Revealed to us by our sources and confirmed by Microsoft earlier today, the firm is increasing the prices of its Xbox consoles, accessories, and "later this year" during the holiday season, games as well — as the industry grapples with increasing costs.

The new price increases are as follows, which includes hardware, accessories, and from the holiday season, games as well. At this time, Xbox Game Pass subscriptions are not going up.

Regions not listed above will also see price increases, which will naturally vary by currency and retailer.

With games hitting a maximum of $80 later in the year, Microsoft sources confirmed to me that, games will still be priced on a scale to reflect their scope, as is the case today. Smaller games could still come in at $50 or less, for example, while AAA big-budget titles like a new Call of Duty are doubtlessly going to hit that maximum price tier.

Xbox games will also be $80 now

Sony will probably follow shortly soon

How could Nintendo do this !!!

Look Nintendo has a hot product they could take the risk.
MS has a console no one wants. They are at the squeeze as much out of a rock phase of the business plan now.

Likely word came down to bring the hardware price to break-even after tariffs were taken into account. Subsidized hardware is a thing of the past unfortunately.

Now when it comes to hiking game prices the only thing that I'll cough up $80 for is Elder Scrolls 6, and the next mainline Zelda, I have such a mountain of shame in my backlog that I can wait any of these fuckers out.

Aaaaaand this just keeps pushing me closer to jumping on the PC bandwagon. At this point, MS has Game Pass and that's about it. Fortunately for them, there seems to be enough chuckleheads that pop a chub over it to keep them going.

Just stupid-ass decisions by this company. I just don't get it.

Xbox has been releasing various decent games recently and now they decide to increase their prices. They just don't want to succeed. :cautious:

Microsoft should just sell off their gaming division and focus on AI and data centres. As a third party Xbox games would do pretty well.

Replace company with species and you'll have an easier time understanding it.

We all knew the gaming industry was pushing us towards an all-digital service and the cost of living, entertainment included, was going to continue rising. Our governments and corporate giants practically spelled it out for us over the last decade.

I know I'm not paying $80 for COD, but the COD fiends will. I'm just looking forward to seeing what games will cost $80. They went insane with that dumb Activision gamble and now all the shit we never wanted them to touch is gonna be more expensive. Am I paying $86 after tax for the new DOOM game? I am not.

Sony has been easing their prices even before Nintendo. But Nintendo seem to get the biggest blowback! Even the PSN increases blowback was just gone within a week or two.

Now Xbox increase prices. But since Xbox isn't doing well this blowback will likely disappear quicker.

The $729 for the 2TB Series X is especially crazy.

So you're in the world of wanting to spend $700 on a console, why would you ever buy a basic ass Series X with a bigger drive instead of a PS5 Pro? All of those xbox games are going to be on the Pro and will run the best there.

So the 33+ million Xbox Series consoles out there were free?

33 million is not a success for a company that has spent literally billions of dollars on it's gaming division only to end up in last place again. Also, don't know where you are getting that number. Most recent reports I can find say 30 million. Considering the XB1 sold close to 60 million, halving their sales is not a success story.

I'm expecting PS5 Pro to go up to $800-900 shortly after this announcement

The company that could make a statement and challenge Sony by offering cheaper games and consoles decides that they want to do the same as everyone else and dramatically raise prices. This is all the fault of the same mega corporations that insisted that we need games to take teams of thousands and multiple years of development time to create something worth the frankly ridiculous asking price.

I don't think the Xbox brand is long for this world, completely mismanaged top to bottom with no focus on delivering experiences people want and instead pushing out games like Redfall, a reminder why chasing trends is never good, and South of Midnight, which the less I say about the better.

So many amazing studios fall under their banner that it's sort of sickening to see the lack of output from their major IPs. This industry needs to refocus and get its priorities in order because 80 dollar games are just not sustainable and push gaming into a luxury category where people will then only buy perhaps one or two games a year. Don't be shocked to see a vast decline in sales of both software and hardware over the course of the next 3 years.

Pro price increase is coming. Also, most Xbox games are not on PS. And millions have existing digital libraries from Xbox 360, Xbox One, that they want to carry forward.

Is there evidence that Sony intends to raise prices as well? Or just conjecture because everyone else is doing it?

It's obvious MS is doing it because of the tariffs I doubt Sony is going to eat the costs rather than pass it down to the consumers. $80 games for sure is coming now that MS and Nintendo are doing it too

Is it tariffs? They raised the price everywhere.

So as of now, there is no evidence that it's happening. We're all just guessing it's happening because it seems so obvious.

I doubt MS is raising prices $100+ just for funzies. Sony already raised prices in Europe it's only a matter of time now they will in the US too
