Troubled port so far for me.

Changing the settings in game completely fucks performance. Got dynamic res to work, setting it to 65fps, then locking my output to 60fps, worked very well after some huge initial stutters. Then at one point I just switched one setting - boom, drop to around 10fps and it never recovered, no matter the settings.

Had to restart the game, now at 60 fps again.

I know and most Sony games did get fixed some months later. The launches have been rough in general.

Just tried GoT:

I have a TV hooked up to my PC, but it's turned off. The game only recognized the turned off TV instead of my active monitor, I had to unplug the TV to make it work. Very weird. Opening scene, some great character detail. reflections and ground details are meh, but visually pleasing overall. AWESOME photo mode, like, it's incredible. My god will this eat up my time lol. Performance wise not great on my system. Definitely need to use DLSS and keep shadow detail to high, because very high and ultra tank performance like crazy. Dynamic resolution scaling doesn't work, I set it to 60 but it did 30-40 fps for some reason, while just using DLSS gave me around 60.

For the visuals at hand, performance isn't that good. But the intro scene is very busy, full of fog and alpha effects, don't know how representative that is of the rest of the game.

I'm gona wait a few months until they fix performance.

I changed settings ok on the fly. I have everything maxed, 4K, dlss quality and it hovers around 70 pretty solidly. Only very minor fluctuations. I haven't run into any issues after 1.5 hours.

Could you test it with shadow quality? That one screwed it up for me.

Played through the first hour and it's still awesome! Maxed out at 4K and DLAA, I get around 70 ~ 80 FPS. I turned on DLSS Quality and didn't notice any difference in visual quality, but am getting over 120 FPS now, so I think I'll keep this.

Still a really nice looking game considering this was originally for PS4.

I only managed to finish the introduction yesterday, and free roamed for 5 min. Game looks very atmospheric and visually pleasing with all the stuff flying around, all the vegetation moving etc. ground textures are pretty bad though, like guys, just run them through AI like modders do and upscale them at barely any performance cost, it's not that hard people do it for free.

Encountered a few lighting issues, like face lighting switching back and forth in a cutscene, or my main character suddenly having a blackface.

Other than that, game is looking good and running smoothly.

Will look to dig into it at some point this weekend. Very excited as I was hoping that it would come to PC based on the original PlayStation reveal. Still waiting to see what Digital Foundry make of it.

Did they not get a code early this time? it's peculiar that it's taking them this long.

From an artistic view, this game is in my top 5. It's fucking gorgeous

Fired it up. Very much loving the feel off it so far. Was kind of tempted to go with the B&W plus Japanese VO, English subs route from the off, but I was advised that the map can be a bit of a pig in that mode, so for now I'll stick with the Color and English VA.

Need to get better at dodging spears though. I keep pressing block/parry versus direction+B. I dare say I'll get it sussed soon, but let myself get killed needlessly on a couple of occasions due to that.

Just faced the Khan on the bridge and didn't even manage to get a couple of decent licks in on the fat bastard before he beat me silly. He has a very punchable face. I will enjoy laying him low eventually.

Do you guys feel like the camera control feels laggy and too slow? There isn't a slider for camera speed, I set it to the fastest option but it feels not responsive enough despite high fps.

It's a little slow on the turn for sure. I keep finding occasionally seeing myself from the front which makes it hard to gauge where the attacks are coming from. Also goddamn it these quest lines are long.

After I did my typical restart once I got the handling down I helped Yuna attack the small encampment only to find her brother wasn't there, so I opted to go visit the Bow Master and undertake his mission instead. I thought that would be fairly straightforward, but no there are like 9 parts to it. I mean I'm not necessarily entirely unhappy, but at the same time not a short mission. On the flip side I did manage to clear the bamboo-cutting challenge at the springs so got a bit more resolve.

Game is very cool though and I'm enjoying it a lot so far, although I do keep dying a lot despite myself. The perils of being a numb currently.

How long does it take to get to the open world part of the game? This prologue/intro is just so horribly bland and uninspiring. Feels like I'm having to walk through sludge to find the start of this game.

Not long, luckily. It does try to build up some stuff and get some mechanics across before throwing you into the open world. But it's not too much IMO.

Goddamn it there's like so much shit to unlock. I managed to learn Water Stance, which I'm trying to see the downside of versus the default stance because it wrecks everyone bigly (at least so far).

Anyway very much digging it, though my thumbs are griping about the workout they received.

Thanks. I'll stick with it then.

You want to at least do Yuna's first mission to rescue her brother to pick up some stealth abilities, but after that you can sort of do what you want. I went and started on the Bowmasters quest tree, which is not bad

Ok so I spend some time with ReShade, from scratch. Didn't like how artificial the game looked, with the strong green filter. Tested a ton of settings and combinations, but it's way better now, at least for my taste. More realistic, more detailed, more coherent, more muted colors. Of course it's a matter of taste, but I prefer the game to look a bit more gritty and down to earth.

