Now here's a game that could really use a remake.

I'm not a fan of remaking games usually. There are very few times I think a game should get a remake. The original Blood Omen is an example of one game that could use it, while being a fantastic game, has aged poorly.

I'm on the fence regarding Betrayal of Krondor. I'm the only person in existence that actually likes Return to Krondor even more.

While Betrayal is a classic game, it has aged somewhat poorly. It's manageable but I think a "slight remake" could work to it's advantage.

Okay that aside....

The Riftwar Saga is ripe for NEW games set in that world. Games based off some of the books or entirely new stories in Triagia.

I say developers need to tap into this world. With today's gaming, one could have an incredible experience.

The Riftwar Saga is in my long list of "why isn't there more games for this" because, well, why not?

I got Betrayal at Krondor as a gift when I was a kid, probably back in 1995, but I could never get it to run properly on my system. I loved reading that manual, though 😅

I've been tempted to pick it up on GOG for some closure after all of these years, but I doubt it held up very well at all.

Yeah it's pretty much a late 80s Elder Scrolls but with novel lengths of writing that could probably put a Trails game to shame.

If you buy it on GOG, I think they give you Betrayal in Antara with it for free as well.

Edit: yeah they do but just keep in mind it has nothing to do with Krondor.

Fwiw there's a new game in the works that is a spiritual successor to Betrayal at Krondor.

Retro RPG for fans of the classic Betrayal at Krondor is coming

Perhaps someone will remember the 1993 RPG Betrayal at Krondor. The epic RPG heavyweight was based on the novels of fantasy author Raymond E. Feist and mixed 3D exploration with 2D characters and tactical round-robin battles, as well as lots of text in an exciting story. If you want to experience a game of this kind again, you can take a look at Call of Saregnar .

The gameplay is very similar to Betrayal at Krondor. You move with an adventure group through a landscape that consists of 3D and 2D objects. If you meet NPCs, there will be conversations in which you will either receive quests or hints. The fights take place in rounds and you have to act very tactically, for example to use spells of different intensities or to defeat opponents via close and long-range combat.

You can read the rest on the site.

I loved Betrayal as a kid. It was amazing. A lot of those old 80s/90s PC RPGs would be ripe for a "remake" if only to bring forward the stories and world-building. The writing in those games was better than 90% of what we get today, because the assumed audience back then was adult fantasy-junkies, whereas the assumed audience now is Game of Thrones fans and weebs.
