It's a little different. Not as hot. It grounds down to be a bit finer than black pepper.

KFC in Australia used to come with little packets of white pepper, so I like it with fried chicken.

I googled it once and apparently it was the favorite spice combination of some king then became the standard

Seasoned/Seasoning Salt is pretty underrated too. Great for rice, potatoes, meats. I like to put it in my sour cream for perogies as well.

Black Pepper is money. I use it and Crushed Red Pepper on just about everything. With a good piece of meat all you need is some salt/Pepper.
