Bloated Banderas.

Yeah, Joe talks a bit about that and tries to understand the 10/10s, him and Skill Up both think the Prey Mooncrash DLC did the same concept better... from the same studio.
I think he is both right, and ignoring the very real racial bias in so many of these reviewers.

I don't think the two main characters being black was the only reason for those high and perfect scores, but I'm certain it made a lot of people think it was more important than the games flaws.

That's a decent list. 100% agree on death loop.

It gets repetitive very quickly. The controls are wonky and story is shit. The AI is hella dumb

And he's right on Battlefield…. That shit deserves to number one.

They should have just remake BF3 and that would have been enough but the vehicle drop spam made it soo much worst

Kinda split on putting Diablo here. The launch connectivity issues were inexcusable incompetence after what happened last time with Diablo 3, but the remaster itself is nearly perfect. Those issues cleared up pretty quickly for me but I guess I can understand if he really did have people fly cross country for a Lan night that never happened.

CoD: Vanguard feels a little heavy handed. In the middle he quickly says the multi-player is solid before moving on. I don't own the game but that's literally the one and only metric for a successful CoD, everything else is superfluous beyond that. It just felt like game reviewer going through the motions.

Pretty solid list. Most were highly anticipated and super disappointing for those who did eagerly wait for them. Fortunately the only one on the list I was considering was B4B due to my love of L4D. And that was a tenuous lust at best as I had supreme doubts on TR putting out an ace after that amount of time since L4D2.

Battlefield is def the biggest disappointment. EA spent the money (pulled a lot of friends from dozens of disparate teams to help) and needed the win. So many reviews just eviscerated this game and I heard nothing but negativity from people who bought. I think people stop chasing COD and realize its not a good game. That might free them enough to make something worth playing.

I'm watching it.

10. Deathloop
9. Destruction All-Stars
8. The Medium
7. Diablo II Resurrected
6. Call of Duty: Vanguard
5. Halo Infinite Multiplayer
4. Scavengers and SpatialOS Technology
3. Back 4 Blood
2. Outriders
1. Battlefield 2042

Commentary is more interesting than the choices, tho
I played Vanguard, he isn't wrong. Feeling REALLY GOOD about being vindicated on Back 4 Blood. That game is a shadow of what could have been, but Turtle Rock just isn't a quality developer outside the Valve umbrella without Valve's resources.

why was he disappointed by cod? that was a expected fail i'm kinda intrigued why infinite made the list though

Outriders is a decent game. I never had any crashing on console. It's nothing special but shouldn't even be close to being on a worst games list. I know it's his thing, but the overreaction to glitches and crashes is unwatchable.

CoD multiplayer has been enough for the fans of it every year for a decade, hence the sales, I'd rather hear a critic's take on the campaign since nothing anyone says or does can stop the MP being popular.

I was a bit disappointed with Age of Empires IV when trying it out on gamepass.

Had some really interesting ideas like the civilisations being very different in mechanics and play, but not enough to get me to instantly buy it like hearing about Age of Empires 2 DE being a complete visual and then some revamp. The campaigns being documentaries (cool but removes warmth) compared to the living stories of the prior games, the very limited skirmish modes, ect.

Maybe with solid patches and a good expansion or two I'll take another look.

I can definitely say I've read more than a few articles saying how "great" it was to "finally" play as an Asian protagonist in not-Prey 2017, so I wouldn't be surprised if race played some role in it.

Of course, the same reviewers ignore the fact that the original Prey had a Cherokee protagonist, but the difference between Tommy and Morgan Yu from not-Prey is that Tommy actually talked and had a character.

What was wrong with death loop? I have it on my list to play soon

The main thing is the concept was done better by Arkane with Prey: Mooncrash and that wasn't a full priced game but is totally more rewarding. Beyond that is the terrible enemy AI and how boring and repetitive it is, not to mention way too easy because of said AI. Going further Joe just didn't care for the aesthetic it was going for (I don't either).

I didn't like the aesthetic, precisely because I genuinely do like the 60's and the media from back then, which Deathloop apes and uses for inspiration, but isn't authentic to.

Its very much a modern tastes 60's throwback reimagining of that era, rather than actually having the same cool looks and design styles.

it's free to play tho
it doesn't quite work on linux for whatever reason. And i'm more interested in other games atm anyways i got a backlog of wii games and other steam games like dark souls to play. itd be fun to eventually play it once they sort out the anti cheat nonsense

Simulacrum's can be tough to make work well.

Fallout does this, and somehow succeeds with the fifties Americana, though they kind of go a overboard with the delineated timelines.

Aye, and Fallout is actually a good example of 'inspired by' done right in my eyes, because it's not just making sci fi made to look like the 50's, it's both using the real world 50's aesthetics and what they thought the future would look like in the 50's.

Deathloop looks like modern stuff given a 60's style makeover.
