I'm gonna go with GC just because it was such a huge relief being able to play games at a solid 480p/30-60fps when coming from the blurry 240p/unstable 30fps of the N64 (or it was 25 fps in Europe? That would certainly explain why it felt like shit). The games were not as revolutionary as on previous Nintendo consoles but there were plenty of gems.

I have some great memories from the NES but I haven't played it in so long, I don't know if the games are fun today.

SNES would probably have been my choice had I owned it at the time. But I didn't.

At the end of the GC's life I probably would have said SNES or N64, but with 2022 hindsight, I think the GC is maybe the best of the bunch. They made some good decisions when it comes to art-direction and framerate in that gen which means the majority of the library holds up really well today, especially compared to PS2. N64 has aged terribly overall. SNES is still great.

Tough decision between GC and N64 since I grew up with both. Maybe the a slight edge to GC due to an overall stronger lineup of exclusives and multiplats. Especially from Capcom and Sega. SNES was a bit before my time and i'm only starting to explore its library, but the games i've played look great with all the special chip effects.

Going with the N64 because I had the most fun with that system and its games

The Gamecube could have been a better time though were I not such a dumbass though. I had it made, a lot of games, had the GBA adapter so I could play GBA games on the big screen. But for some reason sold all of that and many games in my collection even… Well, the Gamecube is definitely close, but not quite as good as the N64 to me

NES for me. Good library of original games, and if you go back to the arcade version of your favorite NES ports (since a lot of kids didn't play those games in their local arcades, we didn't all grow up in dystopian Los Angeles) it's like a free facelift. The input precision is still a standard for console gaming decades later.

SNES for sure. The SNES was the pinnacle of 2D gaming. RPG's, platformers, puzzle games, etc... Standards were set on the SNES that are with us today. Some standards that could have been done on the NES but usually weren't.
For example, RPG's that didn't require you to choose 'Search' to open a chest or 'Stairs/Door' to use stairs and doors. These things make it hard to go back to some NES RPG's. Sadly, the Dragon Quest series was still doing that nonsense on the Super Famicom but eventually they came out of it. Earthbound doing it in 1994 was just....stupid.

SNES had SMW, LttP and Super Metroid, all games you can make a solid case for the best of their respective series and GOAT. On top of that, you had the golden age of JRPGs. Throw in a bunch of other various classics (Contra 3, Castlevania 4, Demons Crest, Turtles In Time etc...) and it's a pretty easy choice.

I picked N64 so far, but I dunno...NES was a massive part of my childhood. I started playing it when I was like 5 years old. We even had an Atari 2600 which I loved too, but more as a novelty as the NES was such better hardware and a "grander" experience.

We didn't get a SNES (got a Genesis). So I never got to experience that one in my own house when it was new. And then the N64 was kinda mind blowing for its time.

One thing that I have recently realized is that the N64 library is pretty bad. Looking at the N64 games on NSO, very few are worth playing and even fewer good games are left to be put on there. I can see why Nintendo didn't make an N64 mini and why they were reluctant to add N64 games to NSO. The library just isn't very good.

I still have about 40 games in my SNES collection downsairs, all bangers. Hmm, maybe I'll change my vote, because even though I still really like the NES, it's a difficult system to play nowadays and maintain working hardware. SNES is a more accessible version of what the NES was trying to do.

That's no lie, but times were also so different back then. Getting that one major game that calendar year to supplement other average releases still felt so significant back then. And if you had to wait for your parents to agree to buying you some $70 cartridge-based game...good fucking luck. Even a sparse library of the best gems you could find over the course of years felt bigger than what our expectations have us thinking about today IMO.

Super Mario 64 was mind blowing in 1996 and I loved it. Mario Kat 64 was also a game I spent countless hours playing. For it's time N64 was great but looking back on it, it just doesn't hold a candle to the SNES (or the NES). Gamecube was better than the N64 but even then, only a few gems that I go back to. Tales of Symphonia is still superior on the Gamecube. Paper Mario TTYD can still only be played on the Gamecube.

N64 had a small number of good games. Most of the library was garbage though. Didn't like the GC library either. NES had a lot of classics. SNES did everything the NES did, but better so I voted SNES.

I also want to mention that I consider the SNES to have a superior JRPG library than the PS1. The PS1 is when JRPG's started getting bloated (and also cd loading times). Makes it hard to go back to them.

SNES

As an arcade rat growing up the days Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, and Killer Instinct became home ports were a thing of childhood dreams

As I grew up I also grew into the JRPG Genre

SNES offered so fucking much

Gamecube master race. Nintendo at their most innovative and strange. First person metroid. Luigi launch title. Cel shaded zelda. Donkey Kong. Dual driver mario kart.

