Don't forget about the junk dealer and his wife.

Fuck the pizza guys though, I gave up on that prepper the second time he ordered a pizza all the way from Port Knot.
Yeah the pizza guy can wait. Only part of the game that really annoys me so far.

Possible pizza guy and Episode 9 spoilers: I received an email from the little shit because I canceled his order when I realised how far he was from the delivery. Anyways, at the end of the email it says the sender is Higgs. Now I just supposedly killed him in Episode 9, but knowing Kojima I can totally expect some crazy twist within a side mission like that.

It's too bad the pizza mission fucking sucks, couldn't bring myself to deliver it when the story said to head back east.

Took the opportunity to start up my KCD replay. I'm just such a min-maxxer though. :giggle:

Father 'Go get me these things for me and get your ass back here pronto'
Me 'Sure, I'll get right on it (after I've gathered every herb in the village and boosted my stats and purse).

Tempting as the unlimited weight mod, I eschewed that and just stuck with unlimited saves, visible herbs and instant herb gathering for now.

I tried the unofficial port of the Ninja Gaiden trilogy to the SNES. Played through a few stages of NG II, my favorite one, and the new soundtrack is awesome.

The only complaint I've seen is that they didn't use the Japanese version for Ninja Gaiden III. That new Ninja Gaiden Ragebound game can't get here fast enough.

There are ports for other games too that I want to try. Mega Man 2, Mega Man 4, Punch Out, etc.

49 hours in and I'm at Episode 9. I'm already regretting playing too much of the game in such a short time, I can tell now that it's better if it's more a relaxed playthrough spanning a month or more, instead of dumping 3 or 4 (one time 8!) hours a day to finish it as soon as possible.

But I can't take my time either, I already have less than a week before my holiday is due and I'll be back to having almost no time to be playing a big game like this one. Sucks, but that's life.

Anyways the game itself is absolutely brilliant still, I keep thinking about it and planning for routes in my head while at work lol. Still no proper answers to my biggest questions yet but I think I'm getting to the part where things will start to make sense.

Finished it yesterday, at 59 hours playtime. What an experience.

I'll just focus my thoughts on the individual characters rather than the story as a whole since for 90% of the game that is what is focused on and isn't buried under complete mystery until the last 2 hours in the game.

Deadman: Although his character picked up in the later half of the game, I ultimately thought they didn't hit their goal set for him perfectly, I think Kojima tried his best to give us an Otacon here, but for half the time the only thing I think about when he's on display is Del Toro being awkward as hell and unhelpful. I think if they spent less time at the start making Deadman feel weird and more on his lack of friends and inability to make connections, I'd have liked him better, because at the end his charactrer does get so much better and I loved that hugging scene.

Fragile: same deal, at first I was disappointed especially as she's the first character we meet in the game. She gets better later on especially when Higgs comes to the picture, and her backstory with saving the city and losing her body in the process was great. I also liked that she's one of the few characters that isn't sold on the whole "build America" and all that crap and in fact only helps Sam to get a chance to get back at Higgs, felt like a good contrast to most characters being all patriotic and altruistic. Shame her dialogue is atrocious at times, we don't only get that stupid Fragile but not Fragile line twice, but also the lamest comeback in gaming history when she No u'd Higgs with the 'damaged goods" comment of his. Unfortunately this isn't it as the worst dialogue is yet to come.

Mama/Lockne: Mama's episode is when I first understood what Kojima was trying to do with these episode style theme here. We're going through these levels examining each character's case and in the process try to help them with their problems and 'reconnect'. Everything about Mama/Lockne's story is great, one of my favorite levels in the game. There's a lot of converstaion and story potential to be had with pregnancy and mothership and I appreciate Kojima for tackling the subject.

