IGN says that BioWare said DA:I sold 12 million copies, so any significant reduction compared to that would be disappointing

What really matters is, if they don't reach 12, what lesson do they learn from this?
That we need more troons and Orange Man Bad analogues?

Doesn't seem like the game will have the legs of games like Witcher 3 or Baldurs Gate. If we treat it as more of a one off game, let's compare it to Space Marine 2.

Space Marine 2
Steam peak 225k
Units sold 4.5 million (all platforms) after around two months
It's a factor of 20

Veilguard
Steam peak 89k
Multiplied by 20 makes ~1.78 million copies sold

If we go with $60 sales price on average and subtract 30% for retail or digital platforms, that gives us a revenue of under 75 million for the first two months of sales. Which makes up for the bulk of a games revenue.

This is just ballpark spit balling. But it seems like it'll be a challenge to break even. And keep in mind that usually, you have to break even project costs wise and make enough money to cover for all the costs outside of the budget that's been allocated to that project to keep a company afloat.

Just breaking even is probably enough to kill BioWare. They deserve it after Andromeda/Anthem/Veilguard.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if shutting the studio down would make it more likely EA would farm out remasters/remakes of some of their old games.

Without the studio heads to get in the way by claiming ownership of them, there's a lot of beloved old games in their back catalogue that would likely make a tidy profit with just a resolution, texture and lighting upgrade.

Sorry, but we have already been through this. DA:V is a rip-roaring success and your hypothesising is laughable.

Sorry to see you go, but I feel it's the same for me as well. It's just not fun to have unchecked anti dei posts everywhere or the general direction we have gone with rage bait. But that's clearly what the largely majority want.

No need to delete my account, but I'll be stepping away too. Take care guys.

Dude, don't do that!

Seriously, 2 weeks from now the entire Dragon Age thread will just be fans who are actively playing it. You've got to admit that it's a special case situation. I mean it's a fantasy RPG that has dinner table discussions about non-binary nonsense. Of course it's gonna get shit on really hard, but I just can't imagine anyone continuing to care in the long term.

No one here wants to talk about VR and they shit on it at every single possible opportunity they can, despite the fact that they've never even tried VR. I don't let it get to me. It sucks that I have to find somewhere else where people are interested in that, but I wouldn't give up this den of cunts because of it.

Let They/Them go

Here's the text so you don't have to go to Neogaf

It's just retarded that they didn't think for a second how weird it is that Thedas all of the sudden has the exact same level of cultural understanding and sensitivity toward these insane emergent gender "issues" as the United States in 2024.

Just no care at all for the carefully crafted fantasy setting they inherited. If they clearly don't care, then why should the players?

It's the diary entries of a blue team politically tapped in reddit trans rather than a fantasy building up themes that touch the human soul.

@Mirabilis delete my account. I'm done here

I think everyone's a bit over stimulated on the politics front because of the US elections.

Honestly, we could probably do with a general 'no politics, only technical analysis' catch all topic for controversial games like this, so those that don't give a damn about the attempted propaganda can actually discuss the gameplay and technical accomplishments of them without getting bogged down in culture war bickering.

I concur with @Stilton Disco I think a lot of tension in the world at present is setting people on edge.

We would rather people not absent themselves from the forum over games of all things, and maybe others might choose to refrain on dunking on people simply for liking things they don't. It's no way to build community spirit but unfortunately is does seem to have become a habit for some people. It's entirely possible to agree to disagree on particular subjects. The necessity to hammer on people until they eventually call it quits is in no-ones interest.

I read some snippets from these entries to my wife earlier. For context, she's way further left than I am - a true "Live and let live" type. Her response was "Wait, they didn't even attempt to make those concepts lore appropriate? That's fucking retarded." It's like that shit was just ripped from Tumblr and thrown into the game without a second thought.

Politics aside, nobody in their right minds can tell me this is good writing, acting or good direction. Seriously, that's just hideous.

It's horrendous but apparently the writing, acting and directing is not part of "the actual game" so there you go.

Hello, fellow Dragon Age: The Shemaleguard enjoyers! Don't you think it's annoying how people want to critique the writing and acting in games? Those haters and CHUDS don't even know that ONLY gameplay matters! Unless it's CHUD games like TERF-supporting Hogwarts or racist Kingdom Come or transphobic Cyberpunk! Why don't THEY have the writing and directing that we want!? Why don't they have the main characters that we want and the voice actors that we want!?

Guys, come on, both sides are as bad as each other.

Don't leave mates. You're both great people in this small community here. Agree or not, in the end, it's your fun. Sure, many are vocal and volatile about recent trends in tuw industry. But that's par for the course.

DON'T GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~
Seriously things get heated over games having DEI, of course.

DPad, at least so far has not mass banned and purged every critic and conservative viewpoint like Neogaf and Spacebattles have. The fact we can even have these arguments at all is something to cherish.

I feel like there's no winning with the censorial people. They try to suggest "helpful" compromises but it just poisons the site.

In the DAV thread, the same users complaining about too much DEI talk in the OT made general remarks to the effect "DEI is all Dpad talks about". A quick glance at the first page in Gaming shows that to be untrue, but what happens when we split off all the DEI discussion into their own threads? What impression does that give to our totally-neutral observers?

Wouldn't splitting DEI talks (or other "not game related" talks only strengthen their impression that all Dpad talks about is DEI stuff? Instead of keeping these concerns contained in each game's thread, now we have to use a separate thread for that kind of discussion, multiplying the number of DEI threads and strengthening the impression that all we talk about is DEI.

I see no reason to adjust the site for people who left in a huff. I know full well that the mods have a delicate, imperfect balance to maintain as they run the site. But that doesn't mean that we have to implement ideas that don't work.

If you're left leaning and the game is woke you will just want to talk about the game no matter how nutty it is, if you're from centre to right you want to talk about how shit and incomprehensible the game is.

At the end of the day it's the devs bringing shit politics into a game and dividing the community. It is their responsibility but they choose to force hardcore leftist ideologies on everyone else which let's be honest any gamer with a brain hates.

It's not until this subsides through loss of sales that we can get back to any form of normality.

Having 2 threads to me makes no sense, it's either a discussion on the game or its not. Having a lollipops and rainbow thread for the game with few participants and loads of others in another thread disgruntled at the game just creates 2 separate echo chambers.

Played a couple hours today and enjoyed it for the most part. Writing is meh, characters seem kinda meh thus far as they give you 3 ugly female companions early on.

Combat is....fun I guess.....it's keeping me engaged. I made a shield tank dwarf and just walk around counter attacking everything.

Going to stick with it for a few hours more. It's definitely DEI-Centric as the only white person is the initial story is the elven bad guy. Virtually ever new character is some type of different raced person with zero white people other than dwarves and one elf thus far. It's just rather jarring as for me in particular who is bad at hearing accents on an asian elf trying to speak english.....so much unnecessary inclusion for just trying to get out some dialogue

It's nothing like Star Wars Outlaws in that it's not a completely broken product. Action is fun and engaging but after 20 years of similar experiences the best way I can describe this is a super generic fantasy action game with a lot of polish and runs well.
