Thread: Dragon Age: The Veilguard |OT| Sweet Dragon Inc.
That's the thing, it's not.

You've been made to believe that the game is one big DEI mess by grifters and those wishing to profit off of your anger.

I've played the game for several hours and haven't come across anything that I would be offended by.

Is the game as good as DA:O? No, it's not. Is it as good or better than DA:I? In my opinion, yes. The combat isn't for everyone, especially if you prefer DA:O's combat and I've said multiple times that the writing reminds me of something you'd find on the CW during the late 90's but other than that it's a solid 8/10 game.

Stop being led around by the nose by people who just want your angry youtube views.

You admit that the game "isn't for everyone" but also want to claim that anyone who doesn't like it is "being led around by the nose". You realise that you can't really have both things there? If it's "not for everyone" then some people won't like it regardless of grifters or whatever.

You admit that the game has CW level writing from the 90s but "other than that" it's a solid 8/10 game. So what if someone wanted to incorporate that CW level writing into their review of the game instead of ignoring it? By your own logic it's more like a 5 or 6 out of 10 game. Except it's only people being led by hate grifters who would think that.

Completely contradicting yourself here.

Other than the negative aspects of the game it's a 8/10 game? LOL. If you think it's not an 8/10 game you must be led around by the nose by angry youtubers! Or, you know, maybe I acknowledged the negative aspects of the game and give it a more nuanced review?

Yeah man, it's US.

Now we've separated the threads, would be interested in some impressions from people that have played the game (good and the bad). :)

Yeah dude, it's an 8/10 for me. What's so hard to understand about that?

You haven't even played the game and are forming your opinions on it based on grifters who are just as agenda-driven as the "woke" developers you claim to hate and you want to question my thoughts on the game? Get the fuck out of here.

As I said above, solid 8/10 for me.

Much to the chagrin of many on this board, I haven't encountered anything I'd find offensive, but I haven't gone looking for it either. So far the game hasn't beat me over the head with anything questionable. If we're comparing games I'd say that BG3 was much more in your face with its woke BS.

I've said before that the writing reminds me of a CW drama from the late 90s or early 2000s. That's probably a negative to some people, but I don't mind it. My character is a wiseass who selects the funny response 90% of the time so he fits right in.

The game plays buttery smooth on my 4090 at max detail and max ray tracing. It looks great too. I won't comment on character designs too much because I don't really like the character designs of any Western RPG. They all generally make me think "Something isn't quite right here" with Bethesda being the worst offender. That said, compared to standard Bethesda faces, these characters look great in my opinion.

Combat is fast and fluid. Definitely action combat and nothing like DA:O. So far my companions haven't done anything too stupid during combat. I will say that given how combat flows, it is awkward to pause the game and issue orders to companions. So far, I've mostly left them alone unless I need to set up a prime/detonate chain.

I could do without the prime/detonate aspect of combat, by the way. It feels clunky.

The game does seem to be linear, and I can understand why some people wouldn't like that, given previous Dragon Age games. I don't mind it as much here as I did with Final Fantasy 16.

No Denuvo, No EA Play launcher either.

If you want DA:O this isn't it, but then again neither were DA2 or DA:I. That said, I'd consider this an improvement on DA:I.

The linear thing gets me. Final Fantasy XVI, Tales of Arise were linear as hell, with little to no interesting cities. Huge disappointments exploring their worlds. Thought Devs would have learned better after the sheer backlash against Final Fantasy XIII for its linear nature.

inquisition for its flaws did have some nifty places, even if it absolutely fucked up with too many empty areas and by showing the Capital of Orlais as a tiny market courtyard.

I didn't mind Dragon Age Inquisition (never leave the Hinterlands!). I may check this out when it drops in price. It's just up against so much competition at the moment for my time.

Hopefully the story delivers for you.

Seems there are some ppl who do like the game. That's cool. Hope it goes well for yall

but I ain't supporting this DEI nonsense personally. From what I've seen. Graphically the game is good to look at. Combat looks like fun.

But the story and choice ability is fucking atrocious. When you have a story driven game.

But this is basically from what I've seen on YouTube. Haven't played the game and have no intention doing so

I think you're literally the most rational take that about 99% of this forum feels. We saw some batshit insane clips and nope'd the fuck out. Some folks going a little overboard on it.

I 'found' the game so I'm going to objectively try it out for all it is but I'm similarly like you. Everything I saw in short term was an instant turn off/no-buy. If a game is fun I'll play it but fully support the speak with your dollars mentality.

Inquisition was so goddamn mediocre and tedious that I wasn't expecting anything from Andromeda and low and behold, the only good thing about Andromeda was the combat.

My personal favourite parts of the game were the ability to add top surgery scars in the character creator. So good to see that representation in games. I almost wept with joy thinking about all the young people who got needless double mastectomy surgery who will now see themselves on screen.

Also the wonderful dialogue about misgendering that shows how calling someone "she" instead of "they" is such an awful thing to do that a plain apology just won't cover it. Amazingly well scripted and voice acted scene.

If you ignore all the bad things in the game completely then it's an easy 9/10 for me!

