Ties in with the rumour - Kimi to retire, Bottas to Alfa, Russell to Merc, Albion to Williams.
I can dig it.

I am actually going to the October Race here in Texas. The OP was very useful information to understand the current events and give more context to the races. Not hugest F1 fan (obviously) but love motorsports in general. Will be my first in person F1 race.

It's a god-awful car park that borrows its best bits from other tracks.Judging by George attitude and huge smile on his face (he told today he knows where he'll drive next year, but can't say anything), it's decided.
Austin is the great track and hosted a lot of interesting races. I always loved to drive there in simulators, it has spirit. Especially the first uphill turn and following esses. And this year is the year of close championship battle, which is a rare occurrence in modern F1. Lewis likes the track a lot, but Max should be fast there too.

My two questions are:
- Is Orlen going to abandon Alfa Romeo as a title sponsor? Seems very likely considering Kubica doesn't have a chance to return to F1 again and Orlen can become one of the 'normal' sponsors for one of the teams for way less money. If that happens - what about their budget and chances of building a competetive car?
- What about Giovinazzi? I read somewhere that he said he didn't have any contract talks yet. Don't know if it's bs or not, but maybe Alfa is going to switch their entire lineup after all.
Anyway it's going to be sad to see Kimi go even if it's the right thing to do for him.
Thanks.First, glad to see you here, man!
Kubica remains their test/simulator driver, doesn't he? Maybe it's part of the deal between the team and Orlen?
I think, Gio will stay in the team next year, but who knows. I'd like to compare him to Bottas next year.
Thanks.
I meant how much money Orlen wants to keep spending on Kubica being a test driver and having a few FP1's. Sure Orlen is a state-owned company so it makes it easier for them to spend millions on sponsorship, but ultimately it's still not a good deal. You pay a lot for being a title sponsor and "your" driver doesn't even race in the car. Robert probably got that Williams seat for a year only because the team was desperate for funding, I don't see that happening again especially after Robert's value as a driver being crushed by racing alongside George.
I absolutely love Zandvoort - a proper old school race track and they don't seem to have butchered it too much. Great fun to sim race for those of us into such things.
In terms of my own experience on the sim (albeit without the banked final curve) there's a decent amount happening into T1 as it's a nice heavy braking zone. The run down to the turn 3 hairpin doesn't offer too much though I noted Max taking quite a wide line vs what I might expect there implying the possibility of a divebomb up the inside. The sweep to 9 is gorgeous to drive but in F1 cars it'll be a nightmare to follow other cars - I do however see a decent possibility of doing something into 10 if you're not too far behind at that point (not a huge chance but a chance). The next bug chance is likely in the braking zone to 11 - taking the inside there leaves you on the outside of 12 but then you're up the inside for 13-14 drag which presents an opportunity down the back straight. The track has a nice flow and that rollercoast feel, but it still remains to be seen how it's going to be like for actual racing in F1. Hopefully it won't be a procession.
I got a good 70 hours out of F1 2020. The career mode is pretty good. But I say that as a controller only noob. I should look into getting a wheel.I'm just casual sim racer with old G25 wheel , but since trying sim racing in VR I can't play "flat" racing games anymore, it's simply not fun. I play games like Project Cars 3 and Assetto Corsa, mostly time trials on different tracks. Wanted to try F1, but lack of VR support is pushing me away from this games. Would be great to experience career mode with champagne on the podiums, post-race interviews, autograph sessions in VR, taste the life of F1 driver not only behind the wheel.
Oh damn, looks like Bobby K is back for 1 race.
Hopefully Kimi will have a speedy recovery after catching covid.

So the man cave features triple monitors and VR, plus a T300 wheel and Fanatec CSR Elite pedals. However it's also where my retro gear lives - the MiSTer, the CRT TV, the variety of old controllers, etc.Happy for Robert! Hope he'll get his share of fun on this track.
I've bumped into racing enthusiasts thread on d-pad, btw. I bet guys have separate room for their racing stuff in their house, am I right @HariSeldon?
I'd definitely like to see the driving in VR, it's not a bad sim these days, not quite iracing/rfactor/assetto corsa but solid enough. The other stuff not so much.Wanted to try F1, but lack of VR support is pushing me away from this games. The podium champagne spraying might be half fun but if you play Job Simulator or similar you'll see that weightless feel to objects in the game (because they are weightless) and really interaction is somewhat superficial. The interviews would still be picking answers from a list because computers understanding human speech isn't there yet - so the experience wouldn't differ wildly and frankly I've never seen press conferences done well - think of how shit they are in Football Manager.
Autographing would get old very very quickly. It would just look from the outside like you were wanking off a bunch of blokes or something.
Grid girls. That's something we need in VR (and in real life too for that matter).Yeah, I see now I didn't think properly expressing my wishes. Better concentrate on racing then. I think VR podium champagne would never get old though.
It's amazing on IRacing - we don't have the new banking though.Really want to try a couple of laps around the track. Turn 3 is awesome.
edit: Bottas, take off the hat, motherfucker!
