The PC path tracing patch will be released shortly after launch according to Nvidia. And looks like it'll perform better than the implementation in Indiana Jones. Here's what Nvidia writes:

Path tracing takes the quality of ray-traced lighting to the next level, reflecting additional detail and game elements on surfaces. NVIDIA Spatial Hash Radiance Cache (SHaRC) technology is leveraged to performantly compute path-traced light, while NVIDIA Shader Execution Reordering further accelerates performance on GeForce RTX GPUs.

Wow, when you see them side by side you see just how far ahead Dark Ages is. Not just in the physics but lighting and everything else. It's a legit generational leap.

Hey hey hey slow down there. Always keep in mind that ray tracing is just a gimmick and only there for marketing bullet points.

Xbox 360 visuals look good enough why would you cut your frame rate in half! I keep hearing people claiming that RT is the future but when will that future actually arrive?

Bro Ill take 30fps if it means we get advanced lighting like ray and path tracing all day errday

I would happily skip out on ray tracing IF they could just deliver 60fps locked with overall great graphics. But at least the options are out there, and many games allow you to choose settings.

Good thing that RT creates overall great graphics and this game runs at 60fps. No need to skip it, we just need to make it the norm and enjoy.

Welcome to the Ray Tracing Supremacy Movement my friend!

Up to chapter 6 now and i'm enjoying this more than Eternal. Impressed this game practically has zero load times so even when you die a lot it's really no big deal you are back in action instantly

But why don't you wait a few days for the path tracing.

Don't you want to see the light? (Correctly rendered)

any word from anyone who loved the first one but didn't like Eternal?

I loved 2016 and disliked Eternal and Im really enjoying this. It's more grounded in combat like 2016 but it's also different in that there is a huge focus on the shield and parrying. Once you get a good flow of it it's extremely satisfying taking out groups with your shield and parrying their attacks.

People who say shit like this really should go back and replay 2016. It's really not as distinct from Eternal as people like to pretend.

If anything, 2016 is far more punishing.

Far more punishing and far more fun because I could play my own way. Eternal became a chore to play towards the end

How can you not play Eternal your own way?

Eternal is literally just 2016 with more gameplay mechanics available to you.

I dont want to have to work out a rock papor sciccors puzzle every few seconds. Pick your favorite guns and shoot everything until they are dead. Just like in the original games

Just like in Eternal?

You can beat the whole game with just your 3 fav guns. You don't even have to engage with the majority of weapon mods to be successful. What is the rock paper scissors puzzle?

I am legit confused when people say shit like this. In fact, in 2016 if you wanted to deal with the super heavy demons you HAD to make better use of your hole arsenal, bc you wouldnt be doing enough damage to deal with them quickly enough not to get overwhelmed.

Sorry guys, but I didn't enjoy Eternal as much as I wanted too. It was just too over complicated with the gameplay systems and the jumpy movement everywhere that it just wasn't very fun. I also like the athestics and demon designs of 2016 more. 2016 was way more my jam and The Dark Ages feels closer to 2016 to me but is still its own distinct game.

I totally get the difference between the two and they are different games, but this notion that Eternal punished you and you had to play it a certain way is simply not true.

I agree on the visual design. While DA is far more impressive from a pure engine and fidelity stand point, I like the look of Eternal more.

So far I fucking love the game. Played for about 4 hours, and enjoyed pretty much all of it. Playing on Nightmare with the game speed on max with a small parry window and it feels like I'm playing a fucking bullet hell game lmfao.

For all the complaints people make about Eternal forcing you to play a certain way, this game practically requires you engage in the parry system. It's an interesting rhythm you can get going. The power scaling as you play feels pretty good too. Demons that were difficult for your first few hours become lightweights once you get your hands on the nail gun and the ssg.

I will say I don't like how I can't bind the combat shotgun and the SSG to separate buttons and I have to double tap to switch like back in DOOM 3. I fucking absolutely love the aesthetic. DOOMguy's never armor is just perfection, and I love how King Novik is so clearly inspired by Arnold's Conan movies. There's even a painting of him in one of the buildings that looks just like the shot of Conan on the throne from the films.

If I wasn't so tired I'd be playing through the rest of the night.

EDIT: Oh and I just about busted a nut at home freaking smooth and stutter free the game is. It runs like a dream. I'm playing on Ultra Nightmare settings, 1440p DLSS balanced and my frames have maintained in the 100-120 fps range for almost my whole experience and I hard notice any drops. I'm on a 4070 super mind you, not exactly cutting edge but this game looks AMAZING on these massive levels with tons of enemies on screen. I don't know how they fucking did it but they did it.

Only 30k players on Steam now that it launched. High price made people lose interest and pushed most of the remaining ones towards GamePass. I hope the PS5 sales will be strong. There'll be tiny sales on Xbox and the rest is just subscription revenue.

Wow it flopped twice as hard as AC Shadows.

There'll likely be a peak over the weekend but this doesn't look too good. Difficult to compare this to Shadows because being on GamePass cuts more into the sales than being on Ubi+ overall.

Also, Doom is more PC centric than AC Shadows, which tilts strongly towards PlayStation 5 like we've seen with the sales split. I don't feel like Dark Ages will outperform Clair Obscur, which is also on GamePass, but most weren't that aware of it while everyone knows Doom is there.

GamePass destroys the value of games. At least outside of the PlayStation universe I guess.
