Thread: Say Something Nice About Disney Star Wars

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with Disney era Star Wars.

Unfortunately, the sequel trilogy is mediocre but I'll list some positives.

+ There's no more "gray area" canon. The new Expanded Universe is all Canon and some of the old Legends stuff is actually being used

+ The Mandalorian was decent. No, not great but still pretty good for a TV show

+ Jedi Fallen Order and Vader Immortal video games are good

+ High Republic is a cool idea in concept but then you have a fucking geode flying a ship. Still it's kind of cool they're branching into new areas

+ KOTOR and Old Republic may become canon so long as they don't fuck that up

I maintain this:

The prequels had a great story that was badly made.

The sequels had a bad story that was well made.

By well made I mean the acting, dialogue, and effects weren't as horrific as the prequels.

I actually didn't hate the sequels as much as everyone else. I blame Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson. I still can't believe they didn't have a skeleton plot in place and then give the directors creative freedom within that plot. I can't believe that moron still has her job after fumbling that as badly as she did.

7 was a good setup, parallelism (some would say copy of the original) with interesting g wrinkles here and there (namely Kyle being a bad guy seduced by the light as opposed to his grandfather)
8 was just a troll job from Rian on JJ which made 9 just a retcon of 8.

I wish the prequels have the look in aesthetic of the sequel trilogy. The only prequel I was really impressed by and I mean even at the time was revenge of the sith but even that could use more real sets and more practicals. I would also prefer lightsaber battles to be more like the sequel trilogy and less like a choreographed dance. If you took those two elements along with the better acting in the sequel trilogy and put them in the prequels the prequels would be pretty amazing. It would take a lot more than that to fix the sequels though.

The Mandalorian is the only consistently good thing about the disney star wars

Solo was ok, but barely ok. I actually thought young Han was ok

The Vader hallway scene is the best thing disney did

It should of ended after the first trilogy because in my mind those are the best out of the bunch, I have paid and watched most of the others but don't remember much TBH so that must count for something

Mandalorian is pretty good. The tech that powers the show is really impressive.

Who'd have guessed going into the whole Disney Star Wars era that Boba Fett would be the one legacy character that they WOULDNT totally fuck over?

Luke became a jaded bum

Han is a dead beat dad who gets killed off almost immediately

Leia did alright I guess but they squandered her in the movies

R2 and 3PO dont really do shit

Chewy is practically set dressing in the sequel trilogy

But Boba Fett? He survives the Sarlacc, shows up and kicks tons of ass, is redeemed from being a villain in the OT and gets his own spin off show.

It helps that they got Temuera Morrison to play Boba. Guy's a good actor and was woefully underused in Attack of the Clones back in 2002 when he played Jango Fett. The three episodes of The Mandalorian which feature him are already the most awesome Boba Fett's ever been in onscreen Star Wars.

Yeah my only gripe is that they modeled his character and look after Blondie so they should have kept him as a gunslinger. I was pretty surprised when they turned him into a melee combat monster.

You can thank Morrison for that change. During the making of season 2 he stated he wanted Boba Fett to have some melee combat scenes that incorporated Maori stick fighting (hence the gaffi stick).

Besides, they already have a gunslinging Mandalorian with Din Djarin. I guess they wanted emphasize the difference between him and Boba Fett.

I like the prequels too.

Revenge of the Sith was very good and I even liked the other two.

They were Star Wars but had a different, more sleek look and a wide diversity of worlds.
I rewatched the prequel trilogy a few months ago and found that the only really annoying part was the middle of Attack of the Clones where it went from investigating an assassination to Anakin and Padme traversing through a CGI robot factory for reasons. It reminded me of the car factory scene in Minority report, I don't know which movie did it first.

I will say there was one scene in the whole trilogy that I genuinely liked: the one near the beginning of Last Jedi where Kylo is getting his ass chewed out by Snoke. Where Snoke tells him he's just a little crybaby retard larping as Vader with a dumber mask and he should go kill himself or something along those lines.

Ehhhhh gotta disagree there the lightsaber battles in the prequels are fun to watch, while Daisy and Adam just look like they're constantly clubbing baby seals.

It's a little more brutal and savage in the sequel trilogy more like a real lightsaber battle closer to the OT ones for sure. The prequels are just over choreographed and full of WTF moments especially in gif form. Honestly the amazing score does most the work for those lightsaber battles like without duel of the Fates everyone would see that that battle was kind of gay.

