Will you go to the theaters or just watch it on HBO MAX?

I like Skull Island more than I thought I would, haven't watched the new Godzilla films so can't really comment on their quality.

But looking at the trailer and seeing a tailor made rap song with lyrics about Godzilla and Kong and shit doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the quality of the film. But I will probably give it a shot simply for the spectacle, not expecting a good film but maybe some dumb fun. Hopefully there are a bunch of Godzilla fan favorite monsters.

It is thru HBO MAX right? I'll watch since I already have it.

That Godzilla King Of The Monsters was a shit movie tho.

Godzilla movies are top notch for testing Home Theaters. King of the Monsters was amazing on that aspect. Can't wait to check this out.

Gonna give it a watch. Expectations are low.

What would be nice if they could have the battle take place in broad daylight with no rain or anything so we can see whats going on but thats probably too much to ask for.

There's more than one battle, one is def broad daylight but the climax is at night, however from what I read the neon lights of Tokyo keep everything well lit and he frames the action so everything is discernible.

I hope so. Last 2 Godzilla's were all at night pretty annoying.

Lets see the action. We have the tech now no need to hide things in the dark anymore

I watched a leaked video of the final fight. That piqued my interest in the movie tenfold. It was fun.

Fuck Yeah i knew it!! Team Kong motherfuckerss

Is this on the high seas yet? I know one more day but I got some time to kill and could check it out early.

This is really on HBO Max? Extenuating circumstances sure, but it's pretty cool being able to watch Wonder Woman 1984, The Snyder Cut, and this, all back to back to back.

May check it out as a bored watch. Will always prefer the originals, though. My dad loved them, and I would always watch along with him when I was little.

I just watched this and it was glorious... I won't spoil much but I'll put this in spoilers all the same...

The big points...

1. Most destruction in a Monsterverse film, this is gauged by on-screen mayhem, not necessarily how much real estate on Earth was actually destroyed since King of the Monsters had all kinds of shit happen globally.

2. People keep saying there's a definitive winner and my take is... there sort of is? I'll put it this way it's confusing enough that I think the opposite happened of what John Day claims happened lol.

3. Great score by Junkie XL, good month for him

4. All the action is discernible, sometimes it gets fast and chaotic but it's framed so you can see everything

5. Most outlandish entry yet but in a totally awesome way, if you preferred this shit grounded it's not for you

6. Kong is treated like the protagonist, but I still think Godzilla fans should be happy... I mean... I am one and I'm happy

7. There are definitely characters who are meant to be humorous/wacky but they don't spend much time quipping, they're mostly just vehicles to show/explain the plot to you and occasionally help in the fighting but mostly they're there to watch.

8. It has a slow start if you're fiending for action but once it gets going it doesn't really slow down

9. Wingard made a movie for the fans but audiences starved for effects showcases should be happy

10. This next part is big spoiler
MechaGodzilla's design is interesting, not sure I love it but it works for the film and it was fun having a villain as silly as him show up, btw he does not ruin the question of who wins the fight, though I suspect some people are going to argue that x Titan was the real "Apex" because one of them shines a bit more in defeating MechaGodzilla, the truth is before MechaGodzilla shows up it's pretty clear who won between Godzilla and Kong, what happens after is kinda like an apology to that particular fanbase arguably lol

Somehow the plot got even dumber than King of Monsters and the characters even more annoying ?
The fights are incredible and the battle of Hong Kong is beautifully done but I really hate how whacky these movies got.

I loved Godzilla 2014 and none of the subsequent movies have lived up to that film for me.

I saw the two new Thumbzilla movies. Do I need to see the newer Kong movie to know what's going on in this?
Skull Island actually wasn't half bad but not even the writers of this movie had a clue what they were doing so there isn't anything really important that you missed lol it's a movie about a giant lizard and ape fighting. That part is awesome. What they try to package it in is less awesome.

as for who "won" think of it this way... The movie is Godzilla vs Kong. I think that fight had a clear winner.
Sports analogy:
If UK beats Duke and Duke beats North Carolina then North Carolina beats UK who is the real "Apex" team?

If the title of the movie was UK vs Duke then the answer is pretty clear, even if North Carolina had a part in the movie.

Okay now first of all even as a fan of Godzilla 2014 I think they keep getting better with these one of my favorite things about this was how outlandish it was.
the hollow Earth s*** is awesome
also on the topic of who won
the sports analogy doesn't work because mechagodzilla showed up after they had beaten the everliving s*** out of each other and Kong two different boosts one to bring him back to life but also gave him a bit of a boost and then Godzilla powered up his dumbass plus Godzilla was already fighting the damn thing. look it doesn't matter what happened with mechagodzilla besides it's like saying after I've ruined my hand trying to get the soda cap off and you just finish it off you were the winner I mean would you have gotten it off if I hadn't done what I've done?

I dunno, I kind of like when something goes full blown pants-on-head retarded (I liked Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom more than the first Jurassic World for that reason).

For instance, are we all just ignoring the fact that

Mechagodzilla is possessed by the ghost of King Gidorah

THAT SHIT CRAY I'm all aboard for that like sure why the hell not

Neither, I wore my eyepatch for this one. Outside of what I keep calling the "Three Stooges", the movie was fantastic. They could edit out all the scenes with Eleven, Black Alex Jones, and the fat kid from Deadpool 2 and the movie would be better. Nothing of value would have been lost and the story would remain intact.

Ok so boy or girl? I am leaning towards girl. Only half way through the movie so maybe big reveal at the end?

*I am talking about the adrgoyneus friend of the daughter of the dude from the first one*

Mostly cream cheese.

While speaking with Collider, Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard gave some slightly contradictory statements regarding an aborted post-credits scene. According to Wingard, the film came very close to having one – but then they reworked it a bit and put it in the actual body of the film. He doesn't specify what the scene is, exactly, but he first stresses that it was not intended to set up the next movie, as so many post-credits scenes do these days.

"We actually did shoot a post-credits scene but we ended up using it in the movie. Because we shot it while we were making the film and we realized we needed a scene at the end of the movie," Wingard said. "We had this footage, and we were like 'wait a minute, if we actually just change this thing about this footage we originally shot for a post-credit thing, we can actually use it in the movie.' And it's really effective. We kind of just sacrificed our post-credits scene. Which makes sense, because honestly, it's not even like that post-credits scene is teeing up anything specific. It wasn't like saying 'this is definitively where the MonsterVerse is going [next].'"

But then, weirdly enough, Wingard then contradicted himself by saying the nixed post-credits scene actually would have set a new movie up – but there was some concern about backing the MonsterVerse into a corner. "Well, I take that back, it would've done something, but it would've backed us into a corner," said the filmmaker. "I think the MonsterVerse is at a crossroads where audiences need to vote if they want to see another one of these films before they continue. I think that's a really healthy thing. We've gone through a decade or so of the rise of the universe movies, the versus movies. Obviously, Marvel does it best. But at the end of the day, I don't think these movies should imitate Marvel, necessarily. They should be their own thing. So I think it's better not to back yourself into a corner to a certain degree. It makes sense that we don't have a post-credits scene."
