Thread: God of War (PC) IOTI The Cycle Ends Here
Official Thread
Couldn't play the game much since Thursday, but switched from 4k DLSS Quality to native 1440p. While it's noticably less crisp, playing at 80+ fps feels way better than around 50fps with dips.

And holy shit I just watched a video with the German dub for Kratos. It's so incredibly bad. Wow.
German Kratos... I can't even imagine it. Lol

The voice is ridiculous. Not nearly as deep as the OG version, and boy translates to "Junge", which sounds bad and not fitting at all. There's also a famous song from the German band Die Ärzte called "Junge". It's a satirical song and I immediately connect the game to it.

I avoid German dubs at all costs.

I'm at level 5 and after encountering the Valkyrie in the area with the dead giant, decided to go back to Muspelheim and tried the fire Valkyrie there. I was still totally under-leveled for her and did very little damage, but got her attack patterns down and was able to beat her after an absurdly long fight.

So much content, it's crazy. Just discovered Nilfheim and am doing runs there, a lot of fun. Completely optional like a lot in this game. Love the exploring aspect here.

It's really good however when you think about it for all the exploring your not really going in one direction much. Sometimes it feels like Kratos is just exploring the lake near his home 😅

Yeah the lake is a big part of the game, but I felt that it was far enough from his home (through the forest, some ruins, then getting the boat etc.) to feel like you're on a journey.

I've already taken notes in my head for a review regarding the level and world design, which I found the be very interesting.

I must admit I almost enjoy my PC playthrough as much as the first. I think the lake will still play a big role in the sequel (with all the different worlds blocked off etc). Does it tempt to you get a PS5 at all? Or are you happy to wait a few years for the PC release?

I'm playing this game with so much passion and intensity, doing all the optional stuff and putting in many many hours. So I'll have my fill, will be fine waiting a few years to play the sequel. Would get burned out quickly by a new one if I'd jump in near release.

Also, I can't console anymore tbh. Mods like the FoV slider and that reshade make the game so much better, I don't want to play without them. Also, 80+ fps with great visuals is feeling very nice.

True! And generally PC gamers have huge back logs because of a) cheap prices b) access to nearly everything. I'm sure the wait will fly by TBH. We've also got all Sonys past releases to look forward to and games like Horizon 2 etc that will no doubt come out before GoW 2 on PC.

Finished it! Did all the side missions, killed all the Valkyries, did the optional levels (not every challenge in Muspelheim though). Pretty great game.

Yeah, he is low key amazing.

Good work on defeating the Valkyries. I'm really interested in how they finish the Norse Saga with God of War and if they jump into the Egyptian pantheon next.

Muspelheim reminds me of what I think the bog of eternal stench must be like. The air looks like a bag of farts.

Definitely looking forward to the next chapter of the story.

Am gathering my thought for a quick review!

Game of the year so far but with Elden Ring and Starfield coming out this year I doubt it holds the title. A great game that I am glad finally came to PC. A great port as well.

It has some short comings and dumb design, overall impressively fun game. Strong contender for my GOTY this year.

After this one being too bloated for my taste, I'm kinda worried about the next game. They usually turn it up to 11 and put even more shit into it. But this was already too much STUFF for me. Hope they find a good balance and don't go full on AC with 1000 items and systems.

I have some spoiler story questions:

I was a bit confused by the shit talking from Modi and Magni regarding Atreus mother. They basically said they raped her. But at that point, did they even know she was dead? How would they know about Kratos' and Atreus' goal to spread the ashes? Did they know? Made me wonder if they might really did it a some point or what kind of history they possibly had.

I just assumed they were shit talking. They were certainly the type. I'll admit, I hadn't put much thought into it. 🤷‍♂️

Just started God of War (2005) and loving it. It's surprising how many elements are carried over, the Blades feel as good as ever. Playing at a locked 60 fps in 4K, the emulator needed a few setting adjustments to get it spot on. I'll definitely be playing all the way through this one.

New patch got released. Good to see the devs supporting it. Great game.

God of War PC Update 1.0.9 Patch Notes
New Features

Aiming and Blocking can now be configured as a toggle instead of a hold
Triple Buffering can now be enabled to reduce micro-stutters at the cost of a minor latency increase

Silent crashes will no longer occur if a GPU reports invalid memory values
Some gameplay systems will no longer cause intermittent crashes

FSR 2.0 support is great news for AMD users. Good to see the devs supporting the game like this. It was a good port already, many other devs would just abandon the game at this point.
