Welcome to the Finals of the 2nd Hostile Face/Off competition, where DPAD votes for the best video game of the 21st Century.

Starting with 158 games, we are now down to the final 3.

RE2 Remake for me.

But this is not a great face-off, RE bros will be split while Halos will all vote for Halo. The two games with the most votes should go ahead to a 1v1 face-off.

RE 4 easily

There would be no RE 2 remake without RE 4 (which is BETTER than every RE remake we've had recently including the RE 4 remake) and Halo stopped being relevant after the first two games.

I blame all of this on Hostile 18 for not keeping the 2nd round to a number close to 64 or 32 which would have allowed for a nice transition to the final 8,4 then 2. 😭

While it is a bit of an unusual situation, people can work together to change their votes to push one of the RE games to victory.

There are no losers at this stage. We are just voting for the order of the Top 3.

That dude went from a 4090 to a 3050, I'm not surprised he fucked up this one as well.

You missed my stealth edit! But yes. Also, he was in possession of a freaking 5090. And went for a 3050. Even posting a screenshot, coping, saying that it looks surprisingly good. Mental gymnastics to distract from the fact that he failed, as a basic human being.

He gave the 5090 to charity to make amends for the carbon footprint he produced during the 4090 coil whine fiasco.

I mean, there's maybe an argument for it being a "bad" Resident Evil but the shift that game took basically changed 3rd person action games forever. It's a superb game and one of the best paced I've ever played with great locations, a great cast of villains, powerful and functional weapons and a whole host of over the top nonsense. It's such an important game whilst also being a really fucking good one.

Two out of the three are remakes and one of the remakes is winning. Really wish remakes weren't allowed to avoid this boring outcome.

I can't believe how many remasters and remakes the Resident Evil series has. And how many different wallpaper designs there are for each game. 😓

Anyway, I've fixed the box art now. The version of Resident Evil 4 that has made it to the finals is the original from 2005.

To this day I do not understand what any of you see in RE4. Its a crime to my soul that the game is even listed here, but for some reason everyone just loves it.

Yeah.... I get it.

IMO it still ruined the RE franchise though. I don't see what it did better than becoming a Gears clone.

REVII for all its changes was closer to a real RE.

Except it predates and is an influence for the Gears of War franchise. Cliffy B has directly quoted it as an influence.

I can totally back you in regards for it not adhering or sticking close to the original formula of what makes Resident Evil "Resident Evil" but after going through 1-CV, a change was needed somewhere. It's only a matter of time before we get back to that original format and to some degree that's already started with the 2 and 3 remakes. I hope we see something more "classic" with 9.

My bad, my brain went to RE5. RE4 was just far too much a departure. They could have improved gameplay without completely losing the claustrophobic mobility/environment.

I think that's why I like it, even the opening section retains that tension of being boxed in from the sheer amount of enemies, limited ammo pool and building layout that whilst more open, still gives that sense of being cut off. Then there's the stuff in the sewers, the castle, the regenerator fight in tight corridors, the mines and Krauser fight, all have more open design, but the player is limited in their choice of routes to take and has to deal with overwhelming odds. It's masterfully done in my eyes and always keeps you on your toes.

RE2R is by far the best of the three. RE4 is a competent tps but not a survival horror game, and the story is every bit as dumb as Code Veronica (if not more). Halo 3 has a weaker campaign than CE and arguably 2, with much weaker multiplayer maps than Halo 2 and CoD4 (the superior console multiplayer fps from 07).

Thanks to everyone for joining in. It was an interesting competition. I would have thought more first party games would have made it to the top, but it seems that third party games dominated this competition.

I was thinking of doing a sexiest gaming character face off tournament, but I'm still thinking about what to call the actual tournament. :unsure:

After finishing this one up, I'll probably start getting the next tournament organised over the next few weeks.

Most underrated hidden gem type game.
I vote for Bandai-O on the DS or TVC on wii
