Thread: The Emulation Thread
Well that's gross. I bought mine direct for about $400.

Yeah these mini PCs seems for some reason to be hella expensive in Europe for some reason. Probably because it's niche.

The closest on a cheap alternative is raspberry pi but I want something that can play at least up to PS2.

Pi5 seems to just being able to do that but it requires cooling.

N305 with 16gb +512gb SSD at US$300/€274 on Ali.

You can see the N300 (N305 is better) running PS2 at 1080p/60fps here:

I tried to make the one you suggested, theres not a 305, only i3-n305 es, which costs 335 euro on sale, 503 euro normally.

What am I doing wrong here?

This one is on sale at €216. It has a Ryzen R5 6600H in it.

Haven't seen it running a PS2 emu but here it is running Kirby Switch:

Edit: This video has PS2 and Wii U:

I might grab one at that price.

Hmmm, weird. It must be due to where you are. Shipping to Australia must be lower and they are including the shipping in the overall price.

That one is not eligable to be sent to my address.

OK. There are the Intel N97 systems, which are cheaper but seem to run PS2 fairly well, just not at 1080p.

You can also find them on Amazon. They might be cheaper for you on there.

Besides price, is there any reason to pick this over an series s? I believe that runs ps2 games flawlessly.

Also, theres retro pi5 which costs around the same as that machine. Is it better?

No. The Series S runs PS2 better. It's just the price difference plus you can use whatever controller you want.

Also for me I can plug my 12TB Hyperspin drive into a mini PC.

Yeah I know there's that huge benefit of using your own controller.

There seems to be some hardware that support any controller instead of the Xbox one though.

It's just it seems like being the cheapest most efficient way to play emulated games.

What's your budget for this?

I'm actually supposed to sell my Odin 2 Max because I bought a ROG Ally. I'm just slow to list it on Ebay.

What's people's opinion on RetroArch?

I always hear that everyone prefers their own standalone, and I've used duck station for many years.

But damn. Having it on my one kinda gets me digging it now. I really like that everything is in one place.

Got no budget now. Just lurking around for options in the future.

Turns out recent versions of mGBA have full gyro emulation support. I tried Yoshi Topsy Turvy on PC with Dualsense and when you tilt controller game reacts to it as it should. Only issue is that you need to tilt the screen too to enjoy the game. So I tried it on n3DS and it works perfectly there. WarioWare: Twisted and Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble should also be playable now.

I use it for everything pre PSX/N64 etc, so the 8/16bit stuff.

It's pretty good software. The best feature for me is the custom bezels, I shared screenshots over on the Currently Playing thread, I really like how they look.

The Bloodborne remaster project is being made possible by the amazing improvements made to the ShadPS4 PlayStation 4 emulator. In just a few months, the emulator went from being able to only boot the game to running it with improved resolution and performance, and even managing to run it on a dated machine sporting a GTX 960 with only 2 GB of VRAM. Emulation still isn't 100% perfect, but it definitely won't take long to finally be able to properly experience Bloodborne on PC, something that Sony still doesn't seem to be interested in offering.

RA is worth it for the shaders alone, never mind it being a convenient consolidated launcher for everything pre, say, PS2 era (after which you're probably better off with dedicated emulators).

Here's a YouTube playlist of various ones. You can find shaders to suit any taste.

Something worth looking into with RA is the run ahead (I forget the exact name). In short, it cuts down the input lag to be equal to original hardware, and you can really feel the difference.

I keep hearing people say pre PS2, but I find PS2, Wii, Sega Saturn etc works quite good.

RA is the only emulator that runs Sega chhds and plays them widescreen for me.

It's not that they don't work, it's more that the newer the system is the more complex the emulation is and the more frequent updates the emulator is going to get. RA's cores are usually ports from the original emulators and can be behind on releases. But you can amend my statement to pre-PS3 if you like, I only said PS2 because that is where it starts to get greyer.

You use something like EmuDeck which can set up the standalone emulators for you, and/or ES-DE which is a launcher that can launch all the retro games you have for whatever system, so you never have to open up seperate emulators to play your games, just this launcher.

To Celebrate 30 Years Of Saturn, A New Version Of Yaba Sanshiro Is Coming To Windows PCs

Will benefit from new features and fixes

Yaba Sanshiro, one of the leading Sega Saturn emulators, is getting an update on Windows-based computers, it has been revealed.

Developer devMiyax made the announcement on social media, stating that the release will coincide with the 30th birthday of Sega's 32-bit system.

This new Windows version will benefit from a raft of updates and bug fixes, it has been confirmed.

Also known as uoYabause, Yaba Sanshiro is one of the most popular Saturn emulators currently available.

Although the version on the Google Play store is listed as Yaba Sanshiro 2, it's not a sequel to the original emulator. The app was removed by Google in 2020 for apparently violating the company's Device and Network Abuse policy. It was assumed at the time that the emulator's cheat functionality was to blame. Yaba Sanshiro 2 is merely the same emulator but with the cheat functionality removed.

Sure it's not MiSTer FPGA or MiSTer FPGA vs emulation news but it's even better! Lindberg Loader Here:

Has anyone tried to use the rpcs3 emulator?

It is such a mess. I installed it and PS3 firmware, but I cannot get any game to work even though I got the key for it.

There are tons of videos to fix the problem, and everyones solution is to download their own malware to fix your problem.

I use it and I have zero issues in the few games I tried it with so far

It'd be better if you share more info on your issue so that we can help, things like what format is the game you're trying to run, is it a disc, a package file etc, since you're now moving into emulating a system that had more than one way of acquiring games, the emulator is naturally just as complex to use.
