D3 Publisher will release Earth Defense Force 6 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam in spring 2024, followed by Epic Games Store shortly after, the company announced.

Earth Defense Force 6 first launched for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 25, 2022 in Japan. As previously announced, Clouded Leopard Entertainment will also release the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions in Asia with English language support in 2024.

Here is an overview of the game, via D3 Publisher:

About

In the year 2025, humanity won the war against the unknown invaders known as "Primers," and peace returned to the planet. As a result of the conflict, 90 percent of Earth's population was destroyed, and civilization was on the brink of collapse. Earth Defense Force 6 picks up three years after the events of Earth Defense Force 5 in the year 2027. The survivors continue their efforts to rebuild but threats to the world's safety remain persistent. The Primers left behind many alien colonists and the two species have become increasingly hostile toward one another. The number of invasive organisms nesting in the depths of the earth and its ruins continues to increase. The Earth Defense Force is once again called upon to protect the planet from the aggressive extraterrestrial invaders and determine the true purpose of the giant ring-shaped object that has recently appeared in the sky. Will the Earth Defense Force be able to pull humanity from the edge of defeat, or will this be the species' last stand?

glad they kept couch co op.

Something I hate, though, is how the maps are all "destroyed earth" with no civilians or cars or bridges or buildings around. Felt much more like a kaiju movie with crowds running away and un-ruined buildings to destroy clear for better line of sight. I still play EDF4.1 for that reason

Fun trailer! Going to pick up on Steam

Lol at egs later, we'll see if that happens

I had so much fun playing this with buddies in splitscreen. Shit would almost crash the PS3/PS4. Get maybe 10fps.

This is a must-buy for me.

I love this series, but the game is very basic and after clocking in over a hundred hours into the franchise (mainly 4.1 and 5) I'm not sure if I'll be able to muster the enthusiasm to go throught 6 unless there are substantial quality-of-life changes, like better vehicle controls and camera, more equipment slots (I hate having to choose between greater movement speed, less stagger and item pick-up range), alien transports being destructible not just from a single weak spot, always having access to some basic type of transport (civilian cars, motorbikes).

I have never played this game, but a revamp of quality of life would bring me onboard. It's not that I haven't ever wanted to play it, it just always came off as janky to me...like each game was a generation behind when it releases.

I do see how the coop gameplay could be addictive, but a lot more polish and systems evolution would make the game something special.

Nah just play 4.1 it's great. Not janky at all

Also the graphics could be better but then they'd have to put less enemies on screen which would defeat the purpose

4.1 and 5 are pretty decent, except for the things I mentioned. The least janky by far is Iron Rain but it is also much lesser in scope and much less "Japanese cringe".

That is what Iron Rain did, much better graphics but also much smaller scope.

Honestly the only thing I think is sort of janky is when you get overwhelmed by bugs and they bounce you around, it can be a little awkward to get your bearings and looks janky.

But as long as you're playing a version with good framerate i.e. 4.1 or 5 on ps5 I don't ever think man this is janky.

Ps3 version of 4 YES that is jank city lol

Using EOS is one thing, but I am not making an Epic account just so I can play with my Steam friends, hard pass.

Walk it back with that mandatory Epic account. Shouldn't have happened in the first place. Out of touch.
