I whole-heartedly welcome a return to a just-above-goofy-level of witty banter, silly humour, intrigue and mild jeopardy type of movie content.

However..

From that trailer, the script is seriously lacking.
John Hamm is a watchable and capable actor, but he is miscast for this role. It needs a comedian that can act, not an actor that can.. um.. crack a joke.
Also, the last line of that trailer is not the zinger it thinks it is.

There's also a glaring absence of this:

I recently bought some of the original Gregory McDonald books and it was fascinating to read them and see how they differ from the movies. Chevy Chase plays the films a bit like a series of SNL slapstick skits but the books are a bit darker and serious with more subtle comedy. Fletch sleeps with a 15year old girl in the first book but that doesn't make the film for example.

Chevy Chase is one of my favourite comedian/actors of that generation and i love his version of Fletch. The first film is an absolute classic that I have watched multiple times and even the sequel was great for the time. Although i feel it hasn't aged as well as the first, i also don't think 'Fletch Lives' it's based on any of the books but i could be wrong...

Whilst that trailer wasn't the fletch were used too, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. John Hamm is a great actor and it will be interesting to see if this is more faithful to the source material?

I think it could work out ok. I like Hamm as an actor and he's done a fair amount of comedy./ I do question the inclusion of John Slattery as his boss though as albeit he's a good actor as well, the existing association they have with Mad Men is probably more a negative versus a positive,

At least Jon Hamm won't piss off his costars like Chevy Chase did with regularity.

I never watched the Fletch movies or read the books. So I can't really judge whether it's doing justice to the material. I did like the trailer and I think Jon Hamm is pretty good in the stuff I've watched him in. Not going to rush to watch it in a theater. I'll wait when it hits streaming.

Watched this the other day, it's a drier more subtle kind of humour compared to chevy chase's version of Fletch. John Hamm gives a good performance and overall it was watchable if nothing amazing.

There's some lazy comedy though which could be considered 'woke' . Black man says the usual lines about getting shot by police, white privilege gets a mention of course and other subtle modern digs at white people not in the books. It was just eye rolling stuff but expected these days.

I saw it the other day as well. TBH I quite enjoyed it, although I think it was a mistake to put John Slattery in there, not because he's a bad actor, but more that there's too much association with him and Hamm and Mad Men and I found it a little jarring. Still overall entertaining and I wouldn't be opposed to more Hamm as Fletch.
