My PS5 character is around level 220 in NG+. I am thinking I will not want to play it in NG+ right off the bat. I started a fresh character on the Pc version last week and am lv60 now. Working through the Lakes. I don't think I will make it through the game quick enough in time for the expansion right away, but will try. What is everyone else doing?

How's the PC version compared to the consoles? I was thinking of picking them up on PC when the dlc comes out.

I'll start a new character and probably play a sorcerer again. I was just WAILING on dudes the whole game......except the very final boss. I could never beat that Mario world sea monster dickhead after like 40 tries. I gave up and hold my head in shame. No, really, fuck that firework shooting asshole!! I'm not bitter.

I've got an NG+ character around level 200 and a NG character around level 150. I'll probably go with my NG character who is running a pure Sorcery build.

This is what I don't quite get with the DLC. I'm either in NG+ or NG++ if that even matters so I don't know if I'm just going to make the DLC harder if I don't start over. Having put 200+ hours into this game with several play throughs I dunno I got that in me for more DLC.

I can't even remember what my character was like. Usually I go heavy into Dex. I remember I got my weapon from an assassin close by to that place with the towers that caused madness. It had some kind of special ability that was considered somewhat broken at the time.

I think I would start the game from scratch when I try the DLC. I enjoyed the game enough to do that and I think I would probably enjoy the DLC more by doing that.

PC version is solid. I haven't run into any issues. Plays well on Steamdeck too. I did fire up my PS character last night to see where I was exactly. I don't pay for PSN anymore so it disabled all the multiplayer and online stuff. That cements my new PC play through.

Honestly it's a bit of a shit situation TBH. Either I resume my early NG+ run, or start fresh. Either way I can't just access the DLC.

I am going to use my main (and only) character that I finished the game with but never started a NG+ with (specifically because I wanted to keep the character for the DLC).

Apparently the start point for the DLC is quite deep into the main game. For those of us that played through and triggered new game plus, or simply don't have a late game save , it means substantial effort to get to the new content.

Getting to Mohgwyn's palace is easy dude. You can do it relatively early in the game.

On new game + it's cake.

That's good to hear. I just checked in on my old new game plus game and I'm just past the Hogwarts area of the map, in the North. I can't recall who or where that Mohgwyn's is, but glad it isn't going to be 10's of hours to get there.

Look for Varre at the Rose Church south of the Academy Town.

Speak to him enough and agree to his terms and he will give you an item. Use it to invade people's worlds 3 times, you don't have to actually kill anyone or anything, the invasion is enough to complete the quest. Once you've done that he'll give you an item that will give you access to Mohgwyn's palace, and from there it's just a matter of killing Mohg to get access to the dlc point.

Brilliant thanks for that. No where near as bad as I suspected. I do feel slightly over powered at the moment in new game plus. It will be interesting how they have balanced this with it being in the middle of the larger game.

If you're on PC and need any help killing Mohg I'm willing to lend my aid.

I was able to get expansion ready in less then 15 hours. I was over lv100, killed Mogh and Radahn. My weapon was near maxed. I am now 20 hours in and have a maxed weapon, ash summon and am at last location of the game at lv130. Things fly by quickly when you already know where to go and where to grab stuff.

Don't know if I will ever be gud enough to reach the DLC but gonna try anyways.

Doing a fresh Str/Magic build. Got as far as the Magical Academy in first playthrough though I probably didnt get further due to fear of screwing up the side quests. Also my potato computer crashed trying to run this game over a dozen times. PS5 has yet to crash. Also was unable to find the route to Volcano Manor.

Seeing NPC icons on the map helps a lot here. I like how if something is too difficult you can just go somewhere else and still likely stumble across a new weapon or something helpful.

Getting my shit kicked in, but even exploring the base game and grabbing all sorts of weapons and gear is incredible. In Stormvail Castle right now.

Wonder if I should build around the Tree Sentinals Golden Hailbard or one of the less stat required ones like Erdtree Guardian Spear? Beat that bastard by spraying him with my blood. Until I get froststomp spraying enemies with my own blood works, but leaves me terribly exposed and with reduced health. Froststomp only needs magic.

@Zeta Dragoon You seem intimidated by the game; don't be. The first levels might be rough, sure, but you'll eventually find yourself overpowered as the game progresses, especially if you're even half-thorough in your exploration. Like you, I died a lot in Stormveil castle, but after completing Limgrave, Liurnia, Caelid and the underground stuff, it felt like playing a different game. I even went and killed Mohg, an endgame boss, even though I was still in Altus Plateau (the place after Liurnia); that's how overpowered you end up after doing everything in the game's early areas.

For skill points, make sure you level your vigor (up to 40) and put points/gear into increasing stamina, stamina regen and carry weight so you can wear decent armor (Radahn's set is excellent). You can find a phys reduction talisman in Caelid, at the bottom of Bestial Sanctum, and the Erdtree's Favour talisman in Fringefolk Hero's grave. You can get those right now (they're not guarded by bosses), and you will also find upgrades to them down the line.

Regarding the quests, stressing over them really isn't worth it, and will take away from your enjoyment of the game. Seriously, trying to get everything in 1 playthrough is a fool's errand, and will frustrate you greatly (I should know, I've done it). Besides, their rewards are usually items you won't even use, and you'll complete most of them without even trying anyway. The one quest you should definitely do is Ranni's; you can read up on it after you beat Radahn.

As for weapons, I like switching and trying new ones, but since you mentioned it, the Golden Halberd is a fine choice. Beautiful pierce/slash moveset, good range, big damage, great on horseback. Only drawback is you can't switch out its ash of war (still, Golden Vow is pretty good for bosses). It will easily carry you to the end of the game, unless you eventually opt for one of the more "broken" weapons like Rivers of Blood. Keep in mind, you will be able to respec after beating the magic academy, so you can always fool around with different builds. Oh, and make sure to keep a strike-type weapon upgraded as well, to use against hardened/stone enemies in catacombs and elsewhere who are resistant to other dmg types.

One last piece of advice: buy Margit's shackle from Patches, and use it when you suspect there might be illusory walls around - it dispels them. It also has a huge range, so if you use it once in a dungeon, it will probably clear all fake walls in it. For my playstyle, this may very well be the best item in the game, as I always think everything looks suspicious and I end up attacking walls more than enemies 💀

Level 187 dex with bloodhound fang.

Was watching some videos on Elden Ring and just found out about the greatshield talisman, which I have but never used because I immediately associated the word 'shield' with shield players. Yeah. :( Just changed my talisman set up, can't wait for the DLC.

I'm just looking for the blood of a maiden at the moment. It seems you can naturally stumble on the boss needed in the late game, but this way you can get to the DLC entrance alot quicker.

Every souls game str over everything. Ive never even attempted magic before. Stay str always and forever. 💪

I'm always like this for every game. Keep telling myself replay is for different builds, but I always stick to the same lol.

I have dabbled with magic this run and it is nice to embue weapon on tap and fire the odd long range missile though.
