Thread: Switch 2 announced! (NatetheHate: Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced on Thursday, January 16)
Hype Thread
Console black friday pricing:

PS5 console (Standard Edition) — $549.99 (regularly $649.99)
PS5 console (Digital Edition) — $479.99 (regularly $579.99)
Nintendo Switch: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle – $399.99 (savings of $100)
Nintendo Switch OLED: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle – $449.99 (savings of $100)

Buuuut nintendo's not greedy, 😅

Those all look like $100 off to me, though.

The thing is that there are sales to be had on both platforms. Nintendo's games are in a special category, obviously, because those rarely go on sale for more than 10-20% off. Consequently, when I tire of their games I usually get top dollar resell or trade-in. I took my whole Wii U collection and bought a Switch, a pro controller, and 2-3 games brand new. I know I spent just under $200 of my own money, but doing that it felt like I got a lot free of charge. /shrug

They're selling it same price than launch price (7 years ago) and their games you're lucky if you can get 10-20$ off for them.

Go suck on nintendo's dick all you want, at least you wont have the lawyers coming after you (not another sign of pure greed at all)

Why would I wait 7 years to buy a console?

If the demand is there then the price stays high. Which is why the price stays high and they still sell loads.

Stuff goes on discount when demand is lower and the company selling the stuff wants to get what they can for that out of demand product.

Its nothing to do with supporting or defending Nintendo or whatever dumb narrative you are thinking up.

Its just common sense business practice.

"Our sales are dipping but we've got tons of unsold stock or our digital products need a boost so let's have a sale." Common sense.

"We are selling millions of this product year after year so no need to lower the price." Common sense.

I love the idea that you think Sony is just like "let's do something nice for all the people who never bought our console yet, give them 100 bucks off". That's dumb.

The thing is one of them is 7 years old and running off production. It shouldnt even STILL be 500$ lol

When did I say Sony wasnt greedy? I said Nintendo's the greediest but your nintendo boner went into full effect

Are you really trying to justify your Nintendo boner comparing an obsolete 7 years old console to a console that came out last year?

Yeah stop, it's embarassing.

It's not my fault if you can't understand basic business practices.

I'm explaining why things are they way they are. Not defending. Not supporting. Explaining.

Dude, PS5 is a great console. Don't take it so personally that Sony isn't the only player in the games industry.

The presence of the Switch 2 won't make your little PS5 shrivel up and shrink. It's going to be fine.

What's with all the boner talk anyway? Take that shit to ResetEra.

Again with the boners?
What the hell?

You know you've got issues when you can't have a discussion about game consoles without bringing dicks into the conversation.

Now, off to ignore.

But it is still $500 and people have explained why.

Do you seriously think that these big gaming corporations put stuff on sale because they aren't greedy?

Discounts are just another strategy to make more money.

I normally buy stuff on release date if I am interested in it, so sales are not a huge deal to me. Waiting months to save $20 isn't really worthwhile to me. A lot of Nintendo first party games sell throughout the entire consoles lifespan. If something is still selling it isn't going to get a deep discount. Their games also don't have movie budgets, so there's no rush to recoup tons of money in the first month.

If Horizon was selling at Mario Kart levels you bet Sony wouldn't be giving out big discounts. Most of their games cost tons to make and they have to start making that back sooner rather then later because the sales always sharply drop off quickly after release. Businesses exist to make money. Some companies need to drop price to keep the money coming in. They aren't doing it to be nice.

On the flip side, Nintendo first party games tend to retain a lot of value. They may not get a deep discount, but years later you can also resell them for a decent price. Most of my PS4/PS5/XB games resell for like $5 now.

"Greedy Nintendo" always makes me laugh too.

As if the other big names in the industry, Sony, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Warner Bros, Blizzard etc are a gamers best friend just making sure you are getting the best value for money.

Fucksakes guys all we need is a "Zelda and Mario games get an extra point or two from reviewers because it's Nintendo" for the Full House.

Exactly! Nintendo puts their first party games on sale all the time! Just pick a day and you will find a Mario or Zelda game on sale for atleast 75% off. /s

Remember all those Player's Choice games from the last 3 generations? Yeah, me neither. Nintendo is fuckin' greedier than most.

The problem is that too many consumers are stupid.