Amelie/Bridget: thinking about it now having finished the game, I like her better and I think her purpose was met well. I say this because while playing the game I wasn't as sold on her, the whole bit of she's captured but they allow her to do video calls felt so strange and weak, but I guess it's to make you suspicious of her from the very start, even the scene when Bridget dies between Sam's arms it's a clear giveaway they are in fact both the same person, but the player can't make that realization so early on knowing nothing about the story and its rules at that point. When they finally start revealing what she actually is is when her character picks up. Of course Kojima has to ruin it with absoltely the cringiest line I ever heared in recent memory, I honestly wish Nintendo sued the game or something to get that shit out, I get it's a meta joke on the "beat the bad guy, win the girl" trope, but it didn't have to be so excruciating. This is the price of allowing that maniac full creative freedom, for better or worse.

Heartman: just like Mama, I really liked his story segement. The scene when he first died but was resurrected and pulled out of the Beach is among my favourites in the game, such a great visual. Honestly wish we stayed in his quarters longer, especially as he's the only character where his theories turn out to be correct and don't mislead and confuse the player like everyone else. Unlike Deadman,I didn't feel the celebrity fatigue with his model too, despite the fact he's Nicolas Winding Refn. I didn't get 5 stars for him becuse I'm a dumbass but apprently he emails you later saying he stopped looking for his family and started seeing someone else, which is a nice ending to his characters especially since he's the only one we couldn't directly help reconnect like we did with all the other characters.

Higgs: he's simultaneously the coolest character and the most wasted potential at the same time. His design is one of my favoruites in gaming, just looks cool as fuck, gotta give it to Yoji Shinkawa here, a fuckload of games later, and his character designs are still as fresh as they were in MGS 1998, like Higgs looks even sicker in the DS2 trailer, how does Shinkawa keep one-upping himself every time? Higgs dialogue is actually a hit and not a miss too, I always thought Kojima is one of the few creators with 4th wall breaks that don't piss me off, but with Higgs it's on a different level, the meta sarcasm with his lines "aren't getting tired of the grind?" "isn't this want you wanted?" "No bullshit, just some good old fashioned boss fight" mocking the players who are used to just kill and get high scores in games, he even spoils the ending outright to your face in his first apprearance when he says "The girl, she's an EE" which most players myself included totally missed this. This portyal is enhanced even further by the outstanding performance of Troy Baker, which in my opinion is his best performace to date and it's not even close, he brings so much life and energy to the character, it's the perfect match. Love or hate the actor, but there is a good reason why he's in all games, he's just that damn good.
So what's so dissapointing about the character after all that praise? his story in general. Like, beyond all that cool presentation and sick fights, he's a shallow and one dimensional edge lord, we learn nearly nothing of him by playing the story missions, and even his pizza side missions don't open up the crux of his backstory until you beat him in the following episode, which at that point I was already disappointed with the character and the lore for him came all too late, I don't know why kojima insists on giving essential backstories for his villains after you beat them. Still haven't read all his Interview entries but I can tell it would've helped his character a lot more, especially during his final fight, where you get the feeling it's raw and personal, but you don't even know anything about the damn guy, so it falls apart with it just being a cool spectacle with no story backbone.

Clifford Unger: unlike Higgs, he's both cool looking and his story doesn't suck, in fact he has the best one out of all the characters in my opinion. Again with the character design, you can't help but just spam the screenshot button every time he and his skeleton squad make an entrance. And I absolutely loved the way his character was handled, from the great twist that all the flashback's you've been seeing are Sam's and not BB's, to the moment he stopped fighting when he realised his son is alive and well. Even though they spell it out in the final hour in the game when they show all the flashbacks as they happen back to back, the prior episode when you beat him for the last time was a dead giveaway for me that the BB was Sam, I mean that was a father-son hug if I ever saw one. I also love how all the characters thought he's fighting the way he is because he's too angry to die and wants revenge, while in fact he only wanted to save and see his son. Mads Mikkelsen definitely deserved his best acting award for this role, which is saying a lot with a game packing with S-tiers actors, especially with the acting of the next character.

