Thread: Atlas Fallen [OT] - I Hate Sand. It Gets Everywhere
I agree with the 360 era bioware, which was when they were truly making great things, not this shitty Mass Effect 2 and 3 with awful everything. MA 1 was amazing, the combat was great, even driving in the vehicle was good.

I miss when PB made Gothic series instead of that other shitty series Risen and Elex they became obsessed with, Gothic series was actually good at least 1 and 2, it felt like a big open world that you wanted to explore.

We need 360 era Bioware, BIG WORLDS enter random buildings, worlds that feel alive, and that have tons of useless shit.

We do have Baldur's Gate 3, which is the PERFECT evolution of Dragon Age and many older RPGs. There's so much side content, so many dead ends that have great loot. Loot actually matters, so does leveling choices, and even dialog choices are worthwhile.

doesn't seem like the train is slowing down, either. Greedfall 2 and Owlcat's Rogue Trader are coming soon. Diablo 4 and PoE2 will breathe life into that side of the genre, and BG3 will inspire even more devs to take a stab at this type of RPG. No disrespect to Larian, but if they can pull off a game like BG3 it's an inditement on all these overpaid lazy AAA devs.

I liked the two Divine/Beyond Divinity games, played those on PC in their day. Larian tackling an action RPG again with all the interactivity of their turn based games would be sweet.

I agree, except Diablo 4 isn't helping shit, it's hurting way worse, it's growing an audience that thinks Diablo 4 is a good game, when it's a mindless cookie clicker that needlessly breaks down stores and other bullshit for the loot grind into multiple bland faceless NPCs, when it should have gone back to Deckard Cain, fuck they could have made him a zombie or even used one of his off spring and just made a joke that the person is teleporting to every city.

Diablo 4 even though it's got an OKish story lacks real character and even though the world is big, because of the real lack of meaningful things to do in it makes that big world seem pointless, it's just a longer stretch you need to traverse to get back to the cookie clicking.

Also in Diablo 4 loot is meaningless, there's no stories of legendary weapons and if there is, you'll find a something that makes that thing look like shit in your next world tier. When there's too much loot, nothing matters.

Diablo 2 did a great job of having locations and a world that made sense.

I'll give more in depth impressions but so far: the combat is slick. The basics are all well done, with a lot of combos given to the player right away. The whip is an effective gap-closer or gap-maker. Aerial combat gives generous air-time to make your combos and zip between multiple enemies. The momentum gauge makes your weapons larger which wasn't something I caught in previews. This is aside from all the Essence stones and extra attack abilities, so the fact that they give the player so much combat flexibility from the start is nice. I can freely strike back and forth between multiple enemies without it feeling like Batman Arkham series.

Game clips along at a brisk pace. Story is simple and charming, mostly fleshed out by the NPC dialogue. Within 30m I got sand surfing and in the first hour I'd already found my first small town, upgraded some of my gear including a slick armor set, and upgraded the Air dash. It gets to the action pretty quick.

it's not a main reason I play these action games, but I am impressed so far with the amount of NPC dialogue, side quests, and ambient conversations. The male and female main character voices and the Gauntlet voice are easy on the ears. Not an insane amount of voice acting and not the best voiceovers of all time, but still above average for the genre

I put about 5 hours into this and well… Im really enjoying this. The combat feels great, the world design is interesting, and the vocals are passable at worst.

The graphics are range from "so so" to "great". The sand particles ,deformation, mist, and dust are excellent, while a few rock textures can be average. Overall, very solid looking.

The combat feels like a mix between the old school God of War mixed in with the old ps2 Rygar game. The open world platforming feels natural making you use some thought as how to get to a location without it being too obvious.

The game feels like it sits in between Forspoken and Horizon, just without the modern cringe.

The only real complaint I have is the sound mix feels a bit off. Some effects are softer than they should be while softer sounds are a bit too loud.
This could be due to my audio setup though.

Overall I'm glad a bought this. I know a lot of games are releasing in this time frame , but I say to give this a shot when you're in the market for something new.

How are the settlements, towns hubs ect?

Upgrade all armors! Even if you don't care to wear it, each upgrade gives you 1 Perk points which give permanent non-armor upgrades (that remain if you change the set to something else).

I like how waypoints, markers, and "gauntlet vision" work. I finished a quest in the old Bastengar Shattered Keep where you have to find pieces of history, and the five waypoints only give a general area where the pieces are found, not the exact spot. Initially I thought something had bugged and an item didn't spawn, but I looked nearby (out of sight) and found it. The armor reward is the Scout armor worn by the guy on the cover, kinda neat.

Upgrading stuff is much more fleshed out than the avg action game, and the game doesn't punishing you for experimentation. Armor dyes and transmog is available from the start. Mentioned above, but upgrading armor also gives Perk points and Perks can be reset and reassigned at any time for no cost. And each of the Essence Stones can be upgraded.

Out of the three weapons, Whip is my favorite to use as an all purpose weapon, zipping back and forth between enemies. Knuckleduster has the coolest looking Shatter ability imo and is generally a lot of fun doing close range punching. hammeraxe is probably gonna end up being my main, it's

Parrying is a major part of the game. Not optional. Just learn it and abuse it, the game is a ton of fun when you get the timing down. The enemies are fairly aggressive. The red and blue flashes and indicators before attacks makes it easy to control the flow of battle even with offscreen opponents.

The only real complaint I have is the sound mix feels a bit off. Some effects are softer than they should be while softer sounds are a bit too loud.

Nah it's not just you. I've had a few sound glitches and balancing issues as well. The first line of a short dialogue cut off (but still showed the subtitle). A few times I've had villager banter overlap with the talking of the gauntlet or a named NPC.

Game sounds perfect on headphones though.

I'm still sinkin my time in, when I get the chance. It's easy to pick up, get back into it, complete a few objectives, and then take a break. The story progresses like an action movie, with very little required exposition but a lot of little conversations and journal entries on the side to flesh out the world. I don't think the story is great, but it definitely doesn't get in the way, and it clips along at a fast pace.

It's not a "flaw" per se, but they really give you too many weapons and options. It's too easy to get stuck in a certain combat style and to ignore 95 percent of the other Essence Stones. So, filling out all three of my weapon presets with different main weapons and different Essence setups helped to get me into the groove of fiddling with powers and trying different things out. Combat can swing between surprisingly tough and a cakewalk depending on your setup and the enemies.

I'd recommend it for anyone who likes these quickly-forgotten B-tier sort of games

You know the dev regrets their price point and sales aren't meeting expectations due to that, and TIMING when they put the game on sale for 30% this quickly.

Checking out the discussion, the devs have put out a single patch and have gone silent otherwise.

I believe a 39.99 or even 34.99 initial price point would've been right here. They tried to sell it with great trailers, kudos to the marketing people tbh. But the game was clearly a B tier budget one and should've been sold like that.