It's the consumers duty to GET THE BEST DEAL but instead we have consumers defending greedy corporations who could lower prices, but don't.

This in turn is why corporations feel comfortable being as greedy as they can. They won't need to defend their greed, they have consumers like you to do it for them.

Know your place, you are a consumer so you should start acting like one.

Now you've done it @Saruhashi, you blue haired shrieker you. How dare you have a different opinion than Mal!

Soon he's going to have no one left on the forum to talk to. He keeps ignoring anyone who disagrees with him 😂

Not at all, there's a lot of members I don't agree with. I just ignore people there's no point into having discussions with like in this example. Nintendo is the greediest = I don't think Sony is greedy or I care about Sony at all. I even fucking own a switch and will buy a switch 2 (especially at launch, since it'll probably end up moddable).

Guy is so obsessed at defending his corp that he completely ignores all the rest of the conversion, he's a tool

It's called supply and demand brody. For years the PS5 had no worthwhile games, and it's only slightly picking up now. Xbox has no games. And when they do, they're for full on fucking queers who approve of kids getting sex changes. Nintendo almost has a creative monopoly in the gaming sphere right now and they've been expanding their IPs and business kind of rapidly after the failure of the Wii U and the unprecedented success of the Nintendo Switch. This console is probably going to sell a healthy amount for three more years even after we get the Nintendo Switch 2

I'd of course like to pay less for games but the fact is, Nintendo doesn't have to lower their prices when they're competing against utter failures like Concord. Nintendo is the big leagues, Sony and Xbox can barely hit the wiffle ball off the tee these days... Why would they lower their prices when there is literally zero reason for them to do so at this time?

Would anyone be shocked if BC was just straight BC with no upgrades ? It wouldn't shock me if BC was some sort of Switch 1 lock mode with no upgrades. Even the CPU and GPU would be locked to Switch 1 level.

I just can't imagine Nintendo is going to leave money on the table by porting Switch 1 upgrade games. Like why would you buy BOTW remake when you can play your switch 1 version at 4k 60 FPS with a patch.

Tough call. It's probably free from a hardware perspective and is a strong selling point, but one they don't need as it really obsoletes the Switch. Catch me buying Bayonetta 3 again to make it run as good as 1+2 lol.

That said, an "enhanced" port of a game from last year seems a bridge too far. I could see Nintendo doing a $10-20 "patch plus" to many groans, but a full priced reissue? No way.

The Event Registration site keeps crashing one me. Which one of you is trying to take my spot??

I can see either way and DF made both arguments.
Let's not forget Zelda was cross gen on both Wii and Switch. So having big titles be cross gen isn't out of the norm for Nintendo.
And what we saw of MK didn't show anything next gen which could hint at it being cross gen.
IMO it can go either way but it wouldn't shock me if they wanted those 150 million or so Switch 1 players to be able to buy MK9 as well. But then again they would have launched it on OG and then just sold a MK9 deluxe version on Switch 2....

Botw was already announced and in development for along time for WiiU. Anyways WiiU had such a low install base they had no issues still releasing on WiiU. It's so low install base that Nintendo ported nearly all WiiU first party games.

Hold on, Wii U was a failure. Should have seen some Player's Choice games on that.

As one of the only DPAD members who bought a PS5 Pro, I'm feeling personally attacked by this post.

As a fellow PS5 Pro owner (and LOVING it), I stand in solidarity with you. Let us link arms and spit upon the unwashed and gay masses here. They are below us Grinchy. Lesser than.

Sony raised their console prices in some regions last couple years. PS5 pro being $700 or more in some regions is not greedy? Sony started the $70 game prices. Nintendo only has TotK at $70. If more you can correct me, I just don't remember.

There has been price drops/sales on Nintendo games. Nintendo also does the game vouchers 2 games for $100. 🤷‍♂️

You can expect all Nintendo first party games to be $70 next gen. Now, if I go out and break the law, do I get to say 'well I wasn't the first person to break that law'.

Those vouchers, you have to already be paying Nintendo a subscription fee so....

I do remember a lot games for low prices and especially around Switch launch. It's how I almost have all Nintendo first party physical games!

My issue is people acting like corporations are lowering prices as some form of kind service to the customer.

Lowering prices is a strategy to make more money. If sales of my product have stagnated then maybe I'll drop prices to get a few extra customers who were not interested in my product at full price.

