much of the formula. It was like 70+ hours of the first game and a bunch of the DLC and maybe that was the limit for me. I still like fighting the robot dinosaurs. That is where the game shines. But everything surrounding it has become so off-putting to me.

The puzzles are god awful, the platforming is god awful, the dialog is boring as shit, every NPC that's important so far is a fat woman who is way too fucking cheery, etc. And I'm over here climbing Tallnecks and stuff again to the point where it feels like I'm just replaying the first game with new graphics.

That's the way it was for me too. The first game was one of my favorites last gen. The new one didn't do enough different and the story & characters are bad, so it doesn't even have that pull. Other then the graphics and some of the combat the game didn't really offer much for me.

Going into it I was expecting to want to plat the game. Around 75% through the main story I turned it on easy and just rushed through to wrap it up. Don't care enough to bother with trophies.

Haven't read or heard anything about this game. Day 1 purchase when it hits PC. I bet this will be one of the best looking games with maxed out graphics at 120fps 4K.

anyone find it weired that its basically a "diverse" future leads to living like stone age savages, while the most advance person is a white person. Not sure if thats the message but I only played the second game on PS5 cuz it came bundled.

stone age savages are strong and all these yokels ever promised us was that diversity was our strength...so I guess in a way they were right!

HZD is one of my favorite PS4 games. This game was a complete slog to play through and one of my biggest disappointments this gen. I would recommend waiting for a deep sale.

I loved HZD, was great on PS4 Pro back then. Lost all interest in playing the sequel after seeing a bunch of the characters and dialogues. Still, visually, a feast for thine eyes and will check it out on PC if the port is good.... and I get a cheap key for around 20 bucks.

Oh without a doubt the game is beautiful and would love to see on on a monster PC. And it's actually fun for a few hours. But once you get into the "open world" it's not fun.

I tried playing it the "skip the dialog and just enjoy exploring and fighting" way. And it just wasn't doing it for me at the time. They really fucked this series up IMO. I'll try again one day because maybe it was just a mood thing. I did have to come back to HZD like a year after I first attempted it.

It's just so fucking boring. It was already a little dry in the first one, but cranking the girlboss dial to 11 with the creative team behind the project really made it worse.

I will be curious how this one does compared to the first. I know the critics and Sony crowd like to praise this game but I found most people to be pretty meh about it, myself included.

Its truly one of the most disappointing sequels I have ever played. The tech is incredible. Everything else. Meh.

In hindsight...that was always Killzones problem to me as well. Flash but not a lot of substance.

I liked Aloy a lot in the first game. Everything I saw of her in the second was for the worse. But someone told me there's somewhat if an arc, with it being part of her character development over the course of the story.

Which doesn't make it that much better for me tbh.

Same. Thought the first was great and hoped that a sequel that trimmed the fat and played more to the games strengths, while expanding and refining the combat and platforming, could be even better.

Instead from the first trailer it was clear they instead took everything that slightly grated about the first game and made it the sole focus of Forbidden West, while also making Aloy completely insufferable, the world was turned laughably retarded and absolutely no attempt was made to improve the gameplay between entries.

I really hope this is a great port and bombs again. Playstation will only start getting a kick in the arse from Sony if their blatant attempts at Twitter weirdo pandering gets rejected repeatedly.

Man I'm torn as this game was such a disappointment on PS4. The game play and story both changed for the worse.

This was the coolest new franchise in a long time that seems to have hit the scrapheap by the sequel.

I thought the first one had cool ideas and looked absolutely incredible, but I think I'll pass on this sequel based off what I've heard about its content and the various impressions from players. A lot of the excitement in the original came from the mystery of the world and discovering how the things got the way they were, but it sounds like the focus with this one is more or less a bunch of DEI nonsense.

Albeit I still haven't finished it (although I'm definitely in the last 3rd) I quite enjoyed HZD so I'm interested in this, but it's definitely in the some day category versus ;'Day one' .

Cool. Game still sucked. But good that PC gamers will get to experience the boring grind that is the game post Daunt.
Exactly my thoughts.

Will be interesting to see how far PC can push the graphics and framerate but beyond that, it's crap to actually play

Will no doubt be a benchmark pc hardware reviews use for years

Given the dwindling sales of Playstation's PC ports, I wonder if this will be another like Ratchet and Clank that ends up making a loss for Sony.

I mean we know this sold significantly less than the original, it has shit word of mouth and meme level ugly characters. Does anyone seriously expect this to sell well?

Ratchet sold poorly on PS5 too. On PC it's an unknown brand and they didn't bother promoting it.

Horizon was popular on PC.

Dunno, depends on the quality of the port. PC gamers are hesitant now, after multiple Sony shit show launches like TLOU or Ratchet & Clank.

I don't think it'll sell like hot cakes. BUT I know PC gamers will get sexy non chubby Aloy inside of one week. Mod community be praised.