Thing even played GBA, GBC and GB games

SNES had them JRPGs though 🤔
SNES also played Game Boy games.

Gamecube was truly a great console. I never followed numbers, so it was a genuine surprise to me when I found out that the Gamecube was considered something of a failure, much like the Wii U

It was shocking because there was a lot offered and done well w/ the GCN. But apparently it never blew up and only until the Wii arrived would we see a craze again for a Nintendo console

The N64 has the disadvantage of all of its best games having vastly superior sequels readily available on the current console. For the most part, why am I going to play Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time when I can play something superior to it somewhere else? I would much rather get the 3DS ports of the N64 Zeldas, for instance. I'll sooner play Smash Bros. Ultimate or Mario Kart 8D. It really can't be helped, either, because the N64 was immediately surpassed by the GameCube in every conceivable way.

Nintendo had a massive marketing and image problem with the GameCube much like it did with the Wii U. The difference was that the Wii U was misunderstood while the GameCube was perceived as an 8 and under kid console, and Nintendo thought it was a good thing they had that image. lol

I have a lot of fondness for the SNES and the Gamecube. I really enjoyed my Gamecube because it had some of the very best games ever made. Even today, I still feel that SSBM is superior to every other Smash game. I logged so many hours playing it single player as well as multiplayer. I will never forget experiencing Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, and Wind Waker as they were such a leap in terms of experience and visually.

However, one is not like the other. Super Nintendo was a one stop shop for every game conceivable during its time. Thanks to the flexibility of the technology in that thing, there is such a huge amount of progress in the graphics of games ranging from 1991 all the way to like 1997 from Super Mario World all the way to Street Fighter Alpha 2. The latter of those two games shouldn't even be possible on SNES and yet there it is. SNES was a console that would literally stave off the PS1 for more than a year after its launch by continuing to deliver games that were graphical showcases.

The great thing about SNES games is that many of them are still among the best 2D games ever made. A person sitting down to play Yoshi's Island is going to feel like they're playing a game that released recently. The game is literally ageless thanks to an art style that works very well today plus a bevvy of 3D effects and objects that make it look very modern.

SNES has every kind of game. It easily has dozens of baseball and American football titles. It has over a dozen fishing games. It has dozens of racing games and fighting games. It has multiple Sim City titles. It has Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. And on and on. There are so many games for SNES that are all still perfectly playable. It easily gets my vote.

Even though the NES and SNES crush the libraries of the other two, I have a real fondness for the Gamecube and its high points (Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Super Mario Sunshine- yeah I said it, REmake, Animal Crossing, etc.) elevate it to my favorite of those choices. *I may prefer the Wii U over every Nintendo console though.

And it was adorable AND indestructible.

I still have 2. (one sealed)

One thing I can say for sure is that, despite a handful of excellent titles, it is *NOT* the N64. Worst console from Ninty by a long shot for me.

You have a sealed Gamecube? DAMN!!

And PS2 slim too. (Although that's probably not worth too much, I suppose.)

Edit: Toys R Us was having a sale for $49 with a big bin of Cubes back in the day. I figured I'd get a backup at that price. I don't know why I didn't pick up a handful. I should have.

N64 had the best games. It's the only retro console I still play all the time. SNES was good too, but doesn't have as many games I like to play as N64. Gamecube as a result was a huge let down, and Nintendo titles were weaker than their 64 counterparts, and the loss of Rare. Rare did make the best GC Zelda though.

NES is largely unplayable for me anymore. Most of the games just weren't fun.

Nintendo had a massive marketing and image problem with the GameCube much like it did with the Wii U. The difference was that the Wii U was misunderstood while the GameCube was perceived as an 8 and under kid console, and Nintendo thought it was a good thing they had that image. lol

Nintendo actually tried to change that around 2003-2004 with period correct cringe edgy teen marketing, but it was too late.

If it's platformers, first person and third person games n64 is ace, with banjo kazooie mario 64 goldeneye perfect dark zelda OoT zelda majora's mask.

But I'm an rpg gamer and snes is tops on that, it also introduced one of the best metroidvania's with super metroid, and had the excellent shooter contra iii alien wars.

You can't go wrong with either the SNES or GameCube. Personally, I really like the console design and controller for the GameCube as well as how small the discs were compared to PS2 and Xbox. Skies of Arcadia Legends and Resident Evil 4 are my two most favorite games for it. Super Smash Bros. Melee was a great sequel and fun to play with friends too. As for Mario games, I did have more fun with Super Mario World and All-Stars on SNES than Super Mario Sunshine.
