Same vibe as Kinect TBH.

All this shit is just a less intuitive alternative to your phone, but you also look retarded using it.

Add in the danger factor, and I'm genuinely wondering how long it'll be before Apple gets sued due to the obviously foreseeable consequences of this.

What danger? Pass thru is damn near perfect. Also it won't work while moving.

Apple has changed the game and everyone is hating like every time their first gen product drops. I say this as someone who uses windows over mac.

My wider problem with the actual device isn't the device itself. Rather the cult of Apple that pop up when a device which has been on the market, albeit not in this particular form factor/package, is now a "game-changer" or "revolution" due to the fact it's an Apple device. It's a VR headset with best-in-class passthrough.

The headset itself, looks fantastic and I do hope this can help to lift the entire market from niche enthusiast/hobbyist product to a more mainstream audience. I wonder what their strategy is for a worldwide launch.

The obvious one is having a fuck huge screen in front of your vision while out and about, such as on a train, preventing you seeing something dangerous, like other humans that will see you as something fun to mess with or obviously wealth enough to be worth mugging, but I also don't trust the tech to not go wrong periodically, because I own Apple devices, and that is insanely dangerous when we're talking about something covering your eyes, that isn't even out yet, and people are already wearing while operating vehicles.

I mean if you check my post in here I said pass through for welding and other things is going to be a game changer. Good on apple for showing how.

FYI- it came out Friday in the states.

That makes says. The pass through could glitch out and cause users to not be able to see.

I assume the immersion setting won't work when moving the same way it won't display windows when moving.

Eh, I find it rather jarring how long it takes to update the brightness in the virtual space. It IS kinda nice that the object changes, but there's room for improvement.

On the plus side, I see a real driver for VR/AR with this thing. And the other companies in this space, especially Meta need to step up their game a bit it seems.

On the minus side: Apple tards being Apple tards.

People still wont want to wear something on their head for extended periods of time. All that stuff is cool but i would rather have my phone laptop and TV so I dont need something strapped to my head.

These companies need to target children and basically make the next gen used to walking around with VR headsets. It will be tough to convince adults but if you hook kids then it will just be the norm.in the future.

Yeah for sure. They still need to streamline the design. The day something like this looks like the rayban meta glasses will be the days we no longer use our phones. Or we will just have chips in the brain by then lol.

People don't want to carry arround stuff in their pockets either, but the value proposition makes them do it. VR/AR still doesn't have enough value to convince people to wear headsets, so that's the issue. Although we're talking about 2 different markets: For VR, headsets are fine as is, lacking software is the problem. For Hybrid/AR-functionality, hardware will be a problem until headsets are no more obtrusive than stylish glasses.

This is true. I could see the hype on this dying out just like all the other headsets. This does have the app store to fall back on which has tons of apps. They still need their kill AR app though which currently does not exist.

btw something i've never seen ANY vr-headset do: multiplayer/multi-person. Is there any headset that detects other headset-wearers and appropriately welcomes them into the same VR-environment? Like, we see how Vision Pro lets you set up screens, right? We'd need those screens to be visible for everyone who also wears his own Vision Pro. And then you could add privacy rules to certain screens/objects which would be really cool, lol.

But so far, all headsets are singleplayer by nature, right?

I disagree. People dont mind carrying stuff that much. Gameboy was popular because kids could easily carry it around. Students and woman have bags they can shove their phones in. A headset will need a hell of a value proposition. Even regular glasses are something people would prefer not to wear let alone a big heavy obstruction hanging from your face.
I mean people are like wow I have tik tok and IG and my reicpes pinned in front of my face OMG life is changed when you can just look down at your phone for 2 seconds.
AR/VR wont ever be mainstream until its basically a contact lense. Untill then little tricks like you can have your Tik tok feed 2 millimeters from your face isnt going to convince grandma she needs an apple pro.

Dwight Schrute walking a tiny Metal Gear through the city streets was not something I was expecting to see today.

I can see this having its uses, but I know it's just going to end up a vehicle for corporate advertisers to sell more targeted ads based of what you looked at and what's in the background of your view.

YouTube and Spotify said they would not make a an app to standup to Apple because of their market rules.

YouTube has already changed their mind. The creator of beat saber, the biggest VR app has stated this is a legitimate game changer.

Wild times we living in. I will hold off until version 2 or 3.

Warning: This is a meaningless anecdote and is not predictive of the success or failure of the Vision Pro or other AR/VR products.

I was at our local mall today and passed by the Apple Store. It was completely packed, except around the single table that had two Vision Pros. At first I thought the table was roped off, but that didn't appear to be the case. In the crowded store, that one table seemed to be repelling customers.

Probably the most animated and human I've ever seen him act.

While not the most compelling argument against Apple's device, given who it's coming from. The most important factors will be the pricing of said device and Meta have Apple beaten handily in that area.

Hopefully this competition breeds some exciting innovations in the VR/AR space!

I want one now. Anyone want to gift a poor beaver $4000. I'm willing to pay you back in ultra-rare tricentennial collectors edition Stouffers tokens.