Die-hardman: I liked the tiwst of your handler turning out to be on the antoginst side all along, even though the game doesn't really stick to this and I thought the buildup and the conspiracy Deadman and Heartman were suspecting wasn't as good in my opinion. Tommie Earl Jenkins steals the show in his only scene with the mask off, it almost feels like a waste having such talent covered behind a mask for most of the game lol, and his story hits even harder when you later on realise why he broke down in front of you asking for forgiveness, he basically fucked Sam's entire family up, even if it wasn't really up to him, he still felt guilty about it, and it further hits when you start connecting the dots and realise why he got so jumped when Cliff showed up in Amelie's beach.

In general I really loved the final scenes and the merging of storylines between the characters Die-Hardman, Cliff, Sam and Bridget. Probably the strongest storyline in the game as the other characters are more isloated cases and don't converge like the ones I just mentioned.

Sam and Lou: is there a better duo? Sam's journey and growth was another highlight of the game, even though I don't think they gave Norman Reedus justice, I mean, in arguably the most important scene for Sam, where he addresses all our friends before heading to Amelie's beach, the camera wasn't even showing his performance as it was from his back. I know Norman Reedus can act so I thought that was a bit dissapointing. For Lou, one of my favourite moments in the game is when she protected Sam from Higgs' bullets with the Ordadek, and that cute angry face, lol. Even though I was aware of her survival, the "one last delivery" still hit so hard, despite the cargo being the lightest yet, and the route having no BT's, no Timefall, no MULEs or terrorists, it was the hardest delivery in the whole game, especially coupled with that music, which this game has no shortage of excellent ones. I like that the one thing all people agree on when it comes to Kojima, is that the bastard has excellent taste in tunes.

In classic Kojima fashion, the story felt like it was going nowhere until the last 2 to 3 hours where he masterfully brings everything together. Of crouse, while I loved my time in this game, it wasn't perfect, far from it, and even though I appreciate having a no-constraints Kojima, deep down I do wish someone could tell him to settle down sometimes, but like I said, this is the price to pay to get such a unique experience not just in gaming but entertainment in general. That DS movie is probably gonna suck because that's not what the game is about, many people think his games are better as movies but they couldn't be further from the truth. I checked and apparently the game has 7 hours worth of cutscenes, putting that next to my near 60 hours playtime, and considering I had to finish the game in a hurry and would've otherwise had many more hours on it, his games couldn't have been more game-y games. I want to talk more about the gameplay, but my fingers are already tired writing all this shit so I'll stop now lol.

I can't wait for 2, knowing Kojima and his opinion on sequels, I'm ready to get my expectations subverted (in the good way) and see what he's having in store for us.

Lastly, this image below from DS2 makes me so damn happy, I couldn't stop smiling when I first saw it.

DS: Had to ditch my Cicada since I'll be hauling stuff up the snowy mountains for a while.

Let me know what you think of the preppers in that region. I didn't like them personality-wise despite their importance in other areas, so I didn't bother to 5-star any of them, except for 3. I'm keeping things vague as to not spoil anything for your journey.

Playing that Ubisoft Avatar game. FANTASTIC graphics and it's basically Far Cry with an Avatar skin. It's a totally serviceable game. Except. Every fucking human character is written in that over excited, sperg, spaz, zoomer douche way. "Oh hey! Oh, did I just say hey, I meant Hi, I mean, Hello. Does it smell like pickles in here? I looooove pickles, mmmm I miss pickles. So anyway....". It's fucking GRATING to speak to humans.

Let me know which ones of those are worth playing. As much as I love these games, I always find they get old for me quickly, so I'd rather pick and play the best levels.

Original expansions (The Reckoning and Ground Zero) are quite meh. Not as good as Q1 expansions. They follow the formula of Quake II but new additions aren't that interesting (all new weapons suck and new enemies are annoying) and pacing isn't great. There are a lot of situations where you can die instantly so you need to savescum. Call of the Machime have more enemies but its wider arena like levels make it easier to defeat them. The Reckoning have some new environments like caves with Stroggos critters and moon base, but Ground Zero seems to have nothing new except turrets everywhere. These two are lowest rated Quake games for a reason.

