Thread: Dead Space Remake |OT| Entering Xaero Gravity

A ton of shockingly bad textures around, really hurting the visuals. The lighting would look so much better if it would interact with more detailed environments. And that's PC maxed. Consoles have even worse textures? Very weird for a current gen only game.

That said the game still looks good overall. Would post screenshots but taken with HDR on an OLED they translate like shit to SDR.

And, resuming your game from the main menu is instant and with a seemless transition:

It's a good thing I don't work with game devs or texture artists. I'd be like an old nun at a catholic school, silently stalking the halls and workspaces, a yardstick in each hand. The first fucker I caught reducing their texture quality would be damn lucky to ever use their hands again.

This is exactly what I wanted from a remake. I've jumped more times in the first 90 minutes than I did with Callisto…. To be honest I never jumped playing Callisto.

Sound design is incredible and I remember it being one of my favorite things about the original. Glad that they nailed.

One gripe…. Shit is way to easy. I am playing on hard and it feels like normal….I rarely die. I couldn't imagine what normal mode is like.

Yeah I got hit once in my 2.5h playtime so far. Also, so much ammo around, they could honestly just give you unlimited Plasma Cutter ammo, would be the same.

Just smoked a fat Jay and I am about go play.

What's the best weapon so far? I'm really digging the pistol? I don't really use the machine gun.

I put some upgrades into the Plasma Cutter and like it way more than the machine gun. The machine gun and it's alternative fire mode (the mine) can be more effective when you get rushed by multiple enemies. But I managed situations like that just fine with the Plasma Cutter as well.

There will be better weapons later though.

looks kinda dingy

Not a huge deal but a bit tiring that they had to force the woke agenda into this. Seconds into the game, the main chick of course has to reveal that she has a girlfriend. Making her a lesbian serves no other purpose, doesn't add anything to the character (edit: her sexuality wasn't mentioned in the original) and it's just a dumb "HEY LOOK I'M GAAAAY!!!" directly in the intro.

Text log about a chick and again, her girlfriend, wanting to leave but can't. All gender bathrooms on the Ishimura. Posters all over the place got updated, apparently half of the people on the Ishimura are Black now.

It's just .... Tiring. People actively working on changing already existing characters and worlds just to virtue signal and push their agenda. Severe eye rolling takes me out of the immersion at times.

It's current year. Can't have Isaac and Nicole hetero relationship without balancing it out with the homo.

In fact, we didn't know whether the crew mate was gay or not, it wasn't important enough for the devs to tell us, but again, in the remake, we needed to know.

Oh and they also made the main women less attractive regarding looks and clothing. Like the chick from the intro, she had nice curves and was attractive in the original, but got downgraded. Isaac became an ugly dude as well.

Like, ok make him ugly, sure. But then please make Nicole a fucking hot 10/10, to make it believable that he's even searching for her surrounded by absolute horror and chaos lol.

So this is heavier to run than Forspoken. Where is the hate then ?! Let's be fair right?!
Bunch of dark corridors that run barely 60-70fps on 4090 ?! Doesn't look as good as remake should. Look at Demons Souls.
Not even close to Callisto.

Ok I am trolling here but it's just showing the fucked up subjective standards people have.

I will get it once the price drops a bit 70 is too much for this remake for me

I see where you're coming from. And to be honest, Demons Souls looks better than this game.

Issue with Forspoken is that we have other way better looking open world games. I mean, look at Metro Exodus featuring RTGI and even running better than Forspoken. It's just not great visually and then not even performing well.

Either way, back to Dead Space: it flows really great, like everything you do feels right and as fluid as my gender. Especially when comparing it to Callisto, Dead Space makes it easy to get into the flow. Callisto has many little things that stick out, here it's extremely polished. But I feel like this remake got too mainstreamed. Even on hard it's too easy.

Yeah fuck that. I spend $1600 on a card it better dole out virtual BJs AND run everything flawlessly.

I kinda don't understand the initial sentiment. It's absolutely and only up to the developers if you can max out their games with the currently best card available. They could put pure path tracing into an open world game, all kinds of highly complex physics and no PC could max it out for the next 15 years.

The best GPU on the market simply gives you the best experience for the time being. The whole "maxed out" debate doesn't make any sense.