Maybe if I put a load of currently less popular products on sale customers will see my shiny new products on the storefront and might buy those instead.

Some people are so wrapped up in the "console war" shit or so irrationally obsessed with "fanboys" that explaining a pretty old and very common marketing strategy somehow gets translated as defending Nintendo.

Why don't they lower prices? Because they keep selling loads of product at the current price. It's that simple.

Why would another company lower prices? Because they aren't selling enough product at the current price OR the discounted items are used to get customers eyes on other newer full price products.

I mean, people don't seriously think Black Friday deals are some kind of benevolent act from corporations to their customers, do they? It's just another money making strategy.

Sigh! Why try to defend a bad trend to raise prices and normalize subscriptions.

I'm just pointing out Nintendo is not the only company that has high prices and if patient enough you can find sales.

Not officially. Maybe stores just trying to get rid of their stock.
Those are still sales!! 🤷‍♂️

Shit, I don't even disagree as such.

Its just fucking weird that you explain to the guy why some shit always goes on sale and other shit always stays full price and he starts banging on about boners and sucking boners for some reason.

Every single one of these companies wants your money and they want as much as they can get.

One company maybe plans to do this with a live service game that always needs money to always buy new shit. This is done to maximise profit.

Another sells as many copies of their game as possible for 6 months then knocks 15 bucks off the price to try and catch the fence sitters who didn't want it at launch. Maybe in 2 years sell the whole game for just 10 bucks and get a few more people who will add it to their backlog and never play more than a few hours. This is done to maximise profit.

Another finds that their games are selling pretty consistently over time so they keep selling at full price. This is done to maximise profit.

Some people, it seems, want you to just nod along with their take when there's a pretty obvious explanation for why the industry runs like it does.

I think Nintendo got a taste of that easy money and now they want more.
They saw they could port these games on the cheap and cash in at full price.
And it's not just Nintedo BTW these remasters are everywhere.
There's something about this new Nintendo leadership. Like Nintendo was always greedy but this one feels more like they want to squeeze every last bit of juice.

Anyways I could be wrong but games being cross gen for the first years of a console isn't unheard of. Ps5 and series X only stopped having cross gen games not to long ago. It wouldn't come as any surprise that Nintendo would make cross gen games too if it did happen.

If you and others really believed in this "greediest" company stuff then you'd be constantly declaring the superiority of XBox GamePass since you can get loads of games for a relatively small subscription fee.

Yet most people would agree that an Xbox Series S with GamePass is not the best way to enjoy gaming in 2025.

Thats a shame we don't reward the least greedy gaming company, Microsoft, for their completely selfless pricing.

Me too. Are we able to apply for more than one slot?

I got in, why does this company do everything backwards. You have to select your time slot and then register for your chance to be invited. So there is a chance that you could have won an invite at a different time you could also have easily made, but no, you selected a different time and so did a lot of other people so fuck you.

It should be *register for invite *win invite * select time.

I don't agree. This different, Nintendo seems more cautious this time. Sticking to practically same looking console feels like a safe approach.

Nintendo now is only focusing on one console. They need to make Switch 2 as enticing to upgrade, making cross gen games would be a detriment to that.

Hold on, Wii U was a failure. Should have seen some Player's Choice games on that.
Why? The console in its totality was a failure. It was clear early on so why invest further into a product that was going nowhere with the targeted audience and all other gamers? They went back to the drawing board and gave us the Switch which succeeded and now they don't have to give discounts. I'll never understand why so many people can't grasp that people go into business to make money. Nobody wants to give people discounts bro, unless they absolutely have to. Quality cost money, and the Nintendo games are a hot commodity on the Nintendo Switch. Even on the Wii U, which wasn't that great, they had some great games but the hardware failed to interest and/or drew people away from buying. It doesn't make any sense to offer heavy discounts when you have quality products

As a fellow PS5 Pro owner (and LOVING it), I stand in solidarity with you. Let us link arms and spit upon the unwashed and gay masses here. They are below us Grinchy. Lesser than.

What games do you even play on the PS5? The first party output seems to be limited to The Last of Us 1/2, Spider-Man 2, Astro bot and Goodbye Volcano High. Third party games seem to be what people are actually playing.