Quake 64 is pretty fun. Sort of like a demake. Small levels with cute pixelated textures. It can be finished in an hour. There's nothing new about it but it was kind of interesting. Music sucks though, just some boring noises.

Call of the Machine is cool. It's basically 6 mini campaigns. It reuses some enemies and weapons from other expansions and, unfortunately, also reuses Q64 "music" sometimes. Some levels are really fresh and fun. Others are just okay. They are quite different from each other aesthetically and gameplay wise. There's some cool Quake 1 fan service too. I think it's the best expansion.

DS: Went lethal for the first time. Wiped out a terrorist camp and snagged all the materials there along with a memory chip. Dropped 14 or so bodies to the incinerator. Ended up building three segments of the road as well on the way.

This game is crack, dude. Gimme a like.

Playing Witcher 3 o the Steam Deck. It's very slow to start but it's getting good.

Didn't you just get a deck? How you liking it? Disregard if I confused you with another member.

I'm so glad you went there and actually killed some people. It's wild how a simple kill has real consequences…. as a voidout will leave a permanent crater on your map. Your typical Metal Gear game might punish killing with a lower rank or missing out on a certain emblem, but killing in DS has tangible, lore-consistent consequences. And it ties into the theme of the game as the act of burning body will increase chiral density, which in turn gives you incentive to return there and harvest crystals.

I love it. In DS2 I hope Kojima gives us the option to redeem MULEs or mercenaries or Higgs troopers instead of killing them

No doubt. I've been this far without doing any kills and figured I'd just go for it.

Little anxiety making sure I found every corpse though. Heh

I sure did. I really like it -- the screen is beautiful (I bought the OLED) and the controls are nicely laid out. The battery is a little meh, but I just today found out that suspending play will eat the battery whereas exiting the game it isn't running in the background while sleeping. It's nice being able to tinker with settings and it's amazing to play some of these games with the level of fidelity it has. I've been buying shit like an idiot; I have only had it since the 14th and I have 34 games on it -- never spent a cent on Steam prior to then lol. I've found that even games that are tagged as only "playable" instead of "Deck Verified" still usually perform almost flawlessly, and it's amazing just how many games are available for it. It's still new, but I say it was worth every penny at this point; I'm super pleased with it.

Funny thing is the Deck is best in class in both areas. I don't think any of the other PC handhelds have half as good battery, and they definitely don't have even a remotely close Suspend function.

Went lethal for the first time.

You're crazy lol. I accidentally blew a MULE's head off one time because I didn't realise I fabricated the regular AR instead of the non-lethal one... immediately reloaded the save. I don't care about whatever time was lost, this is a non lethal run.

Good to hear. It's literally my main console these days.

Now playing Advance Wars: Days of Ruin on DSi XL.

This is the final Advance Wars game. They rebooted it slightly with new post apocalyptic setting and aesthetic, but story is still stupid as hell. But the game is great. They added some new unit types like flares and anti-tanks, that seems to mix things up a bit. Campaign has optional challenge missions now. Some of them are quite tough, don't know if I'll be finishing them all.

I've been ill all through Christmas so I put my play through of Stellar Blade on hold.

I did attempt a different game tho. I tried Little Hope after enjoying Man of Medan a few years ago.

Little Hope has a slightly slower pace through the first half of the story but does pick up for the 2nd half. Overall I definitely enjoyed it. The story wraps up with an interesting conclusion.

I will probably try the next installment sooner rather than later after enjoying Little Hope.

This is my favorite one! The power creep got out of hand in Dual Strike. The challenge missions are really good:) Story is trash, but it's fun to get out of the Saturday Morning Cartoon into teenage "edge" haha. Plays great on the XL with stylus controls.