To add to both of your comments, I accept that somehow Boba Fett survived the Sarlaac Pit. I suspect this will be addressed in his spin off show. As a result, I am also ok with them fleshing out his skills from just a gunslinger, which is a big part of his identity and I don't think has been diminished from what we saw with his fight scenes in the Mandalorian. The gaffi stick is a neat token of his resourcefulness, having exited the Sarlaac Pit and making due without his armor/weapons on Tatooine as he wanders; Now a Ronin.

This also adds to the backstory on the Tusken Raiders, which I really enjoyed what Favreau gave us in this series. They are more than just bodies to stack and have a defined culture that mirrors any native tribe, specifically Indians from old Westerns, as well as exploring the dominion they have over the expanses of Tattooine. A tribe of the Tusken Raiders most likely nursed Boba Fett back to health, or at least interacted with him in some fashion in that he adopted their fighting stick and possibly their martial art or, blending his fighting skills with theirs to make whatever we were watching as he crunched the plasti-steel helms and chestplates of those Storm Troopers.

I know they are going to more than likely blow it on his series, as there is no way Favereau will be heading up all of these new spin offs. I hope he keeps the Mandalorian story close or at least has the power to direct this and possibly Boba Fett's series, but I suspect he is going to be doing stuff with an Executive title only and letting others run the show. Which may be good in some instances as we saw with the Mandalorian. We can only hope actual fans are allowed to use their talents to explore these stories and not activist post-modern knuckleheads, looking to subvert the IP any more than it already has been subverted.

Lucas nonsense, notwithstanding.

The Sequel trilogy showed a lot of people how truly awful Hollywood and Disney have become.

Sequel trilogy also showed aspiring storytellers what not to do.

The Mandolorian is good, but it's still only a bandaid that should never have been needed.

Rogue One's grim dark ending destroyed any chance of spinoffs, sequel's, prequels, toys and interest in seeing the survivors navigate the events of the Galactic Civil War (a war so vast in a galaxy you could have multiple shows, seasons and still never stumble across the events of the original trilogy.)

I judge by actions, not just words. Kotor remake has at least one writer who despises Kotor and Star Wars fans. No bueno.

Fallen Order was pretty decent, but Disney and EA will probably never give players the ability to make actual meaningful choices in their sandbox unlike a RPG like Kotor.

Topps Star Wars Chrome Galaxy trading cards are nice. Disney probably didn't have much to do with it but they still licensed it to Topps.

There actually is going to be a Rogue One spinoff series. It's already in development.

Rumor is we're going to see a big return to Coruscant again in this series too.

It's great at putting me to sleep.
You know I see people say this all the time as an insult but as someone who doesn't get to sleep without some kind of noise going on I tend to go to sleep to some of my favorite movies. Yes the movie Alien absolutely puts me to sleep what a great movie with amazing atmosphere, what a tranquil score totally memorable. You might be thinking hey eventually that movie gets loud and you're right but it's at least 40 minutes into the run time before anything loud happens and even then they tend to be quick though I have had the occasion where I woke up during one of the scarier sequences and since you're so out of it when you wake up it's actually magnified and intensity and terror for me. Doesn't happen too often but that is definitely happened to me

...Is the ride actually better than the sequels?
I am fine with 7 but 8 and 9 are horrible so definitely better. For the record I like Mandalorian, Rogue One, Clone Wars, and Visions.
The millenium falcon ride is fun but only if you are the pilot or laughing at someone you know piloting.
Oh also the food and alcohol at Galaxy's Edge is amazing.

Force awakens was kind of decent, even if some stuff was dumb and needed more explanations. Which we never got.
So, fuck that movie as well.

Rogue One was a great Star Wars movie, imo.
The Vader hallway scene is the best thing disney did
..if you are a eleven years old boy who is into cringey fan fiction.

Solo was okay, imo.

Mandalorian is most of the time quite great. Filoni gets Star Wars and what the people want to see in a Star Wars story. They have the heart in the right place in this show, so I can forgive them a lot of logical inconsistencies.

Also, ...
seeing Luke again was what I wanted since I left the cinema after seeing RotJ back in 1983. And not that not wasted bum drinking alien tit milk. Fuck you Rian Jonson.

Calls Rogue One a great movie then says you're an 11-year-old into cringy fanfiction if you thought it's most entertaining scene was the best thing in the Disney Star wars universe, wtf, don't tell me you thought Rogue one was great because of that sterling character "development" lol

Darth Vader's hallway scene sent chills down my spine. That has nothing to do with being cringey or 11, it has all to do with growing up with Vader as the penultimate evil in the saga and seeing him wreck the rebels.

Worst part of Rogue One was CGI Leia.
