Thread: God of War Ragnarok first look trailer
Just looks really dry and poe faced like the first game. It's a hack and slasher, just feel like it needs more pizazz. Finished the last one, but didn't really think it was better than 7/10.
If GoW on PS4 had more boss fights like Baldur 1, a few more dragons, and a few more mini bosses other than the trolls it would be a 🐐 contender!

That kid seems like an annoying whiny brat, and yeah enough with this stands out like sore thumb pandering. It really is the definition of tokenism at this juncture. Cringe and eye roll in equal measure. I also find it bizarre that they're all 'She's a Giant' which given it seems unlikely you're going to stove her face in, probably means your siding with them.

Devs need to stop showing us their faces.

Not sure where the "it's cross Gen" hate is coming from. Game looked gorgeous. Remember GoW 2018 on a PS4 Pro, was only 30fps when in (checkerboard) 4K. If this is 60fps and true 4K on PS5 that's a huge jump.

The new consoles are only ~2x the performance of the pro models last Gen. Gotta keep expectations in check. My only concern if this is cross Gen is how shitty it will look or run on a base PS4. Pro should be fine and PS5 will be where it's at.

Looks good and I really liked the first one so I'm sure this one will be great too.
But I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed by how similar it looks to the previous one. I'm not necessarily talking about the graphics, it's more the gameplay, locations, structure, etc all look identical to Gow 2018 but with some new skills and enemies

Him being fat fits the more accurate version of the god.
But that armor design is fucking terrible

That's what Thor looks like in the Norse mythology if I'm not mistaken

Not just fat, but dim witted and a bit of brute too. The Thor of the original Norse Myths is nothing like the Marvel Comics character or Chris Hemsworth.

As for the game itself, I too noticed it's not much of a visual leap from the first game. Obviously since it's crossgen which I think was a mistake.

I enjoyed the first game though and am interested in this sequel. Not for the visuals, nor the gameplay. But a continuation of the excellent story they began along with their interesting take on Norse mythology.

I'm willing to reserve judgment on the "token" dark-skinned girl at the end. Considering Kratos is a Greek god in the Norse world, she could just be another culture's god and it might tie into the plot in some way.

If it turns out she's supposed to be one of the Norse gods, then... Ugh...

Yeah Thor is basically a dumb brute.
Though to be fair they've also taken a lot of liberties with Loki so it's not like there was this commitment to 100% accuracy from day one.

But I think a different and more authentic take on Thor is cool. It's just....does the armor specifically need to cut out the beer belly?

My take exactly. They shown different pantheons. However, I feel it's a 'find a question to the answer' type deal.

"boob window" equivalent for dad bods.

Curious if they'll love his characterization. Thor in the myths is the very definition an overweight, beer swilling, short tempered and violent brute.

He's white and an antagonist, so the more he is portrayed as a piece of shit the better for them.

They've already confirmed she is Angrboða.
She is a frost giant and the mate of Loki in the mythology. She is the mother of Fenrir, Jörmungand and Hel

She is just black for diversity points
And black women give birth to monsters amirite?

They don't even realize they're setting themselves up to be crucified by the woke brigade.
He is never gonna be too politically uncorrect under woky balrog.
Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Cory Barlog isn't directing this one.

Not that it matters. Pretty sure there are plenty of soy people at Sony who can take his place.

They might make him somewhat politically incorrect.
I think the fact that he is a privileged white straight male that you'll eventually have to kill gives them so leeway

Feeling the same way as you, but looking at the way she is dressed and the beads and braids in her hair (yes it is a primitive thing across all cultures but even these primitive cultures had specific types of stone, colors and carvings that differentiate from each other) I'm thinking she isn't the one who is representing the Egyptian Pantheon we saw on the walls as Kratos descended into the world Serpent temple in the first game.

But we also are seeing people try and change the history of Egypt as well (Egyptians are not Nubians, either), so I'm thinking this is tokenism via a trans Heimdalll from the MCU.

I'm unreasonably super hyped for this already.

I just reinstalled 2018 on the 5 and I still think it's the best looking game I've ever seen. Good christ.

This PS4 Base also? Cuz graphics weren't blowing me away.

I remember God of War used to be the whiz bang graphical showcase game.

If you like God of War then this is your game though. Won't knock em they know how to make good games...
I'm 99% sure it's cross-gen. No inside sources, but they never said "PS5 exclusive", so.

I'll definitely get it since I liked the first one, but I have to admit I LOL'd when I saw the black girl.

God of WOKE

It's definitely cross-gen IMO, which is good because if I had to wager on it I'd say you still won't be able to walk into a store and buy a PS5 when it hits. Sony knows it still won't have a base large enough on the PS5 to support titles like this, so they have to release it on the massive PS4 base to take up the slack. PS5 shipments have completely dried up again; this generation is going to end up being so damaged partially by things outside of Sony's control and partially by their own doing.