Definitely some sort of tech fuckery going on, memory leak or something. I ended up locking the game at 60fps, very smooth and stable experience overall. But sometimes, the frame rate just takes a hit, like in that one village it dropped to the 50s. Restarted the game, perfect 60 again. Same with testing some settings back and forth, sometimes needs a restart. Tested FSR3 frame gen, and it gave me like 120fps, but then one time suddenly dropped to 80fps... restart fixed it again.

Frame gen is interesting and very fluid, but there was tearing in some cases.

Regarding the game itself, man did they do a GREAT job with the art and design. The way the animations flow, how text disappears, how your guided by the wind or the golden birds, it's all so elegant.

Again, had a sudden fps weirdness. DLSS Balanced + FSR3 frame gen at a locked 100fps, then all of the sudden frame times go nuts, around 50fps but unplayable stutter. I captured the moment it happened:

Refunded it recently, the stuttering after an hour was too troublesome. I heard some people eventually figured it may have been Malwarebytes' Web Protection, but with only 2 hour window to figure out what overlays were causing i gave up at the 1 hour 50 minute mark. I'll buy the game one day on sale but when it has stuttering issues that CAN linger post-exiting the games, no thanks!

Oh wow was it that bad for you? I had some stutter in the beginning of the game as well, but restarts fixed it. Was it a general stutter or just during traversal?

What PC specs do you have?

Holy crap this game has a lot of content. I finished Act 1, but being a completionist type I decided to clear the map on the Southern Area as so much of it was still hidden and there were a lot of '?' remaining. Took an age.

I'm loving clearing the Mongol Camps. Also, the Thowing Knives are clutch, and the 3 kills Stand Off ability is damn nice as well, though I mainly use that on the road. The main gripe is the preponderance of bandits/Mongol Patrols in areas that have been cleared, mainly because they can get in the way of progressing to a destination as it's almost like every minute or so, you're in another fight.

Also goddamn it, the flaming sword dudes in Act 2 can fuck right off. Not sure why but the rolling mechanic seems a bit iffy, which is somewhat annoying. I also unlocked the DLC Island, though based on my experience getting my shit shoved in during the unlock stage, I'm like 'I'm good for now'. I figure with that stuff, your main priority is to absolutely kill the Shamans first and foremost because they're the ones really causing you grief.

Still game is pretty sweet., and I think if anyone is fence-sitting I give it a strong recommendation already.

I absolutely recommend you do Iki Island after the main game. Although you can play through it from the start of Act 2, you'll a have much easier time with the skills you can unlock near the endgame. And it makes much more sense storywise.

Yeah I figured as much tbh, as those dudes were no joke but thanks for confirming.

Yeah. Iki Island is difficult as hell if you don't MAX out your sword stances and other skills. I don't know how far you are in the story, but there are a couple of story unlocked skills that are essential to conquer some of the more difficult enemies later in the game, especially on Iki.

Also, wanted to ask you PC bros, how are you playing the game? I imagine some of you are playing with a controller setup but can you play the game with mouse and keyboard? Just curious.

It's awesome getting to see everyone loving this game. It's pretty great. This is one of those open world games where you actually want to go do that next map checklist item because you want to do more of the awesome combat.

I loved just waltzing up to a camp of baddies, calling out one of them for a duel, decimating him, and then taking on the rest of the group simultaneously like they were bitches

Yes, but! The Black Hand Riku quest apparently gives you the best offensive armor in the game I want it....

Games where I don't have to aim, always with a controller tbh. Same here.

I'm also playing with the OG Japanese audio and English subtitles. Do you guys do that as well?

Xbox Controller all the way. Aside from a couple of Strat games or older titles I hardly ever play M&K. I spend most of the day leaning in at the PC so for gaming I like to lean back, however, I still prefer PC for the horsepower and wider variety of titles versus Console.

I'll wait and see on IK tbh. The game is so big as is I'm not sure I'll necessarily need another area once I'm done, ep given although I'm playing it in color and with English VA presently, However I kind of want to play it again with Japanese, Eng Sub and the B&W Kurosawa mode as I fricken love old B&W Samurai films.

Yeah it's a lot of fun. I just wish I could get the parry down to a fine art though. It's great when it works, but a lot of the time I miss it. I need to lean more into changing stances on the fly as well as well.

The charms system is also pretty cool, esp that you can assign different combos of them to different armors. I always need to remember to loot stuff with the everyday Armor though as that one has the extra items Charm. I wish I'd known about that shrine earlier, as I'd have made a B-Line for it from the start.

I'm also playing with the OG Japanese audio and English subtitles. Do you guys do that as well?

How is the lipsynching? I know when the game fist launched the Japanse VA didn't align very well with the faces, because the MC was done in English originally.
