Super quick question, would you tip a bicycle food delivery guy more than usual?

We ordered Hesburger for delivery, can see its a guy on a bike. We usually tip 2 euro normally but now can't decide if he deserves an extra euro

Pls help

Ps fuk u Matthew Chang

I don't tip delivery people, or anyone, unless they do a particularly excellent job and I want to express my appreciation.

I can't actually imagine any scenario where I would tip the bloke, is what I'm saying.

Euros? Where do you live in Europe that you have to tip? I only tip in the US.
It's not really thing like America but we tip fast food delivery when we get it, usually a flat 2 euro, this guy got 3 euro just because he rode a bike. There has actually been an increase in foreigners delivering food, usually pakis. We don't tip foreigners on principle.
How was the food?
Was fine, just usual fast food, was ok at the time now our stomachs are meh. Diarrhoea tomorrow is probably 50/50

Lmao!

Aren't you afraid of a loogie surprise if you don't tip?

How have you allowed yourself to get to a point where you are paying someone extra, purely out of fear that they might be mean and gross to you?

It's like you're bullying yourself.
The tip is a standard operating procedure in the states. I've heard horror stories from friends that work in the service industry and DON'T get tips.

haha, no one answered in time

I hope you gave him the correct tip, which is a baseball card and some duct tape so he can make his bike wheel sound like a really cool chopper
Actually he was super late, it was estimated 25 min delivery at first but he took over an hour. Probably fighting off all the pussy bike food delivery guys get thrown at them

See, I just don't get how you allowed this weird fear to become the norm like that.

Or how you can then all believe you'd somehow win fights with dangerous animals, when you allow institutionalised extortion out of fear of delivery boys.

... you have a point.

I just did a quick google. Apparently, your delivery guys get paid a bit better than ours do. I know ours get less than the minimum and are more dependent on tips.

Nice, it's turning into the tip debate again. I love it.

Tipping can go fuck itself. I hate it. I do it when I have to but mostly avoid any services that are tipped when I can. Pizza delivery is one of those. They charge a $4+ delivery fee, give half of that to the driver, tell you that the driver isn't getting any of that, and then make you think you have to pay his entire wage. Meanwhile, he's going home with more money per hour than some skilled laborers.

Fuck off. And don't even pretend that when I pick up a single styrofoam box of wings from Roosters that I'm going to tip the "server" 20% because she handed me the bag after I drove to the restaurant and walked up to the counter. I don't give a shit that she makes minimum wage for that pointless job and thinks I'm supposed to give her extra money just because she wore tight pants and slathered her face in clown paint.

Just curious to hear someone spell out why this is the case. Shitty job, they can use the scratch, good deed for you....why do we shy away from it in these instances? I feel it's just because of the social conventions, you never see anyone else do it and there is currently no expectation, so we don't even think about it.

No idea, I think its the fake environment of fast food restaurants. Delivery I would, an actual restaurant I would but not that artificial restaurant that McDonald's etc have.

Is that true? I didn't think they saw any of that money. This thread has opened my eyes.

Honestly, it's totally his choice to do delivery on a bicycle. If you want to donate to his car fund, go ahead.

I suppose each pizza chain will handle it differently, but I know that Papa Johns does it that way. They give half of it to the driver for every delivery. But they also pay half minimum wage for all the time the driver is marked as being "on the road" and then minimum wage for all the time he spends in the kitchen.

But if a driver leaves with 4 deliveries, that's $8 in delivery fee cash plus half minimum wage before the tips even come into play. So even if we pretend it takes an hour for him to deliver those 4 orders and return to the shop, that's $4 (half min wage) + $8 (half delivery fees)+ $12 (if each delivery was a $3 tip) and he just made $24 for that hour. For getting stoned in his car and bringing your cold mashed pizza to the porch.

So, how long ago was it that your wife ran off with the pizza delivery guy anyways?

I hate tipping culture.

I hate that I am charged a delivery fee AND I am supposed to pay another delivery fee in the form of a tip (I don't pay either because I no longer order delivery). I hate that tips are expected no matter how poor the service is. I hate that people are asked to tip BEFORE they even get service (like online credit card orders).

Look people, employers use tipping to save money for themselves. They pay less than min wage to their employees because they know you have been guilted into covering the rest of the labor cost.

It's not just on the employers though, people who work for tips are all too happy to shame people who don't tip enough. Further, people who work for tips will tell you that they make more with tips than if they made a steady hourly wage. Together these two things piss me off. They whine because they rely on tips but they make more that way than if they got a steady hourly wage (like the kitchen staff) so they really shouldn't be fuckin' whining.

My grandfather order is a bunch of food every Friday from a pizza place for everyone who wants to show up and hang. He always gives the pizza guy a $20 tip. Tipping is an important part of my family lol, I nearly always tip a little more than a normal person would just not usually at his level. One thing I noticed though is that these delivery services like GrubHub and such are trying to warp people's perception of what to tip these people because they default to a percentage tip, percentage tips are for restaurants because it's legitimately a good deal more work the more people there are to feed and keep track of for the waiter or waitress. It doesn't really make sense for a delivery guy who needs to carry an extra bag or two and only carry them on the short trips to his car and from his car. They do have the option to add a custom tip but I usually don't do it because it feels like I've been guilted into the other version.

I don't know if I agree with the idea of not tipping though, this guy brought me food while I sat on my ass it just feels fair.

Next time do what I do for a tip. After the delivery person gives me the food I recite a random Andrew Dice Clay poem to them.

"Rock a bye baby on the treetop.
Your mother's a whore I ain't your pop! Oh!"

While standing there with a baffled look on their face, I gently close the door.

I hate tipping culture.

For me, a tip is a thank you to someone who has gone above and beyond what is expected as standard in a service. Whatever the service.

The reason I hate what it has become is because the industries have now incorporated tipping into their salary calculators. They pay min or below min wages and then pass on the expectation of a decent wage to the customer. Fuck right off.

Increase the prices on the menu and pay your waiters and delivery people a decent wage, I am more than happy to support you if you do that.
Also, do not treat people like fucking children, by throwing them petty cash and a pat in the back, it is ridiculous and demeaning.

I've never been to the US (to my surprise, as I've been to about 40 countries), but if and when I go I am sure I'll be constantly pissed off with the restaurant prices. Price on the menu, then I have to do maths in my head to add tax and to add tip etc. Again, fuck off.

I'll admit, it's pretty dumb that they don't include the sales tax in the menu price by default (like, on the actual menu in the restaurant).

It's the same reason that they prefer to raise the prices via tips, lower menu prices look better. It's dishonest though.

Yea, I know. But like you said, it's dishonest. Give us the fake price in all the marketing, then the real price on the menu.

Your wife likes salami to go with her pizza 😉
She also likes it with a heaping side of Alfredo sauce.

Little known fact, SpartanN92's real name is Alfredo.

I tip in restaurants only.
Tipping is like a microtransactions in fully priced games. I could buy it if I love the game, but it's rare.

Absolutely agree with this statement. Tip should be earned, not taken for granted.
