Saw this posted in my subs, and this games visuals look stellar. It's netease though, so who knows how it will turn out and how much live service crap will plague it.

I don't have much in the way of expectations to begin with, given that anything released on PC on partnership with Nvidia is going to be far beyond my computer's processing abilities, so I don't care that much. But given that it's also being developed for Android and iOS, I would downgrade those expectations even further.

Also, just abandoning realism is not enough. How did that work out for Saints Row? I don't mean the latest garbage, I mean the fourth one.

GTA's open world wasn't just 'realistic', it was grounded. Grounding, in some ways. You could be doing absurd insanity on missions and activities, but the world itself made an attempt at being a layer of normality between the crazy, and I think that's where certain other open-world games failed. Relatively speaking, of course.

I think the "grounded" trend is ending. It was cool as a counter to the excesses of fantasy / un-realism in media and storytelling in the past, but I think today, or in the very near future, people are going to want more Adam West and less Christopher Nolan. Everyday life has become too "grounding".

If their new Marvel Rivals game is any indication, it'll probably be fine. Apprently that game has zero FOMO shit in it, like I read all the characters are unlocked right out the gate, the battle pass isn't temporary and you can even swap the free currency to the premium one, which is a first from what I know.

In general, I've recently found that the eastern Temporary Service games tend to be much much better "experiences" and way more generous than their western counterparts, yes even the gachas. It's like they stuck close to the "game has to be fun to be successful" notion that all the AAA slop devs in the west have lost long ago.

If one has to play these dogass games, at least pick the Asian ones, I guess. Case in point, the new Destiny mobile game looks 10 times more fun than the real Destiny.

Chinese devs putting Japanese songs and dubbing in their anime-style game trailers always rubs me the wrong way.

It looks interesting.

Besides GTA, it had some Spider-Man and InFamous in there as well.
