Do you feel obliged to finish a game once you started it, even if you do not enjoy it much anymore?

Interesting question to consider imo, because I have a very narrow selection of games that I'll buy. I've always knewn what interests me, what doesn't what would be fun and what would flop like 95% of the time if I had to guess. Just a very accurate sense of what was a good time according to my tastes. Usually when I buy games I would finish them post GameCube era because the games I would buy from age maybe 15 and up were based on the money I had to spend on games. The only game I bought and truly disliked was Call of Duty for the Wii, which did not interest me at all once actually placing the game disc in and playing. Dropped it that day

If I play a game that kind of has stretches where the fun factor and overall quality dips into the 4-6/10 range I do push through and play to continue the game until the credits roll

Back when I was really young and just growing up we had so many games that I only finished like 20-40% of the ones we had if I were to guess. But Wii days forward, I think I finished 99% of the games that I bought and started. The only one still waiting to be finished is Yoshi's Crafted World, but I'll hopefully get back to it after the monster that is TOTK

I feel the obligation because I had just spent money on said game, especially now that I'm on Steam there's no reselling the disc (the refund option is cool, but sometimes you don't realise the game isn't worth your time with just 2 hours of playing).

However I just overcome that feeling and flush the damn game, too little time at hand to worry about wasting money or having to finish a shitty game. I've only had this phenomenon twice now, for Alan Wake and the first BioShock. The other 65+ games I played since properly getting into PC gaming in 2022 I finished because I loved them.
