Hello and welcome to the 2nd Round of the DPAD Top Movies Face/Off series! 🥸

The two movies facing off today are:

Scarface (1983
Y2UuanBn

Groundhog Day(1993)

Groundhog Day is a simple but comfy little comedy with an interesting gimmick.

Scarface is a gangster film classic with chilling Giorgio Moroder score, peak aesthetics and most intense Pacino performance. It's clearly a winner here.

Scarface has a few great scenes that are iconic. However the film as a whole is just ok. Could have used some better editing. I really have to be in the mood to endure a complete viewing.

Groundhog Day also has lots of great scenes with many being quotable. And it's a more enjoyable viewing experience as a film. It can be enjoyed like comfort food whenever.

What is crazy, is that I think Groundhog Day has gained more prominence in the US pop cultural zeitgeist than Scarface. I hear waay more references to Groundhog Day when talking about repetition than I do anything from Scarface.

I think Groundhog Day is a great movie with a good message in it. Although is can seem a bit cheesy, it is realistic enough to be thought provoking and provide some real life lessons. The actors do well also and the little town it is set in is nice and charming. A well done movie that is worth rewatching.

I tried watching Scarface but it was just too violent for me. It does have a few good lines that are memorable, but it just isn't my cup of tea.

I love Groundhog Day but fuck me I question the tastes of some of you fuckers.

Cut ~40min out and I would have voted for Scarface. Its too long for what it is IMO and has a hard time keeping your interest/quality throughout. Its the same reason I didn't vote for Apocalypse Now. Though that one had a lame ending and Scarface had a very cool one.