So tired of haters just being led around by grifters and talking trash about wonderful games. Don't you know these fools could cost EA and Bioware valuable dollars if the game doesn't sell well. Massive corporations have feelings too and we should be careful not to hurt those feelings.

Absolutely Marvelous

See? Top tier writing and acting performances! A truly phenomenal game.

Name another AAA title that has this level of writing talent.

I especially loved the fact that the game reminds us that while refusing to call someone by their name is OK it is definitely not OK to use the wrong pronouns. A very important lesson for all of us gamers.

Could this finally be the Citizen Kane of gaming?

Fuck off.

Seriously, Fuck off

@Mirabilis delete my account. I'm done here

You could... like talk about your experiences in the game if you want this thread to take a different direction. I'm not sure if anyone else is even playing it, but all I've seen you say about your experience with the game is that you're playing as a "Reaver," you think the action is fun and that there seems to be good build variety. You've got a lot more comments about the DEI stuff than you do about the gameplay or story, man.

Anyway, I'd certainly rather you stuck around!

Nobody wants you to leave @Ferdinand the Cowfish . I just wish people would come out of the closet and be honest about not being bothered about woke stuff as long as something is shiny enough. Would be a much more honorable position to argue from.

Trying to argue that this game isn't woke simply because we haven't played it is a dishonest fools errand when we all have eyes and can not only watch people playing it, we can see who made it and read their comments on how diverse and gay the game is. Having a controller in my hand and experiencing the "awesome" game play isn't going to suddenly make the game less woke. It only helps some swallow the whole package easier. You having a higher tolerance for these things doesn't change reality.

The problem is the script for the game appears to been outsourced to random kids on Reddit. Due to that I am not going to spend $70 to come to the conclusion that the game isn't for me. Normally I'd just move on. But I've seen tons of stuff for the game being shared around so we might as well have a good laugh. This game is probably the worst one out there trying to shove this type of stuff down our throat.

There are a lot of eyes on the game since it is from a popular franchise. The other problem is we appear to have two people here who bought the game. The number of people playing the game is much less than those of us checking in on the game to see how it turned out. That's the downside of a small community.

I play a lot of RPGs most here are not going to play, so I've mostly just realized and accepted due to the community size long discussions about them won't happen.

Sorry to see you go, but I feel it's the same for me as well. It's just not fun to have unchecked anti dei posts everywhere or the general direction we have gone with rage bait. But that's clearly what the largely majority want.

No need to delete my account, but I'll be stepping away too. Take care guys.

I'd prefer if you would decide to use the ignore feature, which is a useful tool to adjust your forum experience instead of leaving the community.

Why are people leaving lmao

The over reaction is insane

I think everyone's a bit over stimulated on the politics front because of the US elections.

Honestly, we could probably do with a general 'no politics, only technical analysis' catch all topic for controversial games like this, so those that don't give a damn about the attempted propaganda can actually discuss the gameplay and technical accomplishments of them without getting bogged down in culture war bickering.

I fucking hate it so much.

Can we have the 90s gaming back, please? I want to think about finding loot, grinding levels and the best load out instead of discussing the impact of freaking top surgery scars and misgendering on my enjoyment of a Dragon Age game. Can we blame the devs for pushing this divisive BS into games where it clearly doesn't fit, instead of the people who are getting annoyed by it?

I really hope that it'll all calm down after the election.

@Hostile_18 calm your British tits and come back, I need you when the coil whine on my 5090 hits.

People left over Dragon Age…. Kinda speaks for itself. They'll come back eventually because the only reason why they were raising a stink in the first place was for attention. Nothing posted on this forum has the ability to interrupt or spoil their play through of DAV, yet they left in a huff because they weren't allowed to curate conversation around this game in the way they wanted.

Th one that frustrates me most is seeing @Neil Young take a break, because he (rightly) knew where this kind of crybully attitude leads from experience on GAF.

Fucking Christ, guys. People are going to talk about the bullshit in this game, there is no way around it. Even GAF is mocking the shit out of it. The overwhelming majority of gamers don't want this shit. Leaving over this game is such a bitch move.

Curious about the sales numbers and the actual budget of this game. Being in development for like ten years, with all the bloat that has been added in recent years, surely it's way north of 100 million? When will they break even? The player counts are ok but the game isn't really setting the world on fire sales wise.

Agreed, if it was the only thing being talked about in a game like the SH2 remake, ya, that wouldn't be deserved, but for a game where the DNA of the said game is queer representation and modern sensibilities, it absolutely deserves to be talked about.

Also havent seen this as an issue in any OT for games that aren't Dustborn, Concord, or DA:V, games like Alan Wake 2 which contain DEI annoyances but were it's not core to the game are fine after the initial news that x character was race swapped.

What I'm saying is, don't leave over games that are deserving good or bad of this type of conversation, unless your issue is that you enjoy games that embrace modern sensibilities and are queer friendly and have modern day writing, which is fine if you do, than unfortunately ya, Dpad isn't a good forum for you to discuss your enjoyment of those things

IGN says that BioWare said DA:I sold 12 million copies, so any significant reduction compared to that would be disappointing

What really matters is, if they don't reach 12, what lesson do they learn from this?
