Fuckers. I need to sell my launch PS5 and they're dropping the used value on me.

Going aggressive for this Christmas season I see.

Might this move actually be Concord related? I mean, they did forecasts and financial goals, gotta reach those somehow and Concord blew a huge hole into their financials.

And yeah, this puts Xbox under even more pressure. Cheaper PS5 Amateur model for the mass market, new shiny Pro for the enthusiasts. With the PS5 Amateur pretty much matching the "premium" Series X in performance while being lower priced and having the game library advantage.

But missing a disc drive. It's a non-event for people who want physical media. Plus a huge reason to buy a Series X is the ability to go grab basically any Xbox game off your shelf and play it again. Sure, you can always buy the drive for the PS5, but good luck finding one at retail, because they shit that up too.

Fewer and fewer people care, and that argument about grabbing a game of the shelf and playing it is pretty much out the window with many games needing day 1 patches or not even having the full game on the disc.

Pretty much every game from the 360 or OG Xbox era has been plug and play. And what percentage would you estimate don't care?

Actually it's going the opposite direction.

In the launch year, the Disc version of the PS5 made up 70% of units sold, however as of three weeks ago, That has increased to 82% of all PS5's, and that doesn't include all the people buying the digital slim and the add on drive separately to take advantage of the more regular sales for the less popular digital version.

Let's also not forget that ever since the PS5Pro was announced the add on drive has been basically sold out everywhere. It's much harder to get a hold of than the PS5Pro itself.

Sure, only 30% of game sales are physical, but the people with disc consoles are still buying digital, all PS+ free games are included in that, and a lot of the smaller, cheaper indies or F2P games that sell very well are digital only.

Far from being irrelevant, the disc drive is more important than ever by customer demand, and it's absence is completely unwarranted.

Not doing it for me. When it hits $299 with the disc drive I'll have to give it a real look. I think I'd rather ask Santa for a Meta Quest 3S at this point.

Pretty good deal and makes the Pro look even more overpriced.
TBH for over 300$ less you get the same system with a bit less storage and a slightly lower FPS and Resolution. I don't think the extra bumb in those areas represents a 320$ difference. And consider that the pro has no disc drive or even stand unless you have money to burn the slim is the clear winner

I thought XsS was $199 and thought you were out of your mind. Actually not terrible pricing if you make that comparison (at the actual XsS price lol).

Yeah unlike the S compared to the X, the slim has the same performance as the normal PS5. So… pay an extra 50-80 or so and get an actually current-gen system instead of the gimped series S.

So on sale for $20 cheaper than the MSRP on launch day 4 years ago.

It's almost impressive how shitty these corpos are.

Yeah, I'd like to see the BOM first. Doubt they are making much profit with the console itself. Component prices are fucked, while in the past, they became cheaper over time, now they often get more expensive. Weird ass times.

I so miss the days of console unit prices going down over time. The PS1 and PS2 hit that $99 mark and everyone goes crazy. Now we think $379 is a deal.

The fact that the price looks like it's in the "3s" will definitely get a lot of people buying it though IMO. Even people who think 400 is too much will have their brain slightly fooled into thinking this isn't 400 bucks.
