Thread: Digital Foundry Tech Review: Death Stranding 2 PS5 Pro (VFXVeteran & Regawdless, GET ITT!!!)
Looks really good and the devs made very good choices for the hardware at hand. Like John mentioned in the video multiple times, shadows and lighting could be better with RT, but keep in mind that these consoles weren't designed with RT in mind. Makes sense to go for a more simple and traditional solution to achieve the very stable performance here.

I own DS1 and am bored to tears with it. Didn't even get far. I'm definitely not going to spend on DS2 (even on PC). It's one of those great games that I just don't like.

I never really understood people discounting this opinion. DS is one fucking boring ass game. Certainly there is a lot there for people to make a game out of it and to spend a hundred hours traversing back and forth (like Snowrunner for example, which i love), but to discount people finding it utterly and mindlessly boring is just ridiculous.

And let's not get started on the ridiculousness of the "story".

But Kojima fans are like

I walked down the first mountain and when the pretentious music started, nothing happened but Kojima was already jerking off to the extreme emotions and the weight of the situation, so I immediately deleted the game.

I dunno. At this point I think most Kojima fans are aware that his stuff is not for everyone. Even in the initial reviews and player impressions for DS, folks admitted that it was definitely not a game for everyone.

Seems like people on the outside make more noise tapping on the glass than the actual Kojima fanbase. We know his stuff is goofy. We know his gameplay mechanics put a lot of people off.

IMO people like all kinds of schlock. I'll personally never understand the strong following behind Firefly/Serenity or something like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

But I guess the difference is I haven't spent decades trying to tell Buffy fans that they're wrong. Kojima's cringe really rattles some cages :ROFLMAO:

I probably would not have bought Death Stranding 1. But I borrowed it, for free, and ended up liking it way more than I thought I would. It's weird as fuck, and people can argue it's barely even a game and I won't even argue back.

But if it clicks for you, it clicks nicely. Building roads and tether systems to get around faster becomes so addicting. Clearing out camps is pretty fun too. Then there's the completely ridiculous story with a main character who stares off into space silently for most of the cutscenes because it would cost too much to do anything more with the big hollywood star Kojima is blowing this time.

The protagonist being a silent spectator in most cutscenes is an old Kojima staple, to be fair. I noticed it all the way back in MGS2, and is a thing for every game of his since. It's probably even in MGS1 if I replay it with that in mind.

Well compare the number of lines those characters had with how many lines the main character has in Ground Zeroes, MGS5, and Death Stranding. To me, there was a massive shift once he started sucking the Kiefer dick and that the main characters were way more involved before the hollywood dick sucking began.

I just checked out your post history...I'm not impressed 💅🏻

Here are a couple examples from each game before I got bored of getting more examples:

All show the player character being moreso an off-to-the-side viewer while the cutscene plays out in the center, then when it changes to codec or voice-over montages, is when you hear dialogue from the protagonist. Not unlike Kiefer, who has a dozen recorded casette tapes in MGSV where you can hear his supposedly expensive yapping. Sam being not much of a talker is also built-in to his personality and the story of the game.

It's simply his style of directing, I attribute the idea that he does it more in the recent titles to technology allowing him to do that, of show more without talking, than before. I highly doubt money is the issue here at all, not when he clearly has a blank cheque on everything else.
