Thread: Activision going all in on DEI. 3 year DEI road map

Phil is getting closer to his dream

This is easy for me. I'm trying to remember the last Activision game I bought... Oh yeah, it was a CoD game I got out of bargain bin at WalMart, the one set in WWII. Not the old WWII CoD, the new WWII CoD. It required like a gajillion gigs of space on my hard drive and an account and.... I popped the disc out and never touched it again.

Activision of all companies going this hard is another proof that none of these creeps mean any word they say when it comes to this topic. Now imagine if the Activision toxic workspace expose didn't come out, a more gullible person would look at this DEI crap and think "wow, they must really care about their work ethics".

The good thing about this is that nothing of value is lost anyways.

I see this rolling one of two ways with both leading to the same outcome...

Business will go poorly for Activision and this plan will be tore up within 2 years...

Activision's name will become synonymous with irrelevance within 3 years...

In either case, I expect Activision will become largely irrelevant and known for shoveling out expensive software nobody cares about anymore. That pipeline of software will be one of slowly diminishing expense as the company's financial constraints slowly choke it to the point of axing all of its unnecessary headcount.

AAA publishers are a dying thing. I was in denial of this a couple of years ago, but I'm now certain that indies are where it's at.

We never should have let women in our ranks. Men and women simply see the world differently. They want to be everyone's friend and hold hands. Men want to win, get shit done and have fun.

Nothing makes me want to puke more than listening to a woman creative talk about game design. They do not get it.

Had we not torn down that initial wall, none of this DEI bullshit would have happened.

90% of women are emotionally and intellectually retarded.

Re; Women.

That's going too far and giving the people who push DEI all the ammunition they need to dismiss any legitimate critism IMO.

Would you feel the same about all men being lumped into one group?

MS will kill Activision. By the time they are done devaluing all their games and screwing up they will have shut down 90% of activisons studios. It will be a husk of itself when they will sell it off for scraps to exit the videogame business.

I would find it so easy to walk a middle ground and not offend or upset anyone. Honestly with the amount of multi million pound/dollar companies that fuck up, I feel like I must have a real world, high valued skill on my hands lol.

The problem will eventually be the same with indies, most are already playing within the newer/modern rules simply because it's so embedded in our culture now. They also tend to escape scrutiny because they don't reach a larger audience, if they were to benefit from AAA's fall with more attention/success the attack dogs that keep the big studios in line will turn their sights towards them.

The culture needs to change, people need to be aware that they're being misled. It's tough to get that message across when we're constantly being hammered with captivating narratives in the "news."

That is how the professional world is SUPPOSE to work. But in the early 2000's politics oozed its way into the workplace. And it was that very tolerance that allowed it to permeate into the toxic stink it has become.

I would love to go back to a world where people were hired and promoted based on ability and accomplishment.

You just need someone in charge motivated to make long term profits and not afraid to say no when things aren't commercially appropriate. That's not to say never compromise or be flexible, but definitely have the determination to draw a line in the sand at times.

Maximum longterm revenue by treating your customers well in the short term.

So the first time someone approaches you with a proposal to swap out your next big game's protagonist with a POC or an obvious LGBTQ+ person, what would you do?

Unless you consider what became of Alan Wake 2 to be that middle ground...

Oh, and you can't say no without also explaining why not.

I'd say what's the creative reasoning for it and does it make sense with the story we are trying to tell.

Nothing would get dismissed or accepted out of hand.

The creative reasoning is representation of under-represented populations in creative narratives in entertainment and inclusivity. They push back asserting that the swap does nothing to hurt the current storyboard and provides the writing team with countless more creative avenues with the story.

EDIT: But it does in fact hurt the story... we know it does hurt the story as evidenced by all the other stories it has already hurt.

Check the other other thread. SBI extorts companies for multi millions or else they sic the press and twitter bots on them.

It's a massive self perpetuating grift. It basically millions of dollars and 100s of employees extorting major corps to pay out using fake DEI bs like CELEBRATING BLACK PEOPLE to make millions. Acti probably hired an army of blue hairs and Strang black WAMANZ to put all this shit together under the threat of IGN articles and twitter rumors about how racist they are.

It's mafia tactics.

It's good to see game companies are finally starting to realize how important diversity and equity is and incorporate it into their games. Long overdue.

Well Take Two had that full panel about DEI. I take it everyone is also not going to be buying GTA 6 either?

If so I applaud people sticking by their morales. Otherwise it's easy to boycot something you have no interest in. :)

How about just making good games? Why complicate this shit

They'll argue that's exactly what they are doing, because by their definition, the degree to which something is "good" is precisely how "diverse" it is.

Except that women, as a group, are objectively retarded. We need to grill them with their own bullshit. We hear about toxic masculinity all the time, how about toxic femininity?

That's just the other end of the coin from the one your fighting against.

The truth as with anything lies somewhere in the middle from both sides. I get it people gave an inch and here we are today, but being on either end of the pollical spectrum isnt going to result in any meaningful resolution, just two camps at war with each other.

No, they're really fucking retarded. Really.

Like, seriously, I love my wife. But I'd never let her run things, either at home or at somewhere else. And I'd never vote for her to be president, either. She's irrational and she's got all these fucking hormones flowing through her. All of them are and do to some degree or another.

A lot of indies are basically DEI poster kids, and it's bound to get worse with big companies investing in promoting indies.

Wonder when the platform bans get to be too detrimental and get reversed because of potential revenue loss.
