About halfway though this now. Per usual with DF Retro, it's a delightful, comprehensive look at the whole subject, ranging from how Quake kickstarted 3D graphics cards, modding, online multiplayer, and licensing out engines to all the little stories and details in the creation itself.

As someone who never had any part of this, it's really cool to learn about this little bit of history.

The Saturn version was not too shabby and ran fairly well for a console FPS in that generation.

I still have it:

Developed by Lobotomy Software using the in house Slavedriver Engine that was also used for:

- Powerslave/Exhumed
- Duke Nukem 3D
- Death Tank Easter Egg

All of these titles were solid releases for the Saturn, the developers were bought by Crave Entertainment to make Caesars Palace games but never released a title and were subsequently closed down.

I was actually playing the Saturn version the other night. It's really impressive considering the console it's running on.

Saturn version of Powerslave is fantastic. Easily one of the best FPS games from that era.

He actually covers this, and a bunch of other versions in the video. It looks amazing for the time.

I remember getting the quake demo and the hack to unlock the game. I was so young and quake really pulled me into programing and gaming and lan parties. Best game ever. I met so many people offline from quakespy and icq.