Price vs performance, sure, that's a worthy debate and the current GPU situation sucks.

All that is fine and good, but if I spent $1600 to play a game, it better run that shit flawlessly.

It's on the game though, not the card in such a case. Or tone down some settings tbh.
So why are they releasing $1600 cards? I mean, I get it -- people buy them, so maybe the market is just silly. Why buy that kind of card if you know nothing is going to take advantage of it?

So I'm pretty pissed…. I lost my game save. I saved in a room with an enemy and right after I saved I got killed. For some reason this created a death loop were I would constantly load in to a death animation. The fucked thing is I wasn't able to select any of my previous saves or get back to a main menu. I uninstalled and reinstalled…. Did everything possible and I couldn't get around it.

I just nuked my save data and I am starting over. Luckily the game is fucking brilliant or I would be even more pissed.

I guess my advice is to be careful before you save.

So, make multiple saves
This ain't my first rodeo. I had multiple backups which is standard for me in any survival horror. The thing is that when I launched the game I was never able to select one. It would always dump me back into a death animation…. No main menu or nothing. I think I found a game breaking glitch….. it'd probably extremely rare. The timing was like perfect.

Oh fugg.

Alien Swarm (2010) by Valve also had a version of L4D's type of Director in their game as well. I'm glad that not every upgrade in hardware is dedicated to graphics and level sizes. Adding systems that work in the background, modifying an changing up the play space is just plain neat. It is why I still play State of Decay 2, limited as that game is the systems make the game better than it should be.
Similar systems existed back in the early 90s - Gods by Bitmap Brothers was a combat platform game and it adjusted the action depending on how the player was doing, what they were good or bad at etc.

It's an underused mechanic, to be sure. In my humble opinion, it would make games better like we have seen RPG elements being added to every game in the modern era, that being weapons and gear augmenting stats, actual stats to build up on your character and perks/spells/combo abilities etc... Kind of like a contstrained rogue-like mechanic that doesn't change the actual game envisioned by the devs, but an extra chefs-kiss spice to areas to keep things interesting.

Couple of hours in on Steam Deck, and this is really not optimised at all well for it. After a bit of fiddling, I'm happiest with dynamic 800p, FSR2, 30fps at medium settings, but the frame rate is getting drops still seemingly at random

There's also a bug that crashes the game if you try to move the map around, so hopefully that gets fixed soon.

Weirdly though the game seemed to be having rhe worst time early on, with a couple of hard crashes that required a system reboot in the first lift, until I jammed Isaac on a corner so as little as possible was happening on screen.

But since then, almost no stutters, mostly locked 30fps, decent image quality throughout. Evening the start up EA splash page that froze the first time it loaded is smooth now.

Hopefully this gets some patches and SD optimised updates ASAP, as it absolutely seems to be a problem with the software, not hardware.

One last thing is that having rhe option for gyro aiming makes combat a hell of a lot better. Quickly and accurately blowing off limbs is so much easier without having to rely on sticks.

Overall though the game is fantastic, although year, the obvious pandering to modern audiences of twitter weirdoes is ham-fisted and breaks immersion, but the core game is still as good as ever.

After reading this back I realized my initial message looked hostile. To clarify, what I meant to say essentially was: "What you're saying is, I should make multiple saves then?"

Smoochie

I don't understand. A 4090 is by far the fastest card and gives you basically a linear money to performance increase from last gen. You pay an obscene amount of money, but it also delivers insane performance compared to the other cards. Games take advantage of it because you can get the best visuals and performance on the market, by far.

Just because some games are badly optimized or extremely demanding, doesn't mean the card isn't still way faster than anything else on the market and still gives you by far the best experience. Not worth that much money for me personally, but that doesn't change anything.

Again, tech can be pushed further than any hardware can render. You can do extremely impressive fluid rendering that would need a dozen 4090 to render it in real time. If I throw a game like that on the market, does that make the card worse because it can't run my game? Or the other way around, if all devs agree to only do OG Pong visuals, would we praise a Matrox G200 because it can run it maxed out? That narrative and logic doesn't make any sense to me.

I left it on normal and speed ran this shit. I'm past where I was.

I am so surprised by how different this is than the original. I truly is a remake of the serious.