Plugging away at KCD. I did what I consider a perfect start in Skalitz, in terms of building what skills I could as well as gathering as many items and Grochen as I could either trading herbs or stealing from houses without doing crazy stuff like choking out the villagers and guards as that just is a bit too far for me (although entirely possible). Copied my save to a separate folder, so in the event anyone wants a copy to save themselves a good few hours, let me know. It is right before you give the nails to Theresa and all hell breaks loose. I stashed all the loot in Henri's chest in the house, because you can pick all of that up when you return to Skalitz, just before you dig the grave outside. You'll be overburdened to hell, but at least all of your loot will make it to Rattay.

As for how I've progressed since, I've been taking it in a slow methodical manner, and going very much down the stealth route. Albeit I have progressed the main storyline I haven't gone hunting with Hans yet, as I'm more interested in attending the local missions first and building up my reputation with Rattay as a whole. Combat wise I'm sticking with sword and board presently although I think I might change out to a longsword soon as the shortsword isn't great. I've whittled down 2 Bandit Camps so far and that's largely been through stealth kills and some cheeky archery (not wearing a helmet? How about an arrow in the face Mr Bandit). I should get myself a horse as the travelling back overburdened to the tits is painful on foot, but I'm kind of enjoying the scenery and just exploring.

My steelbook edition copy of Monster Hunter Wilds is paid off with amazon gift cards I got from this points bonus nonsense from work. Also grabbed some other goodies.

I know not everyone cares about spending $75+ on a single game, but it hurts my penny-saving heart when I do it. So it's extra satisfying that 2 months from now, a copy will arrive on my porch that I didn't really even pay for 💪

Loaded Control Ultimate Edition back up to go through the Alan Wake DLC and get as many upgrades before finishing the side bosses like esseJ (not sure how to tackle this one since I keep getting crushed in the third form) and ending the Foundation story arc.

Remedy is at their narrative best in this game. Wish they wouldn't get too far up their own butts in an attempt to be movie makers on their releases, when Control has a good blend of action/adventure, ok Combat scenarios, and an interesting enough world building by making a X-Files/Twilight Zone Metroidvania.

Might start Breath of the Wild, which I have never played before, since I recently got a Switch.

In the time since I last posted I have stopped playing Yakuza 0. Not really my kind of game, although I did enjoy the story and characters a lot... Just not enough to push through the gameplay.

I have replayed, and beaten, Pikmin 1 and started 2. Love those little dudes like you wouldn't believe. It was very fun to go back and replay. Got all 30 parts in 27 days, and beat every boss. Only lost roughly 500 pikmin, 100 of which were on the final boss.

And I have reached the final boss in Breath of the Wild. I don't particularly like this game if I'm being honest. I have a lot of issues with it. I want to beat Ganon and close the door on it.

The next game for the game club has been selected and it's Killer 7. So that''ll be interesting!

Finished up Trigger Witch. Fun game, I guess worth checking out if you like Link to the Past and twin stick shooters. Pretty quick too, beat it (platinum trophy too) in about 9.5 hours. Worth the $10 I bought it for.

Started up Ys X again and I was a bit worried I'd forget the combat/controls etc... But I jumped back in pretty seamlessly. I picked a good part to pause at, right before a major dungeon/boss fight. So it wasn't like I had no idea where to go or had to remember what to do. Excited to maybe beat this before I head to Mexico in a month.

Also playing Antonblast and it's amazing. Have taken down a few bosses and beat a handful of levels. It's nice to play a Wario-esque game again because Nintendo don't want to make one. Probably a good thing, I don't think Nintendo could top this game.

Bro that is kinda the standard price for many new released triple a games now.

Bro that is kinda the standard price for many new released triple a games now.

Yeah, it has been for this whole gen. Some people accept that, and I wait for sales usually. And that happens fast as hell. They basically just cost-average this shit where they know how many people will spend $70 plus tax in the launch window versus how many are waiting for it to be less. And those sales happen within a couple months at this point.

So I personally do not like spending that much on a single game anymore.
